- Wrangler Rubicon 2010 with lot of mods G2 axles, 3.8 liter tuned engine, foxx suspension, tires 325/60R20 nitto terra grappler AT was challenging my full stock touareg V8 2004, kumho AT 275/65/R17 tires, 4 attempts and 1 winner :) enjoy watching
The Touareg is the most underrated SUV in it's class. A classy car, built for anything.

You only need to view the old Top Gear were Jeremy pitted a CL65 AMG on tarmac versus a rugby team on grass, with studded boots. Circles of rubber offer incredibly small contact patches at normal tyre pressures.
A human in sneakers with regular sized feet would have a greater contact patch.

I’ve always loved the touareg since I was a child. I’d love to see a tug of war with the touareg and the hemi wrangler.
Results would be the same. The T out weighs the J. Jeeps are fine for taking care of themselves. Not idealistic for tug of wars against heavier competition. ;)

Germans are the best engineers and they use better materials than everyone. Surprised the jeep did not break. I had an 89 wrangler...JUNK. have had and still have VWs...not junk, awesome vehicles.
The Germans are some of the most complex engineered. But many of them have absolutely embarrassing reliability records BMW, VW Phaeton, many Mercedes’ in the past two decades are junk at around 100k miles worth a tiny fraction of their cost new.
The Touareg is known for its reliability… 😬
Those older model touaregs are bad ass if you can find one without electrical problems

Now I want a vw Touareg
I got a 2012 TDI in July 2020 after looking for months for a 2009-2010 TDI with Air Suspension. I gave up that difficult search and accepted that the air and center locking diff is more than I need and more than I'll want to repair later.
I love driving it. Every day I'm looking for opportunities to drive it more and in more challenging conditions.
I got a 2016 Vw Touareg 262 hp awesome 👍
Got a 2010 tdi with 38k miles just before the pandemic started. Now has 52k miles on it. Honestly with the tdi and the dieselgate warranty the cost of ownership is not bad. You may spend more on repairs (in my experience hasn’t been bad so far) but you’re probably saving $500-$1k/yr in gas compared to a similar 4x4. And the purchase price and depreciation is great. Obviously I was lucky mine went up in value from the pandemic but they’re already so inexpensive that the depreciation over the next 60-80k miles will be minimal. And the warranty covers the emission system, fuel system, computers, exhaust system, turbo and some engine components. Crazy value for something that wheels like almost as good as a 4runner and drives like a Cayenne.
Jeep on mud terrains and tourage on road tyres took down jeep had this whole tug of war on paved road Tourage would have eaten jeep alive.

He's lucky a V10 didn't show up. I'm always amazed at how easy it is pulling 3,5t and overtaking uphill at 100km/h

If it was so worthless why there are championships? It shows how well engine power is sent to the wheels and how well it is distributed so it can overcome the drag force that is created by other car or weight... so i think its a bit more than nothing ;)

When a car is designed, it is not designed to primarily win such contest, but rather to answer a users’ need, like offraoding, towing, etc. This wrangler for example, will beat this touareg on the sand, because wrangler was designed for that purpose. In the other hand, when coming to asphalt, the touareg is far better than the wrangler. So in my opinion, such contests where 2 car are pulling each other the opposite side is just for the show
@@LOCOTouareg what championships? There are NO such sanctioned competitions. It’s just a silly show for stupid people. Every single one of these tuaregs have blacked out windows. Why? Because they want to hide the fact that they are loaded with ballast well beyond their gross vehicle weight rating. These tuaregs end up in the junk pile afterwards. It’s the same exact trick used by Top Gear when they used a tuareg to pull the movie set prop made to look like a 747. It was just an empty shell, but it is considerably heavier than any street legal automobile. Back in the early 1970’s, Chevrolet did the same thing with a 2500 series pickup truck. But the ballast they used just brought it up to it’s legal gross vehicle weight rating. AND, they used an actual working 747 jet, which weighed several times what the movie set shell used for the tuareg weighed. So let’s not put too much into idiotic RUclips videos.
Oh, it’s just like the toyotas used to pull the space shuttle through Los Angeles. They went through three of them just pulling the shuttle across a 100 foot bridge. They kept popping axles and transmissions. It was all for show. And Toyota paid the Museum of Science and Industry a HUGE amount of money to be able to perform the stunt.

The Touareg V8 has a bigger engine with significantly more torque and weighs ~5300lbs, while the Wrangler (with the 3,8 V6) is lighter (~4300lbs) and has less torque. So no big surprise here, dont know what you wanted to demonstrate? You should try the same with the Wrangler 392.

Not exactly. If you will let your transmission slip and you keep pushing yes you could damage it, but if you apply constant torque without pushing aggressively you can be on the safe side:)

Had a touraeg as a work car and it was very powerful and very quick. Held the road really well and was very comfy but the engine went pop. They aren't very reliable and very expensive to fix.

The test is not fair, the Touareg has the worse tires! (no one other analog car has a chance against Touareg, Q7 or Porsche Cayenne, that's fact, you don't need to test it).

Kinda of unfair to the Touareg too because the anchor point for the rope of lower, so the rear end of it is being pulled up, and the Jeep's rear end is being pulled down giving it even more grip in the rear. Still, just superior grip due to far more advanced suspension.
Kind of unfair that the jeep is giving up about 1,000 pounds.

Nice car not knocking the vw but I want to see what it will do against a 4x4 DRW (dual rear wheel) 3500. Saw a video of one giving a Chevrolet 2500 SRW (single rear wheel) duramax truck heck. Thought the goobermint motors was gonna break. This jeep did ten times better against the vw than the 2500 did

There’s a tug-o-war between a Touareg V10 and a 6 liter diesel Duramax American truck. The Touareg won and the SRT is certainly not a match for the Duramax either.

Tuareg excels at power, as it’s mostly a highway SUV, wrangler has no chance against it.
Wrangler excels in offroad, put a Tuareg to climb rocks see what would happen lol.
The Touareg is a classy machine. I am not diminishing it. However, the Touareg weighs much more, making the competition not exactly fair.
I Googled the weight of a stock Wrangler Rubicon: 4,449 lbs. Maybe add 100 lbs for larger tires and a little for Fox shocks
The Touareg lists at 5086 to 5825 lbs. I imagine this large weight difference applies to engine selection. You stated you have the V-8 (and whatever else is upgraded for a V-8)
The ratio of 5800/4600 indicates your vehicle weighs ~26% more. I could like beat the Wrangler and the Touareg with my 8,000 lb 4wd pickup truck
If there is v10 diesel engine in that touareg it has 750 N M TORQUE , and this at only 2000 rpm , that is serious amount of power

That’s a good way to break a jeep
It’s a simple trick. The tuareg has blacked out windows. Just stuff it with bags of concrete past it’s vehicle weight rating, and it will out-pull the other vehicles. It’s the same trick that they used to tow the 747 shell (it wasn’t a real working aircraft, but a movie set made from a gutted 747). Seriously. It’s why these tuaregs always seem to be “sold” soon after these stunts. The reality is that they are not sold. They are junked.

the movie prop 747 still weighed 150 tons and the touareg stopped it with stock brakes as well :) tug of war is a simple equation of physics there is a great Engineering Explained video talking about the Cybertruck vs Ford tug of war and why tug is such a pointless exercise in "capability" but hell it's fucking fun and we all love a good show so whatever stop shitting on our parade lol or if you want we can meet up and my v10 tdi will pull what the fuck ever you bring and you can check my trunk for cement blocks first

Yeah, but let's take them actually off roading and see who wins. The Touareg is a road car with some snow capabilites and thats it. Doesn't have the clearance for anything else
thats cause you dont know anything about touareg, im not saying its more capable off roader, but its very capable and most people underestimate these cars, there is fantastic video touareg vs rubicon by TFL and watch it ;)
Also most people have no clue that this cars have proper Low range gear box with locking center and rear diffs, and some of the Touaregs are equipped with Air suspension that gives you 13” of ground clearance which is more than standard rubicon :) only downside of Touareg is that ist very heavy and that’s not a good thing for off roading
If it was a soft roader like you described it the jeep would of dragged the vw but the vw is a capable offroad vehicle

@@LOCOTouareg The Rubicon was designed for the Rubicon trail in America. The Touareg will not survive it. It is too soft underneath and does not have enough ground clearance or articulation to get over those rock gardens. The Jeep has solid axels, more ground clearance, front and rear diff locks, swaybar disconnect.... There really are no comparison when it comes to true off roading.
The Touareg is an amazing vehicle, but don't take away from what the Rubicon was built for. It is comparing apples to pears.
@@HercoVanDyk hi, there are few videos with Touareg on rubicon trail and it made it look easy :) also Touareg with factory air suspension has more ground clearance than any stock wrangler so if I were you I would not underestimate Touareg so much ;)

I am in the fortunate position to have extensively compared the two of them. Simply put, the Jeep goes where the Touareg does not. It's as simple as that.

Depends on the tires, it seems that the wrangler tires are not that good for grib almost looks like street tires to me, but to be honest this touareg years model is a legit off roader.

The motor in that Touareg is also much more powerful than the Jeep. It's really not a fair comparison. The Touareg was built for on road performance, with off road qualities. The Jeep was built for off road performance, with no on road qualities.
If we place a MotoGP champion in a Formula 1 car, he will lose. And vice-versa. These tests are really fun to watch, but doesn't really compare anything in the two cars.

VW is a lot heavier than jeep. Also has a much stronger engine however on the rough stuff the jeep would win, it's lighter, 3 locking diffs, designed for it etc.

The VW also has locking diffs. Even my base model has a center locking diff. He was in auto low. No diff lock. And still drug that jeep being fully locked

Actually this wrangler was modded heavily, axles, steel bumpers all round, winch, and huge wheels. Owner told me the weight was 2350 kg. So its not a huge difference in weight ;)
