It's actually easy to hack your Nintendo 3DS memes in a nutshell
Update from may 2024
They made a script that does basically half the thigs you needed to do before, it now takes 5 minutes set it up and then you wait for it to be done
LINK???
yoooo
Yo can you tell me where you found that?
We need the sauce where's the link ???
Sorry for the late response
whenever I post the link to the website, my comment is automatically deleted, so I'll just say the website's name begins with "3ds." and ends with ".guide", and the icon is green eyes on a black background
I remember in 2014 resenting how difficult it was to hack, and how little public information there was. Now it’s so easy, there’s memes about it.
Things like Sky3DS were the one of the few options back then and even then shit was expensive af
Didn't you need a very specific shovelware game to do it?
@@j0j0dartiste21 cube ninja?
Somehow I miss rxtools and arm9loaderhax
you could also do it with the youtube app if you were on a specific 3ds version (kicking myself like an idiot because i updated before i heard of the youtube exploit)
the only hard part is the anxiety in the back of your head that tells you'll randomly brick your 3ds
This.
I actually almost broke it. Good thing it was only the sd card.
Overexcited me, got too many games to be installed at once and when the space ran out mid installation, the sd card broke. Not even be able to be detected on anything
The only thing that stopped me from feeling that when I modded mine Last year was that only an absolute idiot could pull off bricking it on 2022
exactly , modded mine lastyear and that was the only thing that went through my mind lmao
My friend, you are more likely to brick your console trying to clean a button contact than to hack it. I'm saying this as a person who accidentally did exactly that...
true tho
The "hardest" part about hacking my 3ds isn't that hard, but rather the closest thing to being annoying. Inserting your SD card back and forth between console and device lol

@@Windermed how are you gonna use a homebrew app on a stock 3ds? 🤯
Especially when it’s a new 3DS and to access the as card you have to unscrew the back. Not hard but inconvenient when wanting to install new programs
Thank Jesus I have the new 2ds
I took a class on Operating Systems last semester and we had to do a presentation on any topic of our choosing so long as it has to do with an operating system. I chose the history of hacking the 3DS. After a long history and a considerable amount of technical detail, my final slide was this video
Another one of my favorite slides was highlighting different homebrew applications, where I wrote "FBI, allows you to install CIA files. No thats not a joke. Really."
share the presentation
@@Bergzbot OH THAT IS GREAT
What was the reaction of the class with all the explanation and stuff around 3DS hacking? Also did you hear the sad news about the latest firmware update that patched out some entrypoints?
@Adamillo no, I haven't heard about that, but thats very unfortunate. And everyone seemed to like the presentation. Making the presentation was mandatory, but presenting it was optional for extra credit. It was also the day of the final, so he cut us off after 5 minutes of presenting (cuz he needed to make sure we had enough time for the final and all). I was one of the four people to go. The bit about the price of Cubic Ninja rising and falling with its relevance to breaking into the system got a few smiles and maybe even a chuckle or two, but unfortunately I only got about halfway through the presentation before my time was up. The professor complimented how well my presentation was flowing, and said that I had a good rhythm
@@Bergzbot nice presentation, I enjoyed reading it

i did the exact same thing during science class in 8th grade lmao
The earliest days of 3DS modding were the hardest though, because it literally required a game only available in Japan.
Maan, I remember the Cube Ninja hacking, my older brother and I even bought that game to hack it, ah the memories.
i remember requiring a DS game from the eShop to be able to hack the Wii U, now all i need is the SD card
On some SPECIFIC models and updates all you had to do is scan a qr code

thank you so so much for your contributions. i hacked my little niece's ds for her to try out ctgp 7 and she loves it, its her favorite thing :)
1 day ago, wow
The feeling you get when your DS takes one more second than usual to boot up and you think you bricked it is the worst. Your entire life flashes before your very eyes in that single second.
My 3ds suffers from that a lot. Now i realizee that it takes a while to load all the content so im not scared now.
True, was looking in forums once and one article said "I modded my 3ds, why does it take longer to boot up now?" And got a little scared
The wii as well. Once I saw the system files are corrupted error. I yanked the chord out didn't play for weeks. When I opened it again it was completely fine.
The hardest part about hacking my 3DS is the fact that I don't have a 3DS

yeah! i remember i looked into hacking my 3ds YEARS ago and there were so many risks and if you didn't follow the 3ds hacking tutorial to a tee your 3ds would get bricked. imagine my surprise when i found out years later that you can hack your 3ds with your eyes closed!
I cooked my 2ds back in 2016 trying to cfw wouldn't play ds games after it happened
It was way easier to Homebrew though. QR codes, Music Hax, TubeHax all of those I used to hack the crap out of Pokemon Omega Ruby without ever installing CFW.
Disclaimer: It takes a couple of hours if you're very careful and scared that a wrong push might brick your system
Or if the guide you’re following is straight up missing a step and you also go and buy a bigger micro sd card.

I heard about that but never figured out how it worked. I miss when the Nintendo Wii allowed us to download DS demo games from the DS Download Service from the Nintendo Channel.
@@SuperGreenLuigi Nintendo Channel on Wii was so lit.
Ooooh that's why they patched it, not because of the hacked pokemon you could get from it
I remember doing it in 2021. Did they patch it? It was such an easy way to install games. I was dumbfounded as my switch refused to download from tinfoil so I had to download the game from the computer and install it manually, and a device that was a decade older could download with a qr code.

The hardest part of hacking my 3ds was realizing that it was already hacked
I've become the 3DS modding guy for my friends and family. Everyone who still has one of these consoles comes to me and I speedrun the hackerman magic.
To be perfectly honest, this whole thing started for me because I had a super old 3ds and bought a new 2ds xl right before they stopped production, purely because I wanted to preserve the dual screen game library from my childhood.
Video game preservation for DS systems works best on original hardware...and now I can play community ports of Amogus or emulate Playstation games on my new 2ds xl. That little thing is so fucking awesome.
I think due to the Switch being unhackable for the vast majority of users, they instead keep the 3ds modding community fresh and alive.
Watch in twenty something years it will be just has easy

Since you're havkerman for your friends, could I add you on discord and have some help?
@@slond_ Honestly, I don't think I'd be much help to you. The only reason I'm the one doing it, is because I have practical experience and all the tools already downloaded. I'm pretty fast at doing that myself, in person, but that doesn't help much when it's done remotely.
The 3DS Hacks Guide is always up to date, safe and really simple to follow. It answers questions much better than I could, so I'd suggest you google it, read through it and follow the steps. Shouldn't take more than an hour.
Like, I'm not very tech savvy, the guide is just *really* good.
If you run into any issues or if things are unclear, you can ask me about it and I'll try to help you as best as I can, okay?
@@phoenixdouchebag904 honestly, it's a gamble. At one point I think I saw something about the Switch OS running in its own sandbox, so unless there's a vulnerability on that (previous vulnerability was actually a hard chip error), I seriously doubt the Switch will get an alternative method besides soldering. Heard it called its securityis "perfect", which is a ballsy claim, but what do I know?
Also, rumors of a Switch 2 with like a 4050 inside are coming, so it may be best to get an early model to have access to all the broken hardware to exploit.
“That’s like… less than 15 minutes”
My computer: “Best I can do is 5 hours”
The “hardest” part is having a pc with an sd card reader
SD readers/adaptors are the easy part, the hardest is finding a 32GB card because higher than that won't work reliably.
@@ToastyMozart I can buy one at Dollar General.
You don't even technically need that, as you can access the SD card through Wi-Fi using the System app. Though it is incredibly slow.
@@ToastyMozartyou can convert 32+ GB sd cards to the Fat32 format using a website online
I was actually pretty lucky in that regard because my laptop had one, and my parents had a bunch of microSD adapters so it has been pretty accesible for me
I remember having to buy an R4 game cartridge and putting a magnet next to my 3ds to boot up a certain menu to mod it. Thank god it's alot easier now than it was then.
That’s actually the first way I modded my old 3ds. I got a n3dsxl and modded it the normal way and it was surprisingly easy to transfer literally everything and not have to set everything up and download everything again
Shit you don't have to do that? I want a simple way to hack mine but I can't find that... Any help is appreciated
@@radpunk5144Look up "3ds hack guide", follow the steps and that's it, you'll need a SD card (the bigger it's storage the better, like 32 or 64 gigs), and a pc/laptop with a card reader port, if you don't have that port, maybe buy a sd to usb adapter

@@pg13snipez amazing! Thank you for mentioning this! I've been wanting to put ds games on my 3ds , but REALLY don't have the time to do it manually. Thank you again!
That is the real downside of piracy: the paradox of choice. You have so many options you don't know what to play and the less limits there are the more overwhelmed you are.
Took me an hour but, it is surprisingly easy, and really puts the fun back in the console, especially since games cost so much now.
Although there always will be that small fear of bricking my 3ds when I open Super Smash Brothers...
thats not how it works.. it will never brick unless you download from a website with no info on it online or if you put your own software on it you made
@@theozziepotato True, it's just since the whole system always goes black for like 5 seconds when I close it, that's mainly why
@@SkyBlue12.5.01 That’s because smash bros runs the 3DS OS in a lower ram mode since it uses more ram than most games on old 3DS systems. The screen going black is the OS rebooting so it can go back to using 64mb of ram.
I feel like at least 500 of my 2000+ smash bros hours were solely spent on waiting for the game to boot up, in 2023 the closest thing you'll ever get to bricking your 3ds is updating it early and waiting for a new luma version to drop, and even then if you do brick a console is by being stupid like me disconnecting an sd card to usb adapter to my wii u and unplugging it while the installation screen freezed in a panic, poor wii u never booted back up again
@@Josuh Damn shame. But my Wii and Wii U eventually broke, too. Some thing with the disk reader on both of them. Real shame, too, because my computer can't run games with 3D elements, so TTYD is off the table for now...

Nintendo: "It's surprisingly easy to brick a hacked 3DS"
It seems like the only true obstacle is the fact that it's, y'know, legally dubious. Copyright law was always my least favorite law anyway
The hardest part of hacking my 3DS wasn’t the hacking itself. But the fact I had to go to the store and buy a larger SD card to hold the files on
More easy with a 2ds xl. The sd card slot can be accessed easily as it’s quite literally next to the game card slot
That’s why I got a 2dsxl instead of a n3ds even though the 3ds is prettier, so annoying to have to unscrew for the sd card
I had so much luck, everything went without a problem. When hacking my friend's 3DS, it was set to English so it didn't work, we had to set it to German. But for me everything went smoothly and after about 20 minutes I had a modded 3DS.
Well this didn’t age well

The hardest parking about hacking it would be to actually break it

I had genuinely so much fun hacking my 3ds for the first time
And this killed my sd card…
Man is gonna be marked by the Nintendo Death squad
Took me several tries due to my PC declaring the files corrupted seemingly at random even though the 3DS read them fine, preventing me from adding files to the SD card.
Imagine my embarrassment when I realised there was a workaround for that problem right under my nose in the form of FTPD. It really is that easy.
the hardest part for me was the 30 minutes i took to realise you can’t fully remove the screws

It's only "easy" for people who have either done it before or who already are into tech. The process has a kajillion steps which can be really confusing.
Just how easy it is, is overstated. As you said it's quite a few steps. But I don't feel like it involves too much technical skill, the 3ds hack website guide is so indepth and does not make any assumptions.
The guide tells you exactly what buttons to press, what files to put where, and it tells you when to do these things in order. The guide is possibly the best guide I've ever seen, the best thing you can do is turn off your brain and just do as it says until the process is complete.
