- We fished the Surfside jetty on the Texas gulf coast and filled the cooler with Spanish mackerel! The weather was beautiful and the fishing was awesome! After catching my limit of mackerel, I headed home, cleaned them up, and then made my favorite Spanish mackerel recipe, which is smoked fish dip. I hope y’all enjoy the catch, clean, and cook!

If you use wire for Spanish usually you catch like 1 for every 4 someone using flouro catches

1st comment. 😊 bro.. invest in some wire leaders. Walmart has them cheap. Look for the short ones with loop at top and clasp at bottom. Tie on a swivel snap to main line, and just clip on and go. Spanish got super sharp teeth. Never fish for spanish without wire
I just get the 3$ bag marlin wire, and haywire twist it up.
@@travisbrown3723 yes. It works too. But I have had issues with my braid getting tangled in the twist, and once the wire gets kinked from landing flopping fish it has to be replaced. Also I use spoons alot and if the wire gets a kink it snap right in half as soon as fish is on. Learned that from catching gar. So I prefer the braided wire #47 lb for spanish and kings,ect.
I have wire but when the waters clean I really don’t like to use it. Sure you don’t get cut, but it 100% lowers the amount of bites you get.

Surfside jetty
Hey buddy, just recently started watching your videos! I moved to Texas from Georgia and got into fishing recently. Spanish is definitely on my list now that they're coming out! Do you have any tips on what conditions to look for wind and weather wise or location? Surfside is a bit of a drive for me and Galveston is definitely closer.
Spanish prefer clear water. They will be in the surf and jetties all summer. If the water is green just look for bait and start fishing. U will probably wanna use a short wire leader or you will lose a ton of tackle. Any more questions just hmu

It seems the water here is always cloudy and brackish, unlike the west coast or florida. I could use a drone to fly out for surf, but I read they prefer to hunt, and I am not sure if it would be worth to fly out and then reel in hard. I do have pompano rig that I could try out. I went out to surfside this past Saturday but only saw trouts and no spanish or jacks. I can only go out on weekends or after work on weekdays and earliest I could arrive to galveston is around 7 pm.
I am a gear junkie and do have lots of lures to try including gotcha plugs, but just never seem to find them. When could I expect the water to be clearer? I thought about going to some piers at galveston but I have yet to see clear water.
if you want clearer water pay attention to the direction of the wind. another great way to catch smacks is if you got to the fishing pier dont pay but right outside you can use mullet and bobber they always seem to hit that. with fall swinging in the fish should be biting a lot more these next 3 month should be some of the best catching ! hope this helps if you're looking for more ideas man just keep watching a lot of the people are posting videos the island is so small now that not many secrets left most people are usually willing to help out. BTW try out east end lagoon if you can perfect condition lots of bait fish around there to keep predator fish in

How do you work a bucktail?
Bunch of different ways, bounce off bottom with some quick short twitches, or burn it back super fast. Those are my favorite ways. If the Spanish are schooling it’ll get hit before it hits the bottom! lol
