    Patricia is a wonderful human being, guided by angels and her interpretation is Heavenly. Bach is God's composer and her performance of Bach is supernatural. Glory to God in the highest!

    For the last 2 or 3 years all the hours I have for piano turn around Bach. I cannot stop listening to its music, and trying to play it.
    Elegant, beautiful interpretaton.

      Aber wenn ich doch noch etwas kritisches hinzufügen darf, so würde ich sagen, dass ich ihre Triller zu laut und heftig finde und die Fuge zu schnell und mechanisch. Da gefällt mir die Version von Richter doch besser: ruclips.net/video/xFTvjRpaU38/видео.html

      Tribhanga Campling forgive my english, my german is not very good. I agree with you completely. Richter expresses emotion that most Bach performers do not. And it’s been my biggest “pet peeve” with most players of Bach, which is like you say, robotic and too fast. I play the piano myself and when I play Bach at a slower tempo I discover all the wonderful harmonies that are blocked out if it is played too fast.

    • @TimothyCampling
      @TimothyCampling 4 года назад +2

      @@CarlBowlby Yes. I also play a lot of Bach. The older I get the more I love him - and the slower I play his spiritual compositions, the more I relish them.

    yes it's fast .. but she plays the fugue... dammnnnnnnnn well !!!!! one of my favorite interpretations .. in my opinion this is the way you have to play Bach's fugues ... I truly believe that Bach knew he could write fugues as nobody else and he wanted to demonstrate his genius mind , so the listener needs to feel the complexity (and then this voice enters and then this one and an other one and one upside down , and one reverse etc etc) ... and that's what she did here ..; TOP performance !!

    I feel that tradition for Bach’s playing at the piano settled for the most on slow tempos for certain fugues like this and others with similar writing without a real objective reason. Not to say that that’s not an interesting choice, not at all, but, as shown here, a different approach is equally legitimate and when taken by a great interpreter can reveal a spirit and expressivity in those pieces that is fascinating and very enjoyable.
    Tempo in Bach is a mystery for us to explore in endless ways, let’s be free!

    Fugue is very fast, but she makes it convincing. Most amateurs should probably not attempt this tempo, however. It tends to fall apart unless you have the kind of exquisite control a real pro like Hase, Hewitt, or Schiff has.
