Patricia is a wonderful human being, guided by angels and her interpretation is Heavenly. Bach is God's composer and her performance of Bach is supernatural. Glory to God in the highest!
For the last 2 or 3 years all the hours I have for piano turn around Bach. I cannot stop listening to its music, and trying to play it. Elegant, beautiful interpretaton.
Wow-Patricia took us on a beautiful journey through this prelude and fugue. Very focussed playing, consistent articulation and sure sense of the musical architecture of these pieces-highly enjoyable! And very well recorded, too
Tribhanga Campling forgive my english, my german is not very good. I agree with you completely. Richter expresses emotion that most Bach performers do not. And it’s been my biggest “pet peeve” with most players of Bach, which is like you say, robotic and too fast. I play the piano myself and when I play Bach at a slower tempo I discover all the wonderful harmonies that are blocked out if it is played too fast.
@@CarlBowlby Yes. I also play a lot of Bach. The older I get the more I love him - and the slower I play his spiritual compositions, the more I relish them.
yes it's fast .. but she plays the fugue... dammnnnnnnnn well !!!!! one of my favorite interpretations .. in my opinion this is the way you have to play Bach's fugues ... I truly believe that Bach knew he could write fugues as nobody else and he wanted to demonstrate his genius mind , so the listener needs to feel the complexity (and then this voice enters and then this one and an other one and one upside down , and one reverse etc etc) ... and that's what she did here ..; TOP performance !!

I feel that tradition for Bach’s playing at the piano settled for the most on slow tempos for certain fugues like this and others with similar writing without a real objective reason. Not to say that that’s not an interesting choice, not at all, but, as shown here, a different approach is equally legitimate and when taken by a great interpreter can reveal a spirit and expressivity in those pieces that is fascinating and very enjoyable. Tempo in Bach is a mystery for us to explore in endless ways, let’s be free!
Fugue is very fast, but she makes it convincing. Most amateurs should probably not attempt this tempo, however. It tends to fall apart unless you have the kind of exquisite control a real pro like Hase, Hewitt, or Schiff has.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and especially enjoyed the clarity and distinctiveness of all melodies (voices) without sacrificing the harmony of counterpoint. Thank you very much. (Also, Bach's intentions are sacrificed when played on harpsichord.)
The prelude is exceptional. I'm accustomed to a slower approach to the fugue. But for anyone who's played it, it's certainly tempting to try different tempi!
Interesting collection of comments here. But I wonder at those who feel the fugue is played fast. Really? Surely you’ve heard Mr. Gould speed through many a fugue, etc. I think she plays it at the perfect tempo, which I feel is moderato. Bravo!
Well the reason not to fugue it too fast is that all that highly considered structural integrity is allowed to be heard and breath but wow this is cool stem to stern.
I dislike how other people play this fast, just not suitable for a piece like this. But if it was for the Prelude BWV 851, then that would be different lmao

The voices in the fugue are exquisitely delineated. This tempo is perfect.
Excellente interprétation, la séparation des voix est magnifique.
Beautiful clear music. It is also remarkable to observe the face of the pianist testifying to her deep understanding of Bach's music.

Mir kamen die Tränen. So schön und innig, ohne "unbachisch" romantisch zu werden. Sich selbst vergessend, in Liebe von Bach für Bach.
Gut gesagt

It is like listening to Sviatoslav Richter.
Just in a different form.
Beauty playing beauty.

love the" tierce de picarde" at the end of the fuge
very beautiful!
I really love this Prelude, has a romantic breath. I don't know why people think that this is "boring".
