"George shit box" - you know the painters are funny fuckers when they're naming mixes like that. Love from Cork George, as an ex body work guy this whole series is a great to watch.
Even though your videos are beautifully edited and always hugely entertaining, they do also illustrate the immense time (as well as no small amount of skill and finesse) that is invariably demanded by high-quality bodywork. This project is a credit to your determination and tenacity.
I can't express my sadness when I see such short run times and the infrequency of upload on these incredible videos. I end up watching and re watching them in order to fill my need. Great job so far. You can tell this is a true labor of love. You are a true craftsman.
Won't lie...i realized i held my breath during the rollover of 'George's Shitbox'. Thankfully there was no drama like the VW bus. 😱 Cheers from frosty Eastern Canada!
Can you just imagine how much fun it will be to open the door, turn the key, and start the bugger! OMGosh, what a day that will be! Ok, I am going back to my beast to finish off the Seat Mounts!
George allways a pleasure to watch the car will be better than new the Lotus experts should be paying you for the engineering improvements you are making. John your friend from Glasgow
Nice work George… and liking the roll over jig and the usage of every last piece of steel you had. Pretty sure Gar is secretly in love with Esprit he just can’t force himself to admit it!
This roll cage is a beautiful and simple idea! I never would’ve thought of it as being a viable option, but then again I’ve never worked with a fiberglass body.
It was your cheerleading that made me confident enough to replace the convertible top of my Miata. Thanks George! Next up: roll bar. I have to do it because it takes up too much room in the house :-D
Hi, I just remembered to say that the holes you filled in on the footwells (one either side), could be the access holes for the long bolts for the front top or front lower wishbones. I can't remember exactly but I remember seeing you do it and it raised a concern. Good luck. I have a turbo Esprit I rebuilt over 4 or 5 years, its never really finished as there is always another little job. Great to drive now though so good luck and keep the faith,.
Damn i really like your channel. RUclips will be a sadnplace when this car is done! I hope you will continue with «the small details» that every car guy does even if the car is in use. You make even the smallest mini-project interesting.
I hope you get even the slightest bit of pleasure from the comments and making these little slices of delicious entertainment, you certainly pleasure us… no, wait… give us pleasure… no… offer enjoyment… and happiness. I love your videos and have thoroughly enjoyed this series, even if ‘prosthesis pink’ wasn’t in my vocabulary before, it has (so far) been a most excellent journey.
That's a neat looking frame there! Easy access means you will see & can actually get to all those places that you would never have otherwise noticed. Way to make the job -easier- bigger, George!
These Lotus bodies are incredibly difficult to work on. Massive respect for doing this and providing an example of how it should be done. Sadly these cars never started to carry value worthy of this level of work and I’m still on the fence if they’re there yet, but I’m glad you’re doing it all the same. I’ve built a couple of these engines for performance in the past using modern cam profiles and higher compression. 200hp in one of these is incredible
I so wanna see this completed, and if I ever meet you, I'd buy you a well deserved pint of the black stuff! (when its complete, it has to be at shows...)
Always a delight to see more Soup Lotus content, mate. I've been in a huge slump on my project, but with each upload I get closer to picking up the tools again.
Awesome video, really appreciate that you sharing each step. However never underestimate the damage molten metals can do. Please please cover the body when welding. 9:05
Great job! Great video! Thanks for posting and keeping me entertained. I once owned a Lotus, the only new car I ever bought and the last. It cured me of potentially buying another headache and overall pain in the arse. LOL. That was 50 years ago. Can't wait for the next installment.
@@soupclassicmotoring I owned a 1970 Lotus Europa. It was a love/hate relationship. It was a better performer than my Sunbeam Alpine, but it was not made for the roads of N. America (Northern Illinois/Southern Wisconsin)
Always a pleasure watching one of your videos. Keep at it. Long projects like this can result in burnout. Car looks great! Excellent videography as always and great narration as always.
Cool stuff George coming on sweetly though do agree the body should be covered when welding, looking forward to your next installment and the clean knickers
That cage is genius 😊I have bubbles in gel coat to repair on a cobra which will involve taking it back down to the fibreglass in places just wondering what the two fillers you used were many thanks
Great pot of Soup there, I have harvested all the steel beams to make my own octagon rotisserie also -just need to build a shop to have someplace to use it... Very satisfying to see your work captured in your way. I've been wondering, can't remember if you addressed it earlier but are you going to utilize the series 3 rear suspension updates? I saw a Lotus Espirit video that wasn't yours talking about the evolution of the car and was fascinated by it. Cheers George!
I would have loved to do the octagon thing (you can see hints of it in what I’ve done) but the steel would have been too expensive. S3 suspension mods aren’t a simple bolt on because fundamental changes were made to the chassis to accommodate them
We use colloidal silica (technically fumed silica, but it looks like there’s regional differences in what it’s called) in some of our products at my job. It’s a bit of a nightmare to work with, because when we mix it into our product it changes the viscosity, but not in a linear way. It turns it into a non-newtonian “rheopectic” fluid, where the viscosity increases with time under shear (which is how the viscosity is measured), making it really difficult to get an accurate measurement. Hardly related to the video at all, just thought it was a fun connection
George, I'm guessing you've seen the bloke in the US with the yellow S2, and the very crispy remains of the JPS... In his position, would you attempt the JPS?
The Pink is a pigmented gel coat? so all the small blemishes on maybe get some tinted gel coat rather than use " peanut butter" ??Edit if you are planning on spraying the under side anyway can get sprayable gel coat....
Given that the filler has quite a colour to it already, not sure that you'll get a perfect match - but it's worth a try. The pigment itself should be inert.
it's GREAT to see a new episode. I ALWAYS look forward to your new videos.

George my wife seems to be obsessed with your cage, she keeps shouting *ROLL OVER JIG* during the night.
Happy new year, Jig.

The music, the cinema, the story and yes the progress too, all just awesome! George, thanks so much for posting your journey! Just Great!!!!
Yikes 😳 I’m not scared 😱 I’m not 😬 it’s so good to see the Lotus coming together after all these years!
Much awaited, much appreciated excellent work as always from you.

Such a great clean area to work on. 👍👏👌 No cramped mini garage like most!

"Stay on target" so appropriate, Thanks and Happy New Year!

All that paint is coming off in short order anyway John! Cheers
So cool, love to see it!
That fibre reinforced filler is best hit with a body rasp about 15 to half an hour after application when its kinda hard.
👍🏼
The dust effects were superb.
🤙🏼
Good morning George 👍
Thanks again for the great video. JDS in AZ usa
Your doing an amazing job!
New Farrow & Ball colour: Granny pants prosthetic pink. Seem to remember it being popular as a bathroom colour in England of the 1970s...
Along with advacdo sink / toilet / bath ?
@ Oh God… yes. Many bad memories returning - avocado tiles, carpet, cupboard 😂
Same in the usa. Hospital colours.
Great work. I cannot work out if I noticed the boiler suit issue before or after the word "snug". For some reason it worries me, slightly. 😂
You were there already weren’t you
@soupclassicmotoring 🤔😅😂
very cool! sub'd for the Lotus way back when, but I've enjoyed the intermission so far too...appreciate the job you're doing on this awesome car!
Thanks for the sub! Will bring as much as possible asap
@@soupclassicmotoring no pressure brother, just do it at your own pace :)

Thank you too!
The hand action 🎉

I'm really enjoying it. I know stopmotion is time consuming, but I like when videos were longer (not too much 😁)
P.s. campervan update?
Will bring as much as I can, and hopefully there’ll be time for the Sprinter finale sometime later
8:56 Taking chances welding right next to the car. All those sparks will end up in the paint where they will rust.
All paint is coming off soon!
@@soupclassicmotoring Thats ok then
Will you do a tour of Ireland and the UK when its done so we can meet you and see the car?
Thinking of doing a patron meet up once it’s done Tom, it’d be in Ireland but maybe that would work for folk given enough notice
AMAZINGNES!!!
.... So Finished in 2027 or 28 or 29 or 2030...??

That Lotus will be mint when finished 👍🏼
😂👌🏼

Hi. Why tint the resin if the underbody is being painted?
Also, nice hoop.
Decision to paint was made after the order went in, so just playing with the pigment
Great video but welding on top of the fibre glass is not a good thing it gets stuck in to the jelcoat and rusts
No damage that I saw, and all getting sanded soon anyway!
How much does the whole body weights ?
Thank You in advance.
No one seems to have any patince these days, viewers of this chanel know why, you took way more than your fair share.
😆
I'd guess that the resin pigment would work OK in the filler too...
Interesting thought!
Given that the filler has quite a colour to it already, not sure that you'll get a perfect match - but it's worth a try. The pigment itself should be inert.
Thanks for the laughs, soup! Nom nom nom… 🤤

Whatever happened to the interior? Did you find it or re-source a set? Sorry if you’ve addressed this in another video.
Have a positive and solid lead, hoping to lock it in soon
Login this series. I hope you OEM ++ horsepower planned
Maybe use a colored bedliner underneath for protection and keep the pink? Or is that lotus blasphemy?
why not make a rotissery ?
Hi George, what flavour of filler is your favourite???
The green one is bubblegum flavour, true story
1:31 that got me
Are you on a mezzanine? You can carry it down stairs?
Not the first time a Lotus has ended up on its roof.
