Colour Sgt. Major Bourne lived till the age of 91 . He fought in the trenches of the first world war in the rank of colonel and died in his house on VE Day, 1945 at 16 Kings Hall Road, Beckenham, Kent.. On google earth street view you can see the blue disc on the front wall above the front door. If he had lived another 18 years he could have gone to the cinema to see the film. Naturally he would not have to pay at the cinema as there was a sign outside saying "Born Free".
Very Interesting. My Father was an Army Medic at Shorncliffe barracks Kent Although I grew up in Dublin. He moved back there after leaving the army. We have friends in Kent. Some of their old neighbors in Folkstone found items hidden under floorboards, dating back to D-Day landings. Young soldiers hid them, in the hope of coming back to retrieve them after the war.
Michael Caine got the part because the director, Cy Endfield, was an American who didn't care about Caine's background. The British class system didn't interest Endfield.
It's a great movie it shows both the bravery of the British defenders and the great courage and organization of the attacking Zulu warriors it's fair to both sides about a terrible battle. The British make great movies. Eg see desperate hours.
I'd say they're still a rare breed and considering this was the BA at the same time as the film was made. ruclips.net/video/N5gcdSxjV34/видео.html One must fit in
one of the best films ever made
One of the best film debuts as well
