What hit me probably most was that everyone's statues were very detailed and perfect and he spent a lot of time on them, but his own wasn't as detailed and he didn't spend as much time on it which shows that he didn't think of himself as highly as everyone else even though they humiliated him, he still made them detailed and perfect.
Well, there’s also the question of whether he’s even seen himself (can’t remember if there’s ever a scene where he sees his reflection from the bells). He can only guess how he looks like by his shadow (hunched) and touching his body (his bumpy eye).
I love that attention to detail. Men like him value the lives of others over their own. They usually believe women wouldn't want someone like him in their lives. But at the end of the day, Quasi is a man of Empathy, and a true depiction of what a Christian is.
This song is so underrated. You gotta love how Menken contrasts Frollo and Quasimodo musically. He does it in the beginning with "Stay in Here" and "Out There" and again here with "Heaven's Light" and "Hellfire". Musically, this is one of Disney's strongest films if not the strongest, it's just so amazing!!
Whats also beautiful is their take on the same topic ....one is in love with Esmeralda and it comes off as more of a romance...immediately followed is frollos hellfire and how he basically wants to bang her and if not, burn the bitch lmao
Hell yeah!! Especially because Quasimodo sees Esmeralda as an angel (and that angelic melody comes on whenever she's reaching out to him) while Frollo sees her as a witch/demon. Plus the whole 'Bells of Notre Dame' theme used over and over again throughout the movie to emphasise the 'power' of Heaven and God, even the opening starting from above the clouds and the ending going up to them, etc. I soooo love this film
Omg yeah. I've just noticed that contrast in themes, thanks for pointing it out I've seen this film plenty of times and listened to the songs even more, but I've honestly never noticed the contast. Shows how observational I am really lol
Well, what you pointed out is the musical motif of the movie, its even played in the the bells of Notre Dame and the prolouge. A youtuber by the name of johnathan young did a metal covers of hellfire and the bells of notre dame to see the similarities.
It's not just that. Hellfire starts soft, with a tune not so clashing with this one and the same blue color dominating the place The blue color and soft music slowly give way to darker and heavier colors and melodies as if to mimic Frollo loosing his mind bit by bit.
There's great juxtaposition between Heavens' light and Hell fire not only in the names but also in the lyrics. They are both essentially about how Esmeralda makes both the protagonist feel the pure feeling of love and the antagonist the feeling of lust. Honestly this is one of my favorite Disney movies and I would write a 10 page paper on the brilliance of its songs alone.
cooool74 THey also have parts where like Hellfire has the melody of HEaven's Light in a minor key and vice versa. A lot of it is musically ingenious as well.

It was supposed to present a parallel between Igor's love of Esmerelda and Lord Frolo's lust for her. Igor's is kind, hopeful, and pure. While Frolo's is cruel, selfish, and corrupt
I read a comment on a hellfire youtube video that pointed out how in this disneys version of the story Quasimodo puts her on a pedestal for showing him kindness hes never seen before and he thinks of her like a goddess or an angel from heaven which is still not how Esmeralda wanted to be seen, on the other hand Frollo saw her as an object of desire, a test from satan, a witch whose spell was cast upon him, a dangerous threat for him to eliminate or use to satisfy his blinding lust. He wanted to be able to use her but he thought of her as vermin. Phoebus however fought with her, returned her coins, helped her escape from frollo and his guards and loved her for who she was instead of idolising her or stepping on her, which is mainly why Quasi was a great friend and Phoebus her lover.
@@marilynevans9642 Yeah, someone summarized it as “Quasimodo thought her an angel, Frollo believed her a demon, Phoebus knew her a woman”. Which explains her choice. She does care for Quasi, and is grateful for all he did, but his blind adoration would have made for a very unequal relationship.
It broke my heart so bad to see Esmeralda with Phoebus, when Quasi was standing in the doorway tearing up looking at them kiss.. I felt Quasimodo's pain so strongly I always tear up my self.
Whilst I agree, I also think that it made sense. Quasimodo had more of a mother-son relationship rather than the relationship of a couple. Esmeralda being the only woman to show her kindness, she respected him, but he revered her. (Albeit, his infatuation being understandable as she was the only woman that was kind to him at that point.) Phoebus had a good chemistry with her. Both of them respecting one-another. I like the concept of Quasimodo/Esmeralda, but I understand why they didn't go through with it.
So sweet and genuine. It had a child like purity to it and every time I listen to it I can't help but be moved by the beauty of the song as a whole. Like come on, Hellfire is overrated at this point in my opinion. Sweet songs like this need more attention!
It also might be because I can relate to the feelings of the hunchback (forgotten his name) as I have a mental disorder which the moment I open my mouth and speaks becomes apparent. Autism is a part of me which people can either choose to look past or only see, and those that only see me as a person with autism don't help me get over the deep depression I've fallen into from people being really horrible. Only people like me know how harsh and cruel the word 'special' can be
this is literally the only time where a live action remake would make sense given the opportunity to produce something more mature closer to the source material, giving it the treatment the stage musical did, yet they continue to release garbage
A live action movie was in production b4 Beauty & The Beast. Alan Rickman did test footage for Judge Frolo & nailed the role so perfectly. After he was casted Disney was doing casting calls for the other characters & then he suddenly passed away. Movie production was then cancelled & they moved on to Plan B which was Beauty & The Beast
I swear to God when I was a kid and even now this song used to break my funking heart but you always must remember this song it's a reflection of. how people now and in the past looked at people who are different or deformed I remember the first time I saw this movie I was eight and this song made me cry this is a masterpiece that's Is under rated I just hope that more people in the future can appreciate it and understand the meaning of what Quasimodo is trying to say
What makes this song sad is that Quasimodo mistook Esmeralda's kindness as her falling in love with him. Yes Esmeralda loved him but only as a friend or like a brother. Quasimodo obviously has poor social skills particularly as he never had friends in the outside world and nobody ever showed him kindness before except the Archdeacon.
@@travisboutilier2220 why? She loves him as a friend because of the kindness he shows her, but ultimately Quasi views her as a perfect angel which she isn't. Just because he was kind to her does not require her to fall in love with him - and that has nothing to do with his appearance and everything to do with kindness /=/ romantic interest.
@hannahrobinson3935 That's only half right. You're wrong about Quasimodo. She showed kindness to HIM. And she was pretty physically appealing. Quasimodo confused his feeling of receiving kindness and his natural male reaction to her appearance as the same since he has no social aptitude due to being locked in a tower all his life. At the end of the movie, he finally separates these feelings as they should and he full supports Phoebus and Esmeraldas relation. What Quasimodo truly craved in the end was love in general. Not the romantical kind. He wanted acceptance.
Although he's born deformed, he has the voice and soul of an angel. Quasi, I know you're now somewhere out there, ever since the Cathedral burned. You might be homeless for the next five years, but I'd be willing to accept you in my home until the renovations are complete. In the meantime, stay safe and enjoy Heaven's Light as much as you like!

Alex Isada lmao the world isn’t too soft. You just can’t get away with being sexist/homophobic/racist without being called out for it. This movie would have been fine now a days, only difference is they would have made it in cgi or a live action as they’re doing with all of them. Get that weak “the world is too soft waaahhhh” shit out of here and actually go out and experience the world.
Quasimodo on top of losing his parents his master Esmeralda‘s love and affection for someone else had to also lose his home in the process! He’s home! And his wood carvings and gargoyle friends he couldn’t take them with him he had to leave. So he left but none of his woodwork gargoyle friends survived sadly! And he was distraught about it like so distraught it’s crazy! I think he was so emotional when he had realized what happened to his home! I would be. If I were him. 😫
I think kids should know the story and make it become a Disney classic of theirs. This is a great story to tell to them because it is so entertaining and it teaches good lessons to them. And if you tell them in a way where they will understand you and you’re telling they will most certainly like it and love it!
I love Quasimodo’s voice. His personality and voice don’t match his looks in the slightest. He has a kind heart, a beautiful voice, and a gentle soul. I love the lighting. I love the way he’s ringing the bells at the end, and the music playing there.
Quasimodo has such a beautiful delicate voice! His voice is so fun to listen to! It’s so tender and soft! I love it when he sings I just love it when he sings, it’s so soft I wanna fall asleep Listening to Quasimodo sing! It is so soothing! His voice, I can listen to it all day long. So what do you guys think?
Yes, Quasimodo has a sweet kind voice and it is so soft you have to listen very carefully to hear his voice I wish that I had Quasimodo‘s voice! Too bad I’ve got a loud one lol. I’m jealous of Quasimodo‘s soft voice for right now. If I could have any Disney characters voice for a day would be Quasimodo‘s. Because I love the sound of it. And he also has a sweet laugh! Actually he reminds me of Hercules from Hercules one of my second favorite Disney characters because like Quasimodo, Hercules had to go through a bunch of the same things. He lost his biological parents, he was adopted by other people, he never fit in with the rest, he was super strong like Quasimodo, also Hercules was quiet gentle and shy, he was soft-spoken and love to sing, was a dreamer, was heroic, and he was thought it was a monster, however one day he fell in love and everything changed. And though the villains tried to manipulate both of our heroes they defeated their villains successfully. However all these things and each characters movies would honestly and obviously have different outcomes you know and things would play out not the same way, Hercules got his parents back but Quasimodo did not his parents died! Sad guy. But the rest of the outcomes would not be the same such as Quasimodo not getting the girl in Hercules getting the girl, and Hercules having such loving parents to turn to when I need him Quasimodo having nobody to turn to because he was so lonely. I mean sure I’d argue the archdeacon and the gargoyles were there but still, at least Hercules had a loving family around him Quasimodo did not! Again I would argue the archdeacon and gargoyles were there for him but still, that’s not enough support. I guess Herc is more fortunate than Quasi because at least he had a farm lots of animals mythical creatures demigods and a loving loving family to turn to Quasimodo had none of that! Herc did but Quasimodo did not! However due to their past experiences as being misfits and different, both these young men should become best friends forever! I don’t care what the rules say I just care that if they are best friends they’re gonna get along super well. And I love them both because they’re equally the same and different at the same time! they are both two of my favorite Disney characters of all time! Because their pastor so tragic!
I understand the gargoyles are the comic relief in an otherwise dark and heavy film, but imo they detract from scenes like this. I agree with film reviews who said at the time that they don't mesh well with the tone of the film, and had they not been added this would be a perfect film.
LYRICS So many times out there I've watched a happy pair Of lovers walking in the night They had a kind of glow around them It almost looked like heaven's light I knew I'd never know That warm and loving glow Though I might wish with all my might No face as hideous as my face Was ever meant for heaven's light But suddenly, an angel has smiled at me And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright I'd dare to dream that she Might even care for me And as I ring these bells tonight My cold dark tower seems so bright I swear it must be heaven's light
Even though the song is so pretty, 😊 I tried to sing along with it but I can't stop laughing at the gargoyles, especially Hugo, who is making onto his mischief! 😂
I remember this song use to make me cry when i was younger because i felt exactly as he did. Its sad to think at such a young age that i didnt like my appearance. Even today i still don't 😅 what's new? Hahaha.
I noticed that the Gargoyles drew pictures during this number, and here’s how I ranked them: Hugo: Really, Hugo? You drew her goat, Djali? Victor: Not bad for a drawing. I like how he gave Esmeralda her tambourine, too. Laverne: Ooo la la... Nicely done. Definitely the best out of all three.
Stop calling this an incel song. Quasimodo is actually genuinely nice and he doesn’t see Esmeralda as someone who owes him anything and didn’t hate her for ending up with Phoebus, heartbroken? yes, which is normal, but not the hatred incels have, this is no different than the average Disney princess in love song. The closest thing to an incel in this movie is Frollo.
I watched this movie as a kid over and over and I loved it and it was fine Here I am at 28, and I sit here bawling during every song because everything about it is perfect
Quasimodo has quite a talent and pace of carving a piece of wood to a sculpture of Esmeralda and paint exactly how it looks under a minute!? Can anyone of us do that like him? Lol
I feel like Disney missed the mark with the Quasi-Esmerelda-Phoebus angle. Phoebus is the cliche prince charming, who I do like as a character due to his (hurhur) charm, I do feel the message would hit home with Esmerelda falling for Quasimodo due to his nature and kind hardheartedness else, they should have gone for the mother-son angle aka Maternal love trumping an abusive Paternal figure. Even as an Atheist I would have liked to have seen the genuine Christianity opposing the fanatical version, because it would serve the story here. That's just me though, feel free to disagree.
Yes many people wish she had fallen for quasi, but the reason Disney made it so that she would fall for Phoebus is deeper than that. Frollo saw her as a demon and looked at her as someone he needs to fix and was purely lusting after her. Quasi saw her as an angel, if they had a relationship it would be more dog-owner because he saw no flaws and looked up to her so much. Phoebus is the only one who sees her as a real human, he sees the good AND bad in her yet loves her anyway. They see eachother as true equals which is necessary for a strong relationship. Also quasi finds that with a girl in the sequel, and ends up happily married.
Damn I didnt even notice
Yeah, his arms are just uncarved pieces of wood.
Well, there’s also the question of whether he’s even seen himself (can’t remember if there’s ever a scene where he sees his reflection from the bells). He can only guess how he looks like by his shadow (hunched) and touching his body (his bumpy eye).

His personality and voice don’t match his looks in the slightest. He has a kind heart, a beautiful singing voice, & a gentle soul.
Ummmm did anyone see the (off) Broadway version yet? OMG- AH-mazing. Michael Arden is CRAZY AMAZING.
I Wish I Had Friends Like Quasimodo did in the movie i love his song heavens light it reminds me that everyone deserve love
I understand the gargoyles are the comic relief in an otherwise dark and heavy film, but imo they detract from scenes like this.
I agree with film reviews who said at the time that they don't mesh well with the tone of the film, and had they not been added this would be a perfect film.
6th comments, what has happened to the world to not appreciate great movies?
LYRICS
So many times out there
I've watched a happy pair
Of lovers walking in the night
They had a kind of glow around them
It almost looked like heaven's light
I knew I'd never know
That warm and loving glow
Though I might wish with all my might
No face as hideous as my face
Was ever meant for heaven's light
But suddenly, an angel has smiled at me
And kissed my cheek without a trace of fright
I'd dare to dream that she
Might even care for me
And as I ring these bells tonight
My cold dark tower seems so bright
I swear it must be heaven's light
Why does this song have me in tears every time I hear it?
One of my favourite songs of all time! Thank you so much for posting.
People are liking about Clopin and Frollo singing, but Quasimodo feels left out, having an ugly face but owning a sweet voice, he's so underated.

This song makes me happy and sad
I’m so conflicted😌😭
Even though the song is so pretty, 😊 I tried to sing along with it but I can't stop laughing at the gargoyles, especially Hugo, who is making onto his mischief! 😂
I love this movie, it's so underrated!! This is my favorite song from it.😁
I remember this song use to make me cry when i was younger because i felt exactly as he did. Its sad to think at such a young age that i didnt like my appearance. Even today i still don't 😅 what's new? Hahaha.
The songs in this movie... wow
Oh, Quasi. Your heart alone was Heaven.
I love mr. Walt Disney for everything he gave us
He's been twitterpated.
I love that word
Clopin Trouillefou You know where it came from, right?
Bambi
Clopin Trouillefou Bingo!
(gives you a cookie)
Yay!! (takes cookie and starts munching on it)
I noticed that the Gargoyles drew pictures during this number, and here’s how I ranked them:
Hugo: Really, Hugo? You drew her goat, Djali?
Victor: Not bad for a drawing. I like how he gave Esmeralda her tambourine, too.
Laverne: Ooo la la... Nicely done. Definitely the best out of all three.
OMG this song always makes me cry 😭 I love this movie such incredible touching songs
Uh oh... Quasi is singing! PREPARE TO CRY UR HEART OUT
Everytime Quasimodo sings, he’s got a beautiful singing voice. It’s better than my singing voice XD
His personality and voice don’t match his looks in the slightest. He has a kind heart, a beautiful singing voice, & a gentle soul.
I can't find an instrumental for this anywhere and it breaks my heart uuugh
It reminds me of Erik from The phantom of the opera, hope i'm not the only one
I also never saw this "heaven's light". Wish someday I can see it.
You will, I promise
Stop calling this an incel song. Quasimodo is actually genuinely nice and he doesn’t see Esmeralda as someone who owes him anything and didn’t hate her for ending up with Phoebus, heartbroken? yes, which is normal, but not the hatred incels have, this is no different than the average Disney princess in love song. The closest thing to an incel in this movie is Frollo.
It's the definition of good and bad. The movie is a masterpiece showing both sides of the coin. It will always be a classic.

I'm an alto, and I've wanted to be able to hit that note for so long. I finally did it!! (not well but you get the point)
Saddest part is he doesn’t actually get Esmeralda
Beautiful music video of heaven's light lyrics
Angel's heart of lightness
This song makes me sad and happy inside
That was my favorite childhood movie when I was little 👍
i can relate
i too am deeply in love with Esmeralda
This was always my favorite along with Aladdin
Quasimodo: so many times out there I watched a happy pair of lovers...
Me: So you watch them french kiss or something blehhh
Quasimodo is the angel of heaven’s light. Being a good deed of saving Esmeralda’s life and it’s the light of being a good person….until Frollo is…
I watched this movie as a kid over and over and I loved it and it was fine
Here I am at 28, and I sit here bawling during every song because everything about it is perfect
This song has gotten me through so many tough times. I play it all the time on piano.
HindsightPOV i love this song so much too. Upload a video of you playing this.
awesome
I wish they would go back to making these types of movies they were so much more emotional
It’s the next song that contrasts with this one.
And is the best villain song Disney ever put out
Damn, Laverne is a good artist!
Shaun Cullado so true. XD
I relate to this song, I just confessed to my crush and he did'nt judge me and I hate my body so im quasimodo and my crush is esmerelda. 😍
I think everyone deserves heaven´s light

(0:29) SHIP!
I agree
I’m 21 and have never been in a romantic relationship with anyone, this song strikes a personal chord for me
who'd've thought Pinto from Animal House would sing so beatifically
1:01 that’s me 🤣
0:58 - Not bad, Laverne! 😉👍🏻
Beautiful wedding bells
Don't worry Quasi. You'll find love in the sequel
he did.
The only reason they made a sequel tbh
That wasn't good enough.

This song has no business being this good
I will never have a Heaven Light :(
you will do.
@@benrobson3442 You wouldn't get it
I think I have.
The only redeeming quality of THBoND 2 was that Quasimodo found love
Beata Maria
You know I am a righteous man
Of my virtue I am justly proud
Quasimodo has quite a talent and pace of carving a piece of wood to a sculpture of Esmeralda and paint exactly how it looks under a minute!? Can anyone of us do that like him? Lol
He's very talented artist💚
I remember my mom crying in the theater during this song
This song is just so kewt
I completely agree with that statement
That would actually be the normal Disney path. For the heroine to fall in love with the protagonist. They changed it up a bit.
Remember this movie was (somewhat loosely) based on Victor Hugo's novel.
heaven's light makes me cry 😢😢
I love songs that reference heaven an oddly high amount for an atheist
