Till is saying to save each other from the heartache of everyday life and things that bring people down because the time you spend with your family, friends, people you love etc. They may be years and seem like a long time but if you look at the big picture they will be gone soon...could be your children going off to college and a new life on their own, or a seperation/divorce...the death of a loved on etc. So the time you spend with them will seem like only minutes.

The translation for "Zweisamkeit" as "togetherness" is a bit flawed as it's a play on words. "Einsamkeit" means loneliness. "Eins" means "one", "Zwei" means "two". So imho when he says: "Safe each other from -Zweisamkeit-" it means the feeling of loneliness even with a partner on your side. Loosing connection to the other person, letting love dissolve into nothingness by the mundane everyday life which leads to breaking up with them. So his plea is not to don't have a partner in the first place but enjoy the time you have with them and keep the relationship fresh.

For me he is gong one word at time to simulate heartache
Since this was a poem found in his grandmothers attic and is used as wedding vows then it seems to me its saying to be nice to each other and love one another because you don't know how long the 2 of you have with each other. So even if your marriage last for many years when they are gone you still miss them you still think if only they'd live longer etc. In fact the longer your with someone whom you truly love the more it hurts when they are gone..whether it be through them leaving you (for whatever reason) or they pass away it hurts more the longer you've been together
That's why in the end he says " save each other from togetherness"
Einsamkeit means loneliness
zwiesamkeit means togetherness
So the only way to save yourself from real heartache is to not get so involved or fall in love with someone because they will eventually be gone and it will hurt even more.
