Hello, does your question refer to not treating Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus? NPH is typically characterized by progressive symptoms that require intervention in some form. If you want to learn more about NPH, the American Hydrocephalus Association has a great website with information on the development, treatment and prognosis of NPH but also on NPH left Untreated: www.hydroassoc.org/about-normal-pressure-hydrocephalus/ All the best from Potsdam, Mirjam for MIETHKE
Hey Celena, was it NPH and did he have the shunt? how is he now? my father in law fell and hit his head, developing these symptoms rapidly over the following year. I stumbled across NPH as an alternative to parkinsons/ET (he has ET) and was shocked to see that this explained everything he was going through. Yet he had multiple scans and was told it was not NPH. They didn't even KNOW of NPH let alone suspect it! Today he went for a consultation to have his ET treated (another brain procedure) when the consultant surprisingly stated that he thought he had NPH as soon as he saw him! Now waiting for spinal tap and praying this is it, because I don't believe he's gone down hill so quickly via dementia/alts.

There is much to be said for a shunt, also much to be discovered about the brain's ability to recover without it.
Can it recover without it
