Thanks so much for the video from the UK. I've just bought and F-Type and read a lot of comments about the battery. Very useful for the future. Happy new year!
Hey, thanks for the video! My F-Type was completely dead and your video helped me get back in. Two things, the alarm goes off once you put a jumper on so have the remote handy and 2, it is a bit tough to get the blade key back out. You need to turn it counter clock wise to remove it.
Thanks so much. I had to use two sets of jumper cables to get my car started again. Without your video I wouldn’t have known about being able to that. I don’t know there were leads up front. I knew the battery was in the trunk but wasn’t sure where or how to access it. Thanks for posting this!
Ron Newman First off, I'm so sorry for such a late reply! For some reason I just got notified🤦🏽♂️. However, I'm so happy to hear it helped you out! Glad you got it up and going though! ✌🏽😁
Hello, Great video, however Jaguar Forums in the Uk say do not Jump start or trickle charge at the battery in the boot. You should jump start from the Terminals under the bonnet that you correctly showed in your video, and trickle charge from a Juntion box live terminal and earth, located in the boot under a cover that you did not remove during your video. The reason is it can fry the computer brain.
Thanks Abe! ... unfortunately, I needed this video today. I let my F sit too long and the battery was dead. Got her up and let her run on the freeway for a bit to charge up. Will take her out again tomorrow just to make sure. Cheers.
No problem! Glad the video helped! It never is fun when a dead battery happens but enjoy driving it to charge it up🙌🏽(that’s back to the fun part haha) 😁✌🏽
Thank you for a clear and accurate presentation. I have a 2017 F Type and got everything working as a result. I bought a trickle charger and a new set of Jump Cables because the standard cable Jaws are too large to use on the negative terminal on the Battery in the Boot. The placing of the -ive terminal and the design are not conducive to an easy fix. Once again many thanks.
Question: I have a 2014 F-Type S V8. It only sat for maybe two weeks or less and didn’t start. It keeps saying low battery so I get some electricity in the car including the screen. I jump started it easily under the hood to the fuse box. I let it sit for 10 minutes and then drove 20 minutes to Auto Zone. I parked and turned the car off assuming I just need a new battery. The kid puts in the brand new battery and not only won’t it start but it won’t even jump start. The older gentleman that works there came out to help and he tested everything and doesn’t understand why it won’t start. I said I just jump started to get over here why would a brand new battery be worse. In fact the car electrical system was acting up worse than before including the windows went down and I couldn’t work them or lock the car. He said it must be the alternator and ultimately I had to get a tow truck home. Today I can still unlock the car with the remote and open the trunk. It has some electrical inside and still says low battery and won’t start. What do you suggest is the issue?
Thank you man we don’t drive the car enough so the battery went dead. She’s had this 2018 F type jaguar since she bought it brand new in 2018 she only has 800 miles on it if that tells you anything.
A few things to note. Jaguar totally screwed the pooch on this dead battery issue. Their repair/service manual, not the owners manual; says to never connect to the battery directly while connexted in the car because that can damage the modules the car uses to manage the battery and syart/stop. Mine was just dead after being on vacation. I connected a battery teick chagrer and it still died. I found I had to connect my jump pack up front and i have about 4 seconds where the lights blink to run to the back and hit the trunk pop button. Then diconmect the battery and charge it up while completely diconnected from the car. Jumping it or charging inside the trunk supposedly damages it and the car will not let you start it. At least this is the case right now on my 2017. As i type this the battery is charging up. Hoping no problems once charged. Also, it helps to put contact electeical grease on the positive terminal up front to keep it clean and ready. I found mine was not making good contact.
Yep, one of the main reasons why I got rid of it and will not buy one again. They fail to correct it. I never heard of not to connect directly to battery while it is still hooked up to the vehicle. That’s a new one but wouldn’t surprise me. Lol through the years of ownership I never once had any issues with modules going bad. However, look up to your local dealership for software updates for the main module or CAN/BUS line (I think that’s what it’s called) but it’s basically a highway of data/communication inside a module that determines to keep things on or when to turn other modules off. After I got this update it did seem to help….for a little while at least lol then it was back to square one after a few months. Lol that’s when I decided to get rid of it.
@@ReelTake In the PDF relair manual I aquired it has info on not doing it. But says nothing about getting into the trunk when dead. But i figured out a jump pack under the hood gives you 3 sexondsnto run to the back and push the button to manual lift it. I made a quick video on it.
Appreciated you sharing your video to fire up your Ftype. Unfortunately, my battery is completely dead so I purchased a new one to install. Given that I have no juice at all, how you open the rear hatch to access the battery compartment ? Also to install the new battery, it seems I will need to remove additional panels to access, any thoughts regarding that process ? THANKS for your insights !!!
Do you need to do the first method and second method? Or would you just suggest charging the battery in the trunk? My car currently has a charge but will not start after letting sit for a month.
I always thought there were two batteries in my car. One at the front for starting and one at the rear for start and stop. In fact everything comes from behind? The front is just the calculator? Ps: on mine the start and stop never worked, so I thought the 'rear' battery was dead. Thank you for your video. Greetings from Belgium.
How do you get into the trunk with the key manually? It says to the side of the license plate light is a tumbler but I have opened all the options which are not tumblers!
Amazing video. Very upfront and informative. I have the same exact F-Type and was at a lost of why the battery even died when I hardly drive the damn vehicle. But that must be why it was dead. Can't wait to actually try these when I get home. Thanks again for this vid. GOOD JOB.
Hey, I'm so sorry I am just seeing this!! you may have to connect Jumper cables to the contact points under the hood(as shown in video). Leave the jumper cables on for about 10 min or so with a running vehicle on the other end of the cables. That should give you enough voltage to at least unlock the vehicle(including the trunk). IF that still does not work, it may be possible that your trunk latch has malfunctioned. Please note: it takes a lot of pressure to lift the trunk lid when the battery is dead, so don't be afraid to pull up with quite a bit of force. I hope this helps you a bit! 😁✌🏽
Thanks ,I have a 2017 f type but the lL shape gos up not down and i was able to get in car .I'm not happy with the dealer that sold me this car and if I were not macanicly inclined I would be in trouble 20 k on this very nice care but I found battery covers off on car when I lifted hood and new something wasent right .low battery alert came up on dash ,let car set for three day and this is what I got .well I'll replace the battery mysekf and will be talking to this high end sales man at this high end dealership .🥵
I do believe these cars have very common issues with modules staying active and draining your battery. But I agree it definitely helps to be mechanically inclines when owning one of these cars cuz it will save you loads of money! 😁Thanks for watching!🙏🏽✌🏽
Thank you so much! I bought a battery charger and maintainer and it's been such a worthy investment! I just didn't know where everything was on my F-Pace (everything is around the same place, but the positive terminal is a bolt instead of a flat hinge). This was an absolute life saver! (Just in case: it's the 12v/6v, 4 AMP Battery Charger from Battery Tender and it's the one that is able to switch between AGM/Lithium batteries)
@@ReelTake ...great video, my F-Type is completely dead and I can't get enough charge for the car to come on to open the trunk. I have the booster cable from my other car hooked to the post under the hood.
Sorry for the late reply! I hope you figured it out but once you have the charger hooked to the posts under the hood it should supply enough voltage to get you to press the unlock button on the door(this may take 10min or so). Once that happens you will have to manually press the exterior trunk button and then push up the trunk lid by hand until you can get battery charged a bit. Hope that helps! ✌🏽
Thanks bro. I was able to hook up my CTek from the front hood, hopefully she’ll be ok. You have no idea you’re a life saver!
Awesome! So glad this video helped you out! Best of luck! 😁✌🏽

So how do you open/unlock the hitch if the battery won't jump?
So... My trunk unlatches but it does not go up automatically does that mean I have to charge the battery that is in the trunk?
Thanks ,,, I was looking for the location of the battery and how I could charge it if I had problem with it. Now I know how to charge.
Thanks

This is where I'm at ... right now. I can't get enough juice to pop the trunk. I don't see a way to open the back to access the battery manually.
Great video thanks, got me going.
Awesome, glad to hear that! 😁✌🏽
These obdII emissions strains are killer... I can't go through this dead battery crap every year.
Good looking out bro

Payam Jan it’s an AGM Battery (absorbed glass mat battery) 😁✌🏽

neither😂 It's the base model with a tune.
