It was shot in 1966, during the 1966 season. There was some footage shot in Germany but they weren't allowed to use the footage because of another race movie set in the same time... but that movie got cancelled..
The last year for this 1.5 liter engine was 1965. In 1966 the formula one rules changed to 3.0 liter engines.1.5 liters is 91cubic inches of displacement and the engine was normally aspirated no turbos allowed. Sounds like a sewing machine gone nuts.
@@KayoMichiels the cancelled movie was "Day of the Champions" Shooting, among other places, was at Oulton Park in the 1966 TT won by Denny Hulme in a Lola T70. There was a Brabham camera entered in race which was very competitive and ran with the rear deck removed to accommodate the cameras. The whole race was filmed from both car and helicopter.
And completely road legal in Italy with its Modena "trade-plate" number painted on the engine cover. That's what 'Prova-Mo' means - Test Vehicle, Modena.
this engine is based on the one of the first Ferrari ever it was modified through the years but they used the concept of this enginge till the late 80s And this exact number 18 car won in Monaco today
Very similar to Honda’s motorcycles at the time. Amazing how the performance car world and bike world split. More weight required bigger bore and stroke where as motorcycles were able to keep the same type of engine due to minimal weight gain over the years (compared to cars at least)
Does anyone know if this is a 180-degree V-12 or a boxer flat-12? To me it sounds like the former, but I know Ferrari has made some engines with 12 crankpins in the past...
DL Actually that’s not correct. I too have access to Wikipedia but after posting this I found the answer. Seems like it is indeed a 180-degree V12, not a boxer flat-12 (6 crankpins): www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/139/Ferrari-1512-F1.html
This engine developed 220 PS (162 kW; 217 hp) @ 12,000 rpm compared to the 210 PS (154 kW; 207 hp) @ 11,000 rpm of the 158's V8 engine. From Wikipedia.
Imagine being at a race back then. How hypnotic it must have been
no phones either
Jack Brabham didn't like to wear ear plugs because he thought it to his advantage to be able to hear everything and ended up deaf later in life.
I saw this car at a Goodwood Track Day and it failed the noise test 6 times. It just shows how incredibly loud it is. 😂😂😂
Francois G there shouldn't be a noise test
Jeff Williams it is for all those people who live near Motor racing circuit and don't give a fan about car and support the green party.
Francois G ... I know, but those people should know better than to move near a circuit. I don't like them very much...
Jeff Williams happens all the time. People move next to race track, gun range, what have you then complain until it gets shut down.
But what’s louder, this or an early 2000s V10 F1 car?
Those pistons must be the size of half-dollars
56.0 mm × 50.4 mm
@@Blenzo480 that's incredible
@@Blenzo480 Those pistons are smaller than my car's stroke. LOL
That’s why the F1 motors even of the 90’s were incredible to me. 3 liter, NA, 18,500 redline and 700 plus hp, wow.
@@Blenzo480 thats about the same as my 125 dirt bike engine lol
What a beautiful machine and what an amazing sound as well. Thanks so much for uploading. Greetings from Germany.
Thanks for your comment!
Love that flat 12 mellow sound! Porsche 917 has the same mellowness.
Omg the sound...
Adrian Daret I'm sad that I'll never get to watch 12 cylinder racing
You can.. when you gonna watch some historic grand prix racing.
@@spamcan9208 if you’re ever able to get to an F1 race, they’re often accompanied by Masters Historic Racing. It’s sensational.
Coolness level of F1 peaked in the 60s change my mind ;)
70s imo, cool car desings while keeping the same sounds of the 60's
un son merveilleux...une vraie symphonie...les italiens sont des artistes
My favorite era of formula 1. Small, angry, only mechanical grip.
Marvelous piece of vintage tech.
amazing sounding Ferrari 1512 f1
Magic, Bozzy, magic as usual. Thanks a lot!
No problem! Thanks for your comment!
What a gorgeous din! Thank you, 19Bozzy92. Thank you, Ferrari. IM
Stunning sound. What a beauty. Thanks.
Thank you for watching!
I love those classic F1 racers.
Amazing sound. Really wanna drive a vehicle of this nature soon
it sounds like hatred being stung by a swarm of bees
What a nice intermission. Nice vid great sound. Thanks Boz' you are money! (Always watching.) B.P.
Thanks as always dude!
eargasmic 👌
So old yet sounds way better than the vacuum cleaners we have today in F1
Lovely, and what a sound. I wonder if it played any role in the 1966 film "Grand Prix".
Sadly no... they used supped up F2 cars in the movie.
MK3424 Of course at that time F1 and F2 cars look relatively the same.

Beautiful music!
Natural sound of past times.
Mamma mia come suona! :-O
That was a "driver's" era. What a beauty!
I miss the Gran Prix Legends game already
Now THAT'S more like it!
What a small beauty
Honda had a 4 cyl .250 cc 4 stroke , many GP 500 cc motorcycles.
This Ferrari evolved into a 2 liter European hillclimb racer
Why can’t F1 sound like this today!
Wasn't it for the lack of safety, these cars were the peak of car racing. Thanks for the video!
Absolute music!!
Beautiful!
OMG the sound! 👌
Watched the whole video with my eyes closed.....
Magnifique ! Quel son ! 👍🏁🏎️🤓🇨🇵
You know that car thay's on almost every one's classic F1 poster? Yep, it's this car.
You should see and hear the development of this into the 212 hill climb car ( 2 liter and lighter weight ) these were from the early 1960's
How can you put 12 cylinders in a 1.5l engine it just doesn’t fit into my mind🤯🤯🤯
Incredible and beautiful car
Un opera d arte!

sounds like a cross between a Porsche 908 and a V12 formula f1 car. Quite cool!

Failing the noise test would mean for me: not load enough 🙂
Just for reference, each piston is about 5cm in diameter
I wanna see and hear the 1978 Brabham BT46B again please.
125cc per cylinder
A "Baby V12" engine 🤠
A M A Z I N G !!!!!
Is that blipping noise on gear changing the classic heel and toe technique that used to be used ??
damn the sound,so fcking loud!
The sound is not crazy! It's exactly what a one and a half liter Formula 1 car should sound like. Unlike the turbo hybrid six cylinders of today.
排気音が心地よいです♪
Beast☺good sound imagine f1 drivers in this car .beatiful f1 car ever.shark nose🐟
I think it would make a great motorcycle engine. For a fairly large bike, of course,
This is opposite to Saleen, V8 7L (almost one L per cylinder).
The only Italian I could tink of who would design such a thing is Rocco Siffredi...only he would put it in the front so it would have a long hood....

It is a flat 12. a boxer. Bore and stroke : 56 mm x 50,4 mm. 9,8 /1. 225 bhp at 11 500 rpm. fuel injection.
