Arguably the most iconic riff in thrash. Grew up in the 80s skateboarding to this and the others of the 4 horsemen of Thrash

    • @sp0ngeb00b7

One of the most iconic for sure!! I wasn't around to live through that whole period so I'm not 100% sure what has stuck with thrash fans **of the time** as most iconic, but ofc, you have to account for popularity when talking ab iconography, so for me personally it HAS to be Master of Puppets and that INSANE down-picking intro. And also ofc, just as popularity isn't all that makes the icon, it isn't all that decides the quality either, not trying to downplay how awesome Slayer's riff is or say anyone is better at all :)

Mike Miniboss If you already haven't , please listen Ghost's "Cirice" for the opening riff. It certainly has the influence of this and even more of "South Of Heaven". I think it is a homage as well.

Maybe i'm too "nu-school" but Slayer are most certainly not thrash. I can see why they might have been called that before we had a label for the genre. But we do now, it's death metal. At it's finest.

It was Slayer, So I immediately clicked on it and liked it. They have tons of good stuff, but some of that stuff pushes controversial boundaries about religion and "satanism". So I don't really expect you to like some of their stuff.
If you want a similarly intense metal band. Check out Vektor -Tetrastructural Minds (play a lyric video so you can read along). The metal genre in general is a very very vast and deep trench.

Slayer are not Satanist, open your ears and brain at the same time , there lyrics are a message , read the old testament, see how it is a road map to hell for how people act , its the darkest part of the Bible with instruments,

Ive loved EVERYTHING Slayer as put out since I first heard them in 1985 when I was 22. I wasnt really into metal but started dating a rock chick in the mid 85 and she introduced me to them, consequently we saw them live 3 times in the 80s and they were absolutely on point vocally and instrumentally as they were in the studio. Ive bought every album and loved every track ever since and the progression from 80's to noughties is brilliant. They have a couple of absolute top drawer tracks on every album but out of the rest there's none I feel compelled to skip. Funnily enough I dont even consider myself a metal or even a rock fan, I like a huge range of stuff (even opera) but I still dont like any other metal band enough to buy an album, I like the odd track from the odd band and that's about it, but I can filter Slayer up on my itunes once a week and just play everything I have from the earliest to the latest in one session. Most thrash and death metal bands are just smashing out the same old riffs and a whole lot of noise but not much else. Slayer are in a different league, download the back catalogue from Hell Awaits up to Diabolus In Musica and you wont be dissapointed.

I ALWAYS subscribe to anyone who listens to SLAYER!
I have been hoping someone would do a 2 song reaction to South of Heaven followed by the next track on the album, Silent Scream. Please consider doing this. The contrast between the two and the way they transition from one to the next is unique. If this was too crazy sounding, just know that there are many more "accessible" tracks by this iconic band... looking forward to what I hope is many more metal reactions!

I was around in the 80's during the hay day of the big four and seen them all numerous times live and just could not get in to Slayer at all, all my mates where Metallica and Slayer crazy yet for me it was Megadeth and Anthrax. I once drunkenly slept just off the side of the stage completely through a Slayer gig on the Clash of the Titans tour because i had to wait for my mates who wanted to watch them perform. I had watched Anthrax and Megadeth and i was happy to leave but couldn't leave with out them so found some empty seats just off to the side of the stage and slept through the whole Slayer show. Hard to believe with them being so loud but as i was pissed as a c**t i slept like a baby. Fast forward 30 years and i still don't see the appeal, to me it is nothing more than just noise.

Great video man! Love the real reactions to Slayer. Unfortunately Slayer has retired 😥. Check out the songs South Of Heaven, Skeletons Of Society, Seasons In The Abyss, L.A. 92 ft. Ice T. Also first time on your channel and I liked what I saw!! Keep on bringing more metal! Also, you should react to Slipknot fire pit in Phoenix Arizona 11-02-21 There are multiple video angles of the portal to Hell, aka the fire pit
