The Motown, Disco, and Funk bands were stylin' back in the day, and had smooth moves. So much fun to go to the concerts back then. Brings back so many memories. Thanks.
Midnight Special was just full of great performances of all kinds of musical styles. Great performance here from The Spinners. Loved watching this show back in the day.
When bands were bands, singers could sing, and there was a party in the house! Midnight Special brought American Bandstand into color TV, and iced the cake.
I grew up listening to this song, and I always get up and sing , dance, and just celebrate Life everytime I hear it. Actually, it's in a scene in one of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the whole crew is singing it !!!! One of the best, feel-good songs ever ! Glad you enjoyed it.
The Spinners are an American R&B vocal group from the 50's-70's. They had a lot of great songs such as "That's What Girls Are Made For", "Love (I'm So Glad) I Found You", "I'll Always Love You", "Truly Yours", "It's A Shame", "We'll Have It Made", "I'll Be Around", "Games People Play", "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love", "One Of A Kind (Love Affair)", "Together We Can Make Such Sweet Music" etc. They had a big hit in 1974 with a collaboration with Dionne Warwick, "Then Came You".
They are not considered a Motown group, however. Although originally signed to the Motown label, they really didn’t hit it big until they moved to the Atlantic label.
@@Cookies_crumbs They recorded with the Motown label in the 60's. The group was also known as the Detroit Spinners & the Motown Spinners in the UK. This was done to distinguish them from a British folk group also called the Spinners.

I’m 68, and this white boy, growing up in rural Georgia loved soul and R&B. The Spinners were a great favorite, and I loved the lead vocals of Philippe Wynn.

Way back in 1982 my high school had a whiz kid basketball player. Only 5’4” there nothing he couldn’t do with a basketball. Our local tv station did a montage of his greatest plays with Rubberband Man playing in the background. It was AMAZING & I’ve never forgotten it.
Welcome Back, Welcome Back, Welcome Back.....(Another '70s classic you might not has seen yet??) The Spinners........they had some beautiful ballads too. Mighty Love, and, One of a Kind (Love Affair), still touch my heart.

Love me some Spinners. About 30 years ago, I went to see them and couldn't wait for them to play One of a Kind Love Affair. One of my all time favorites. They didn't have a lot of time because it was at a music festival so they played a medley of their biggest songs, this being one of them. I was bummed out but they had to give up the stage for the next act. They made up for it and ended their show with Rubbeband Man and kicked it.
