Opening with “The guy’s got his fingers into” was a bold choice.
😂
The problem is that these accusations will stick with him even if he was proven innocent. But as for his innocence… there was a definite power imbalance to all those relationships that scream predatory.
Also the fact the Gaiman had arrogantly championed cancel culture and believe all women, leaves me with little sympathy for him.
And finally, I never liked Gaiman’s work even though I can appreciate their creativity and craft they were not my cup of tea.
Those who scream the loudest, always got something to hide
The guilty dog always barks the loudest.
Unless you step on a Lego in your bare feet - that's just screaming the loudest.
The problem is not many of the women ever said “no,” and the one who did then later said it was great and she loved it, before she didn’t.
@@Rorysammyso you are saying they are pretending to be victims?
@@MatthewLoh-ru1mw
Are you saying they were pretending not to be? We at least know Pavlovich sent Gaiman a reassuring text to say it had all been "consensual (and wonderful)". Now, I am not saying she is lying at either point because we also know that she was persuaded that it was abuse by a friend. But does anyone really need a consultant to inform them whether or not they are consenting? How would that work as a system for intimacy etiquette? How would you tell a partner who claims she is consenting that she isn't really, she just thinks she is? "Yes, but have you considered the power dynamic, darling; I mean you do look up to me and I do earn more than you do, and plus you have been drinking and you may not be fully informed because I am more of a loser than you think I am. If you knew how much it is possibke that you wouldn't be interested in me at all. I am not entirely convinced under these circumstances that you can be fully consenting." "Well that's disappointing." "Well think how I feel! No wait, don't think how I feel: If you knew how I feel that would be emotional blackmail so it's best you don't know! Imagine I don't care either way just for safety's sake." I think, realistically, if your partner thinks she is consenting you have to assume she is right regardless of what an expert may tell her weeks later!
Yea if he’s said “believe all women” then we should hold him to that I think.
Look how THAT turned out (For him!!!)
don't forget that dark horse really can't afford the bad press, or any bad press honestly
I remember Nerdrotic discussing Gaiman a while before this Vulture article came out. He said a bunch of the comic industry insiders knew about it and were doing their best to try to hide it by silencing anyone wanting to shine a light on it.
i think wes and sparrow said the comic industry knew something was up w him since the 90s but kept quiet about it. wise they'd go more into it.

A company can decide for itself whether they want to continue doing business with someone after allegations like this come out, consumers can decide. Consumers can decide for themselves whether they want to continue to buy material produced by the author or not.
Dark horse, not obligated to continue doing business with Neil Gaiman, if they feel doing so with their business or violate their principles . Dark horse stop doing business with Neil because it’s a Tuesday and mercury is in retrograde if that is the reasoning they want to give.
Neil is likely to be fine considering how much money he has made over the years. I’m suspending my judgment, but I’m probably not going to buy any new Neil Gaiman produced material until I decided how I feel.
Other than that the court can decide how this will play out. I’m not on a jury, and there are plenty of other places to spend my money.
Readers can stop engaging with the work of an author for any reason they desire. Neil has made plenty of money and he is likely to be fine assuming he doesn’t get sued into oblivion.

Actually, you can't. At least not in America.
The reason I think Warren Ellis is mot getting any work even though his allegations aren’t nearly as bad as the ones Gaiman has is that I don’t think any editor at this point trusts him to turn in his work on time. How many late projects did he deliver? A lot. Remember when he blamed the cancellation of new universal: Shockfront on the laptop with the rest of the scripts for that series had to get repaired and when he went back to the store it had suddenly been closed down?
Imagine DECADES of excuses like that, for his entire career, and the truth seems to be “oh, he was addicted to e-thots.”
For their own good, Marvel and DC should never try to sell their Comics in other countries because this planet belongs to Japanese Manga, which are too powerful.
Maybe. But that's in the distant far futrw
How fair is this to Neil? I mean... Marquis DeSade still has *his* work published
Dark Horse don't like a Dark Horse the irony. Needs a new publisher. Maybe something called Black Sheep?
Personally I don't take civil court that serious, which is mostly about money and also the need of evidence isn't as thorough compared to criminal court. When it comes extremely serious accusations like these, I really need police reports and police investigations. No matter how horrible the story may sound, we have seen to many times that horrific stories were made up. The fact that these journalist (often of a particular Third Wave variety) always write their articles with a lot of suggestive phrases like :allegedly, according to etc, I really need it to go through criminal court. If true, I'm sure either him, a witness and/or supposed victims got to have evidence that could be found by the authorities, considering the timeline and amount of accusations.

So you are calling these women liars?
And Destiny reached the end of the page, pausing for a moment before turning to the next page, for there was more to come...
All this crazy people, Gen Z kids, do not understand the difference between art and author!
Well first off this affects my bottom line by like zero. Anasi Boys does not sell at all. In fact I won't be carrying any issues cause nobody is buying it. So no trade is no big deal either. As to the rest, everyone should stop overacting and playing guardians at the moral gates here. Dark Horse doesn't want to do business...fine. But for me I am still going to sell Sandman, 1602, and any other Neil Gaiman products in my store. The man is do his day in court if its coming and we should all assume innocent until proven guilty. Now is it safe to say Mr Gaiman was living lets say and alternative lifestyle? Probably. But the simple fact is women lie. Johnny Depp got torpedo by Disney until we found out just how much bullshit his former wife was spewing. The woman who accused the Duke football players was....lying! So the possibility here that some stuff is being completely made up is not beyond the reality pale. And when someone like Gaiman, who does have money, is concerned let's not be unrealistic about looking to bleed some green out of him for whatever reason may be possible. I will say though the HYPOCRYSY with Gaiman is oozing all over the place here, and Wes said it best when you should not be putting blanket statements out there that you will regret just to get the approval of some people that may or may not matter. Now can we let Warren Ellis work in the industry again and everyone get off their high fucking horse? WTF20.

@Rtombooksart Thank you. Just off the top of my head.
I say BELIEVE ALL MIDGETS!! When someone accuses a midget of stealing a Dos Equis or a Snickers bar we should STAND TALL and DEFEND THE MIDGET!! MIDGET PRIDE!! NO MORE MIDGET OPPRESSION!!
Also BELIEVE ALL DEAD PEOPLE!! Every word they’re saying!! It’s the most educational lesson I learned from “Weekend at Bernie’s” I and II!
And what if Gaiman IS guilty of all the s**t he allegedly did? You might change your tune if and when that happens!!
i hope DC comics doesn't remove his content. I still haven't collected Sandman
Thats a good point. The companies shouldnt stop publishing his work till the case is over. What if he is proven innocent?
And what if he is proven GUILTY? What will you🫵 say, then, hm????
@MatthewLoh-ru1mw if he is guilty than he deserves whatever he gets. If he is innocent what will you say?
Well said.
Let's see that from a business perspective. There are buyers, that's us, we are customers. There is a deal: we buy books and a substantial part our money flows into the pockets of the author. And there is advertizing: this particular author chose to advertize and push his books with a very public, very specific image of himself. This image was obviously a deliberate betrayal of the customers to sell more books and funnel more customers. And to lure victims, but that's beside the point.
If businesses decide to sell things with an image they are responsible for that. If this image is so blatantly a lie, it has to be dismanteled or others will fall for it, too. What that means to the business of this person and everybody else involved is not the problem of the betrayed customers. Nobody threatens his life, it's just business.
Nobody has to prove anything, he already did that all by himself. His statements are proof that the image he used to become famous and rich is a huge fake.
I don't care if this is normal nowadays. It is because nobody cares, nobody can do anything. But maybe we can. I am protecting my rights as a customer. If I buy fake products I at least try to warn others of the seller wherever he reaches his customers.
I feel like these situations you shouldn’t be allowed to fire or “cancel” people before facts are confirmed. I understand the company standpoint of bad press but if this all blows over and it comes out that he didn’t do anything illegal, then his career is still fucked, and for no legitimate reason. I don’t personally don’t read anything from him or have any side to this but I’m tired of seeing people lose their career on allegations. It’s so easy for someone to “change their mind” when things don’t go their way and say they were assaulted. All that said he very well may have done everything that he’s been accused of and in that case absolutely he should feel the full extent of the consequences for those things.
There are plenty of convicted criminals that are still published authors. How does what the author has done in other spheres of life change the work?
He is still proof it isn't always good 2 have the creator on the adaptation. As he has been busy trashing Sandman comics so much with the tv show.
Woopie goldberg have been good friends with p creepy, weinstein, etc. She likes hanging out with creeps.
I thought this was going to be about Bret Weinstein
He may be what people say he is and yet he may be not . The fact that it started on a podcast, it’s something to take it with a grain of salt .
But canceling someone’s work is wrong. To be fair contracts should be terminated on a fair base like a bad employee or something but not based on something nobody really knows for sure.
Yes, technically you’re supposed to believe the victims. The problem is that there are some people pretending to be victims, sabotaging the real S.A victims in general, so instead of jumping into any conclusions, I can only watch and wait for the result but I definitely don’t want to lose the chance to at least see Sandman season 2 and I want to read more from Neil because if we keep canceling authors left and right, how do people expect future generations read books? Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes and whoever commits a crime should be punished accordingly but people need to separate the waters.
I have loved everything of Neil Gaimans that I have read, his works are prominent on my shelves. His Sandman TV series I found bloody awful.
I didn't like any of his books I read and didn't keep them. Three. The first went into the bin. Not the best writer I've come across. And currently riding on the back of Terry Pratchett may he rest in peace.
No matter what, without either parties having not step one foot in court and having the truth exposed none of these companies should take a position.
They should just say that they’re going to let the courts decide what happens make their decisions after that.

@AL-ws5yi yes
What have these people accusing him contributed to society? Are we going to pretend everyone's life is worth the same? I don't think we should hold great, productive creatives to the same standards as everyday normal people. There seems to be some link between extreme circumstances, mental trauma even, and great creative works. They are like shaman who go to the edges of the human experience and report back their findings. We consume these works but then when we find out how the sausage is made, we cast the creators out.
If we're going to judge him for these behaviors, we have to also judge him for the art he produced and add that into the equation. And when we do so, on balance, I feel like he still comes out ahead.
What have they contributed to society?? I’M CONFIDENT THEY’VE RECYCLED REGULARLY!!
