- Welcome Gardeners! Today I wanted to focus on some sightlines or viewpoints in the garden. Every morning I sit in my rocking chair and drink my coffee and want to make sure the view from that chair to the garden is 💯 Enjoy!

I am an old gardener. Every window in our house must have a beautiful view. That is always my goal. We moved to north Florida for our final home. I am enjoying every minute in our new yard creating our views. Great job Janey
I just in love with that Checkered board walkway. It's looking good. Happy Thursday everyone
Janey, I too, love orange blooms! Consider orange cannas, lantana, Bird of Paradise, Esperanza. They are substantial plants that will help fill in spaces. Keep up the good work with your planting partner, Jason!
Hi Janey and Jason and DWPR team and fans!
Great video, as always!
Regarding the heat, I recommend a wet cotton neckerchief, comfortably tied, around the neck. Try it on Monty and you will see for yourself his reaction to this simple fix to cool the blood stream, like internal air-conditioning.
You may have to wet the neckerchief every couple of hours, more or less, but that's easy enough to do, for the near instant relief it brings. Overheating is truly stressful to the body.
Happy Summer Everyone!
Great suggestion! An oldie, but certainly a goodie. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I remember my parents doing that in the summer of ‘76 heatwave in England.
100 degrees in the shade. Record temp for back then & that part of the world. Janey & Jason have months of heat.
Time to set up the hot tub, unheated for cooling off too.
Not only we all get faster with time but now you have a big helper
Love the development of your garden. On top of that I really enjoy the play of light and shadows caused by structures
Looks great! You will love sitting on your porch looking at your beautiful garden! It is really coming along!
Orange landscape roses would be beautiful. PW also has a beautiful orange quince.
I'm amazed that you can plant in the heat of the day... it's so hot here that I have to plant evening or early morning the sun burns up alot of new plantings.
Great work Janie, Jason & Monty. The garden is looking superb. 🥰
Monty is the supervisor!!
Those plant choices are gorgeous. I would definitely add the creeping Jenny
Welcome back home to your garden! I watch several gardeners on RUclips, but you and Jim Putnam are my favorites 💚. Maybe you can do what he does and add some plants with chartreuse foliage…I think those would show up from a distance, and they would look nice with purple!
Yes!! I was thinking some breath of heaven there!
Coleonema "Sunset Gold" is the chartreuse breath of heaven that would really "pop" things!
Can you plant barberry in your area? Proven Winners has a noninvasive barberry called Sunjoy Neo. The stunning orange color makes it look like a campfire in my garden 🔥!! Looks amazing paired with purple and chartreuse. Your garden is looking gorgeous!
Put a funky bright colored bench with lots of flowers all the way in the back. just for some interest. maybe. a cool colored bicycle.
Nice ideas!!
Love the artichokes! Thank you for showing it - you panned past it earlier in the video & I was disappointed not to see how it was doing - but you had my back! lol. Mine didn't sprout so I don't have any this year - shooting for next year! lol. I think if you get an obelisk you really like behing the rose you pointed out - it will be beautiful (hopefully not expensive, though). Your whole garden is looking fantastic - just think how short of a time it has been - your association with Proven Winners helps greatly,😉 but it's your vision and sweat - great job, so glad we get to come along!
The artichokes add such an architectural element to the space.
Hi Janey,
Your orchard is looking SO beautiful! I love all the colors and am amazed at the changes you've made in such a short time.
I think you're doing well with the various full-grown heights; it just takes time for the height to appear. Just a thought: more lemon coral sedum along the pathways could make the overall orchard garden look more cohesive. I can't believe I'm suggesting this because I really didn't love it until I saw it next to blue-green and purple in your garden.🙂
I think it would be gorgeous to repeat the kniphofia on the left side of the tree. Look forward to seeing more fill in. Sure is looking great!
Hi, Janey: A suggestion for you. In front of the Oak Leaf Hydrangea, why not add a compact blue spruce plant that stays short, so you can still see the Oak Leaf? It would add another color to this area and incorporate a different texture. I think it would look beautiful. Also, just wanted to mention that my husband built for me one of those nursery tables on wheels. It comes in quite handy for storing my plants and for watering and grooming, and it also allows me to wheel it into the sun and shade as needed. He used the instructions from Garden Answer, but we used 4 wheels instead of 2, as it is very heavy. It might be a great project for Jason and be a nice addition to your garden. 😀😀🌸🌸
Hi Janet! Monty needs a kiddie pool.
The zig zag planter looks so good!
Im zone 6b southeast PA and Orange Butterfly Weed is a native for us. Absolutely gorgeous in the garden, it practically glows. Plus the butterflies love it 🦋
Everything looks so beautiful. You have created such a full amazing garden in such a small amount of time!
I LOVE LOVE Purple!!! 😊
Janey and Jason
Everything is looking so good! I agree that some orange lantana would be great in your garden. I can’t get over how beautiful your Zigzag is this year! I’m glad the glue worked on your paver area… it looks great! I totally get getting out in the garden early as I’m in Redding and it was 105 here yesterday 🥵
Oh Janey! looks beautiful! love all of the colors, I to have a site line out of my kitchen window. my back yard, which buttes up to the woods, so kind of dark. and shady! zone 5. putting in lots of hostas, coral bells, ferns, astilbe etc.etc hahaha.lots of bright colors. I vote for the Helen von Stine for your new area. Love your gardens! Genie :)
All the purple look stunning 🤩 Orange and yellow are great pops!
I caught myself rocking with you when you were on that chair 😂 careful ppl might get dizzy 😵💫 😂
Have you considered blanket flowers (Gaillardia) for your Best of the West garden? They have a very long bloom season and attract native bees. When the bees are out and it's a cool morning, you can find them sleeping on the flowers.
Everything is coming along so nicely and filling itself out beautifully. 🪴
Pincushion proteas love hot and dry conditions and there are some stunning bright orange varieties! There are also winter-flowering species of kniphofia
Proteas want a lighter, very well-draining soil.
Berms around the front part of your garden, randomly placed would be aesthetically pleasing, with a boulder here and there.
Here's a few ideas that might be somewhat cost effective, but have a ton of aesthetic appeal:
1. Transform the driveway from blacktop to gravel.
2. Have a "faux" gazebo built to cover the gas tank, but will still allow access to workers.
3. Plant some shade trees in the center section, but make sure they're not the kind which develop a root system which could damage your infrastructure.
Those are great ideas. She mentioned redoing the drive but it was too cost prohibitive at this time. But I believe she has a plan for it in a few years.
You can't build or cover a propane tank 10 ft distance from any structure, it is a regulation.
@kater8730 That propane tank might've been a deal breaker for me unless the price of the house reflected its removal to another area of the property.
Janey how about building some of the pointed trellis for the roses to give some height out in the garden
Wow Janey yr z planters are looking amazing !!!
I suggest putting some creeping Jenny dotted around the cobalt verbena and artichokes. It will look stunning and break up the purples.
Chartreuse always looks good.
I have a gorgeous orange coneflower !!!! Love em🧡
Can’t wait to see your June garden tour! Everything looks so good :)
Orange daylilies would be lovely!
I love the area with the Kniphofia, it's stunning.
I’m in love with orange also. There are so many beautiful shades of orange cone flowers lately it’s hard to pick just one shade.
Have you thought about Tithonia for orange and height? Pollinators and hummingbirds love it too.
Looking good! Take care of yourself. I'm thinking of orange colored Esperanza.
Thank you for sharing another great video!
A few Natives with orange blooms
-Leucospermum Tango
-Lion's Tail Leonotis leonurus
-Mimulus aurantiacus ‘Pumpkin’
-Zauschneria californica 'Glasnevin,' commonly known as California Fuchsia 'Glasnevin
-Bells of Fire Tecoma
Side note Manzanita with its gorgeous bark, drought and heat tolerant
Blue plumbago… you have the room for this shrub!
Add some small wispy grasses. The texture would be wonderful.🌾
Add some Orange Agastache, bee balm or wallflowers. Or you could always go with California poppies too.
Agastache!!! And the fragrance!!!
I planted orange Crossandra this year and I’m loving it!
Going to look fantastic ❤️
You’ll be glad that you have a lot of purple and blue as the summer goes on, because they are cooling colors. Everything you do is just beautiful!
I don't think you can have too many purple flowers because it is a cool color which seems appropriate for our hot climate. Add in oranges and yellows for accents. When I get hot working in the yard I sometimes hose myself down with water, wait a few minutes and then I can work a little longer.
EVERYTHING looks FANTASTIC! I love purple so I never think there’s too much purple!💜💜🌺🌸💐🌳
Vermillionaire Cuphea is wonderful orange hummingbird attractor. Evergreen 3x3 blooms spring, summer and fall. Tacoma comes in pretty orange and Lydia is bright yellow. All would be good additions.
Cuphea may not be able to take that heat.
@@joycerichardson1810 I live in Fresno. The worst heat, believe me. 🥵
Your zigzag planter looks amazing. Can't believe how far you and Jason have come with your garden design in such a short time. Love that Jason has joined full time.
I'm wondering if you could do a Montag video of your best for the west garden from start until now. I'm shocked at how quickly it's transformed.
Butterfly weed would look fabulous for your orange accent, and it will attract Monarchs!
CA native milkweed is a non-orange shade
@@lrogers707 😟
Came here to suggest this as well.
You need to plant something tall and orange and the bar background of that new area. you need that bright fuchsia pink very low growing plant in the front so it will mimic first section that you love so much.
Orange, since it is a complementary color to the purples, will mimic and help light up your new plant area. your pale lavender pinky Yarrow color is just going to say into the background, especially next to all that silver color of the artichokes and cartoons.
Might also consider bringing some more of the lemon coral sedum along the inside edges of the path
what about some orange coneflowers? I just bought one called Orange Fascinator at my local nursery
That zig zag planter..oh my swoon! Your garden is looking so beautiful! Hugs & thanks for sharing!!
I just love how the zig zag has turned out
The garden is really looking beautiful. Question: Do you intend to repeat any of the gorgeous combinations you’ve already planted for continuity?
Good point!
Janey, your garden really has come a long way in a very short amount of time! Well done ❤
Fantastic work
I haven't planted yarrow in years, I had it planted at my old property and I guess I forgot how pretty it is. I got some from my nursery back in April. They had 1 pot of Proven Winners left over from last year and I got it planted after our last frost in April. WOW it is looking amazing! I will be adding more! Stay hydrated and enjoy your garden Janey!
The garden looks fabulous. Please put a water for you to drink in your wagon! I live in Texas so am feeling your heat also. Hydrate hydrate hydrate.
What about a black or concrete bench under the tree ?
Yes! Wouldn’t a bench be perfect? Great idea!
❤ OH my goodness...loved your program today and everything starting to look beautiful 😍🎉🎉🎉❤
Love like always
Janey, how about some ‘At Last’ Roses??? That peachy orange color, plus the height…. Those would look lovely!! And how pretty it’ll be when you have the orange of your ORANGES! 😊
Monty is such a good dog. I am a dog and ALL animal lover, but Goldens are one of my favorites. I love your gravel glue. Do you have to reapply that in several years? Will it make it easier to blow off any twigs that might collect on top of it during the year?
Lions Tail or Lions Ear… is a wonderful orange bloomer that thrives in the heat.
Leonotis leonurus
Yes! Tall and orange!!
Love your garden and your channel. I get so May ideas from you on what to plant in my yard. Question where are your rocking chairs from?
Everything is beautiful! One thing I just noticed (because I struggle with it) is you don't have enough evergreen structure for the Winter. I'm in the hot dry West too and realized there is a whole bunch of different shapes of junipers that work great instead of boxwood. I always fill my gardens with roses, grasses and perennials, then in the Winter or early spring there's nothing to look at, but bare branches.
And lavender cut into ball shapes
Good point!
I ordered some orange St. John’s chamomile from Annie’s annuals. I went on vacation and sadly they didn’t make it but take a look. It may work for you.
Janey - do you save your plant tags somewhere in case you need to look back on the plant details? Or do you tuck the tag into the hole? (I can’t tell watching you plant.) Or do you keep a master garden plan somewhere to indicate what’s planted where? I’m always curious how others keep track of their plantings.
Your yard has already done a 180. It is looking great. And I love purple! Can’t have too much purple. And white or pink shows off purple wonderfully. Keep going and taking breaks is a must. I live in FL and I always say someone left the door to Hell open again. 🥵🥵🥵
Zinnia, Zahara Sunburst for bright orange, yellow/orange (12" x 12")
Your garden is looking beautiful but the o my gosh!! The zig zag plante and hanging baskets are amazing. ❤
Janey you made me so happy today it’s so nice to see another youtube gardener in love with orange in the garden it is my favorite. Here is a recommendation for you since you like orange and the firefly peach -try the Terracotta Yarrow gorgeous orange. I think it would look gorgeous with the Firefly I am putting them together in my garden.
I love your plant selections. When you pick one for “Best of the West”, does the plant handle humidity well, too, or is it focused more on hot & dry?
Its looking so good! I would suggest something red? Tall, I am not sure about the best of the west selection as I live in Michigan, lol so have very different conditions than you 😊. Good luck everything is just getting SO beautiful! And isnt it wonderful when our hubbies are garden nerds like us?
Wow everything looks amazing! Love the color combinations.
Try Leonotis for some orange , also Alstromeria Indian Summer. David Austin Rose 'Lady Emma Hamilton'. Also many Aloes bloom orange-little to no water needed . Many are winter blooming .
You must have the same garden as I do!!! I have Lady Emma Hamilton (David Austin rose) and Indian Summer alstroemeria..with Agastache "Blue Boa" nearby.
Check out Salvia "African Sky" for a wonderful sky blue delight!
I grow a lot of kangaroo paws, but I'm in San Franciso with great sandy loam where I can plant Australian plants. I am cuckoo for grevilleas!
@@joycerichardson1810 I'm in Napa- lots of Aussies and South Af. plants in my garden-Leucospermums, Leucodendrons, Banksia---along with the others . My Blue Boa only lasted a year-it either got too cold or too hot !
Just a suggestion...do you have any berry bushes? Why not plant some blueberries, raspberry or blackberries in the orchard. 💚 your zigzag planter, the colors look amazing!
Hi Janey, Do you know the Proven Winners Chicklet® Orange Esperanza? I planted one this year and love the orange color. While not hardy in my zone, I hope to winter it over as a house plant. Happy Gardening! Nancy
Hi Janey 🌺 . These plants added a wonderful color to this area .I love blue salvia with yellow lantana and vebena . Janey you can plant the pretty streptosolen jamesonii or agastache raspberry summer or leonotis leonurus for height in front the hydrangea . Have a great day .🌺🌻🌺
Janey, have you ever thought of putting some leucophyllum in your best of the west garden?
Needs some height as well to help with the line of sight, I think.
Janey update on the hot tub please!!!!
Nice one
They look beautiful 🥰🥰
Orange ideas: geums, echinaceae, daylillies, crocosmia, heleniums, iris,... some of them have truly bright orange flowers.
The daylilies would add a new texture with their strappy leaves.
Geums are nice...not all that tall.
Very pretty! What about another bird bath to add height? ❤M
What about orange echinacea? That would look stunning!
Hi Janey and Jason, The garden is coming along. Love the cobalt superbena. What about planting some shrubs?
It's going to be more beautiful after every planting. It's raining cats and dogs here in Niagara Falls New York and I have to go out in to work, UGH
Everything is looking fantastic! Do you have a link for the rocking chairs? 🌻
Looks amazing!
Welcome home!😊 Big old Huggicates!😊
The garden is doing well. 🙂 However, I really miss the color red, such as red petunias, red or brick red geraniums, etc... Keep up the good work
will you share where your mother's day gift/rocking chairs are from? I saw Robbie's also but can't find links 8) thank you
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I think you've come a long way from just Bubblegum petunias Janey! Bonny
Sure hope so!!! 😂
Dear Janey - Can you please let us know if your cobalt superbena has a scent? I bought some PW suberbena in this color years ago but it had a different name and it smells like candy! I'd love to know if yours does so I can buy more. You guys rock!
