Yeah sort of. We went more natural and instead of changing the clothing to having padding and bustles again, people got fake breasts and bbls. But we're going natural again
slim vs curvy silhouettes have bounced back and forth throughout this and the last century. growing up and seeing the voluptuous figures of the 90's vs the waifish Y2k looks of the 00's comes to mind.
The lingerie or “handkerchief” dress has always been my dream wedding dress! I’m 64, about to be married for the second time … maybe another 40 years !
Mine, too. Every time I see a somewhat more high end 'boho dress' (which can be quite similar in style), I immediately picture myself getting married in it. I find them prettier than most of the 'over the top' wedding dresses.
The feathers on th Merry Widow hat directly led to the formation of the Audubon society. Feathers were popular on hats and they got more and more elaborate eventually having taxidermied wings and even whole birds as decoration. Some birds, like the Snowy Egret were nearly hunted to extinction for their feathers. So two women, Harriet Hemenway and Minna B. Hall, influenced those around them to make the hats unfashionable and formed the Audubon Society.
I always wish for a resurgence of pre 1920 dresses, but I'd also love a dress just like the silk 1920s pull over. Anything non synthetic, and feminine would be fantastic now that summer's are so unbearably hot.
Look for a 'white boho dress' online. A lot are quite similar in style to the first dress she showed. You'll have to sort through a lot of polyester or mixed fiber ones, of course, but cotton ones do exist in a still affordable price range. Even with long sleeves and really pretty lace or button details. I do love this style as well. Looks so pretty and feminine, but it's also comfortable to wear and keeps your arms and legs protected from the sun. (Well, apparently depending on where you live, thin, white fabric is not enough UV protection. But here in Germany it's more than sufficient, luckily).
It was so interesting to see how much changed in just 10 years! I think we tend to think of design trends from the past as lasting for longer (likely due to their cultural relevance so many years on), yet see how much has changed in our lifetimes alone and don't think twice about it! We see the changing trends of our times as a marker of the quick-paced and everchanging era that we live in, yet life probably felt just as fast-paced to people centuries ago and brought about immense changes with every decade.
I agree. I thought the same thing. But we've had a lot of technological and cultural shifts too. And ours have more or less stayed the same now for the past sixty years or so with variations.
Thanks so much for doing this. I love seeing all the different eras on the same person. The fashions are beautiful, and so are you! This is not e actly what you do since there's no fabric involved, but I'd love to hear about & see the jewelry that was worn with the outfits of different eras. I love vintage & estate jewelry. Thanks again for the fascinating content you create. ❤
I've only known a merry widow as a bustier....another term for a longline bra. I've been doing historical clothes for 30yrs....learn something new everyday!
My Grandfather was born in 1919, and my Grandmother in 1923, I didn't get to ask as many questions as I have now, so I come here for the fashion bits lol. Thank you ✌️
The “super slim silhouettes of the mid 1910’s”, it sounds like, came into fashion before WWI; I have always thought that dramatic fashion transition occurred because of the probable “belt-tightening” measures brought on as a result of WWI, not before it. Thank you for the educational elements of your artform, as well as the obvious visual beauty!❤️
Ngl i hope we get a resurgence in shape making garments like eg mod 60s dresses and like flared pants which we are in rn, the rise of people like simone rocha and rick owens do seem to be promising this trend. Cuz its less toxic then our current, body shapes the clothes trend and less shapewear like our bodycon dresses since it does allow for all body types to have the same general look and shape, people who are bigger, or dont fit the beauty standard even if smaller, can also enjoy more shape based fashions like eg skinny jeans lol. I love the slimmer styles tho lol.
I like any outfit that emphasizes the waist. Lol, it's a pride of mine, whereas a slip-on dress like the 1920s one might overemphasize my hips instead. It's very interesting to see how fashions change.
I love your videos! May I ask where you acquired the slippers/shoes you wore at the beginning (1910) of this video? I am quite ill and they look really pretty, girlie yet warm. You make some wonderful videos. I am I to understand you make many of these gorgeous clothes?
it’s so interesting to see the bustles and padding slowly fade away into more “natural” shapes which is what we’ve (more or less) stuck with!

@@spookymu1deryeah but we’re not creating quite literal junk in the trunk to be worn under your dress
@@markhaus you've clearly never heard of the BBL lol
@@spookymu1der I would prefer to use pads on skin instead silicon under skin
That 1905 dress...
Very _Picnic at Hanging Rock._
@@ViolettaD1485 Oh yes, watched that movie last night...! Great and mysteriouse movie!!
My choice of the three to be sure.
ikr
@@ViolettaD1485i live there!
Can you imagine being in your teens in 1890??? The massive shift after your whole three generations before you saw a relatively similar silhouette
I especially admire the fasion in footwear! Nature themed, and quite reasonable. The style has been consistant nearly 300 yrs! 😅😅❤❤❤

And congratulations to your 'approaching nuptials' 😉
Congrats ma’am!!❤❤❤
Congratulations! How was your wedding? ❤
if you sew there are historically accurate patterns out there to make the look!
I just finished watching all seasons of Downton Abbey, and I really loved watching the fashions change from 1914 to 1925.
I absolutely love the grey and burgundy dress from 1910s gorgeous
So good too see some casual daywear from the 20s!

Its amazing how quickly styles shifted to less and less layers and volume.
Sa u katandisen ne 2 gisht lart e ne 2 gisht posht
The pink belt is so cute. The last little number with the hat is just perfect. All the dresses are lovely.
Just lovely! All 3!😊🎉
As an Australian, I'm getting real "Picnic at Hanging Rock" vibes with the first dress ❤
All of these dresses beat what we consider "fashion" today.
So classy and elegant 🙌
Thank you for sharing.
I definitely would have liked to been wearing 1910 and 20’s fashion! Beautiful dresses!

This is fascinating and beautifully done. Thank you so much. ❤
The second dress... Mine, please. 😍
the 1905 dress reminds me of what mary poppins wears when they go into bert’s chalk drawing

I LOVE the 1905 dress!!!
Wow. I always thought that the merry widow was an undergarment with the bra and corset in one piece with the garters attached.

Can you do a video about how you do your research, particularly how you find out less well-known facts?
Agreed

Thank you.

The biggest change is the reduction in the weight of the costumes. Kudos to the pioneers who spoke up.

So pretty! What were most people wearing about this time? These things appear to be on the higher end, and wondering what everyone else was wearing.
1905 is so me. 😩 take me back

My favorite is In 1905 love all of it great job

I prefer the curvy dresses. That first dress looked like you were wearing air! ❤
I’ve been sewing for forty plus years. I’m so impressed by your talent. I would love to know more about how you use your skills.

My step grandma is 105 and she still goes to the salon once a week.
Das schönste ist der Stuhl im Hintergrund.
Love the 1920s dress - would you mind sharing where you got that?
Genuine question (sorry if I’m wrong): Isn’t your 1910s dress a little too see-through for the time?
I wanna wear thst 1905 dress so bad
I like the 1920s one best.
So pretty
Loving it❤

I love all of these! But, for the 1920s day dress, did you make it? And is the hat a vintage find or did you make that too??
Love it
Ok, please tell me🙏🏻did you made all of the outfits your self? And can you show how you made them?
It's called "fashion" when you wear it ❤
Someday someone like you will be showing videos in 1980s fashion 😅
