- The Israeli military said it has killed five more militants in the operation being carried out in the West Bank early Thursday which included a well-known local commander. There was no immediate Palestinian confirmation of the death of Mohammed Jaber, known as Abu Shujaa, a commander in the Islamic Jihad militant group in the Nur Shams refugee camp on the outskirts of the city of Tulkarem. There is no ‘West Bank’ and it is certainly not “occupied”. Judea and Samaria were liberated in 1967 in a war started by Egypt and Jordan. It is home to hundreds of thousands of Israelis.

Why does the announcer introducing this item refer to the "West Bank" as "the occupied West Bank"? Occupied from which country? Jordan illegally occupied it from 1948 to 1967 (the UN GA voted to partition the territory to create an Arab state, which the Arab countries at the time rejected) and, before that, it was part of British mandated "Palestine". There has never been an independent soverign entity called "Palestine", and the correct legal status of the "West Bank" is as "disputed territory", given the competing claims on the territory in existence.
