- Donald Trump’s campaign was warned about not taking photographs before an altercation at Arlington National Cemetery during a wreath-laying ceremony earlier this week to honor service members killed in the Afghanistan War withdrawal, a defense official told The Associated Press on Wednesday.
The official spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter concerning Monday’s events. It came a day after NPR reported, citing a source with knowledge of the incident, that two Trump campaign staff members “verbally abused and pushed” aside a cemetery official who tried to stop them from filming and photographing in Section 60, the burial site for military personnel killed while fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The defense official told the AP that the Trump campaign was warned about not taking photographs in Section 60 before their arrival and the altercation. Trump was at Arlington on Monday at the invitation of some of the families of the 13 service members who were killed in the Kabul airport bombing exactly three years prior.
“Federal law prohibits political campaign or election-related activities within Army National Military Cemeteries, to include photographers, content creators or any other persons attending for purposes, or in direct support of a partisan political candidate’s campaign,” the cemetery officials’ statement said. “Arlington National Cemetery reinforced and widely shared this law and its prohibitions with all participants. We can confirm there was an incident, and a report was filed.”
Trump’s spokesperson Steven Cheung said the Republican presidential candidate’s team was granted access to have a photographer. He contested the allegation that a campaign staffer pushed a cemetery official.

If the families knew the real terms of the Afghanistan withdrawal that the Trump Admin. negotiated with the Taliban including troop drawdowns to dangerously low levels before exiting, they'd call for his head instead of inviting him.

Trump brought campaign photog/videographers against instructions, behaved crassly at the graves, included graves of unrelated deceased veteran in the photos (and that veterans family are understandably upset),
AND the campaign has now edited footage, added voice over and graphics, and POSTED IT.
Which means they went against both the letter and the spirit of the relevant policies and laws.

Not one person in America should be remotely surprised that this incident happened during Trump's visit to a veteran cementary. This man has absolutely no regard for military service, and certainly not those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. That video of his grave-side presence ended up in a campaign ad within 24 hours is evidence that not only was the recordng planned in advance, his invitation was accepted (if not also coerced) with sole purpose of seizing the opportunity to personally benefit from it. This man is even unfit to be human.
Pres. Trump was ASKED by one of the Gold Star Families to do the picture... He wasn't even NEAR DC when the call came in for him to lay this wreath with the GS Families... He rerouted SS, etc. so he could accommodate the Families. Blame his 'campaign people' if you want to... As a Veteran, seeingTrump standing by the tombstone of a fallen soldier smiling and holding thumbs-up made my stomach turn. Trump evaded the draft, called fallen soldiers, "suckers and losers" and said that the Medal of Honor was not as important as the Medal of Freedom that he awarded to his biggest donor. These comments by a former President bring tears of shame for a Country that is denigrated by such a man.

Theres a difference between a sitting president placing a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, in an actual solemn ceremony, and showing up at the cemetary to spew the same talking points he does whenever he's in campaign mode. I havent listened to or read Trump's complete comments at the alledged "solemn ceremony" yet, but if he brought up his opponents or his campaign he broke the rules. Did he break the Law? My best understanding based on this report; I'm not a lawyer. Apparently, no LEO personally witnessed any alleged criminal act by Trump campaign workers. Instead, a non-LEO Arlington employee physically laid hands on one or more US citizens. Does anyone allege the taking of unauthorized pics is a felony? Extremely doubtful, we're talking about campaign employees shooting pics of one or more burial sites. My best understanding is that a non-LEO is only authorized to employee physical restraint in the case of a felony and not a misdemeanor. If a judicial source determines there was no alleged felony, the government attorney may press charges against any non-LEO employing illegal physical force. Professionals train LEOs in the proper and improper use of physical force and restraint.
If a non-LEO Arlington employee witnessed an alleged crime, what was the right and proper action if not physical assault? Simple: call a LEO. I can't imagine an Arlington LEO response longer than 5 minutes, more likely 2 minutes.
While waiting for a LEO the non-LEO can take pics of the alleged criminal activity. The LEO investigates the alleged crimes, interviews, documents evidence and forwards their investigation upstream. The Trump campaigners could/might face criminal charges and a judge could force them to submit all copies of illegal pics.
Instead, we have this current mess. If the non-LEO stopped the alleged crime from taking place, then the Trump campaigners did not commit the alleged picture crime. Instead, the Arlington non-LEO employee appears to have committed a physical force crime of assault and battery. Even if the Trump campaigners risk future criminal charge, the government's crime seems more serious and weakens any government case against the Trump campaigners.
IMO, because of mutual potential risk, the government does nothing with this and in two days it's all forgotten. The non-LEO Arlington employee's supervisor tells him/her the next time he/she employs unnecessary physical force, he/she should expect a month-long unpaid vacation and points against promotion.
But it.wont be forgotten because the mob will use it for months to come as fodder to smear Trump some more.
