Blueberries are native to North America. The European cousins to blueberries, were not farmed, as they were not really viable as food. The other cousin, the Bilberry, aka Whortleberry. was used for medicinal purposes, and sometimes food. but significantly less then other fruits. as they too were not nearly as productive as North American Blueberries. Strawberry is a mixed bag. Euro strawberries were cultivated and a major fruit. however, the native species was much smaller, literally, the wild woodland strawberry.. the modern strawberry is a cross bred of two North American species. from virginia, and chile. this was done in France in 1700s.
World traveler's back. Hope it was a good trip!
