    American Psycho 2, probably the worst sequel ever made, one that manages to ruin the Patrick Bateman character in the first 5 minuets.

    Total miscasting for the character. I like Mila but I don't think she fits "psychotic serial killer who can outwit Patrick Bateman" she was also too early in her career to be truly great for the role.

    I thought the whole point of the original was that Patrick had some mental disorder where he couldn't tell life from fantasy and all his kills were in his head or something

    • @citizenvulpes4562
      @citizenvulpes4562 2 месяца назад +438

      No that was not the point of the original at all.
      The point of the original is that he's a psycho killer, and is obviously so, but everyone around him is so caught up in their own self-image that they don't notice the obvious signs that he's a killer, and some will even cover up for him to keep their own self-image safe. Such as the land lord, she cleaned up the entire building and didn't report any killings because if people find out people were murdered in her building the property value would go down.
      The whole point is that people are so caught up in keeping up an image that they don't notice an actual psycho among them.
      A theme in the movie/book is Patrick questioning his own sanity amongst people that are JUST LIKE HIM, the movie/book is supposed to make you question if Patrick is truly the only "American Psycho" or if he's just another out of a whole bucket.

    I can't take Mila seriously in the movie when her voice sounds like something you'd hear in a sitcom. She sounds like Meg from Family Guy, or Velma. Or more accurately, she sounds like someone who'd feature in the Scary Movie series.

      @@yeetus_the_feetus4858Could be in a lot of cases, i met Gymbros who took him way too seriously. in the Book, Tylers speeches about "society" and men are mostly just said by the Space Monkeys, and the Not-Tyler Part of the Protagonist is like "This is Tyler word for word. what a bunch of unthinking Phrase machines". There is also an epilougue from the author in the version i had where he makes fun of people changing their profile picture to Tyler Durden (on myspace back then) when the movie came out. I like some ideas of the story, too. But both protagonist are totally overreacting and in a lot of cases just uncaring and cruel

    I don't think I'll ever understand the terms used by the American education system. What exactly is a "freshman" or "sophomore" aside from a first-year/second-year student? Like, where did those terms originate from and why did they stick in US schools? The rest of the world just calls them first-years, because that's what they are, no need for a fancy label.

    • @noelyanes2455
      @noelyanes2455 Месяц назад +8

      They’re both archaic terms that were used in Europe. The use of the term “freshman” dates back to the 16th century and sophomore is a combination of the Greek “Sophos” which means wise and “moros” which means fool. Together it is intended to imply the students who are wise in their second year but foolish in comparison to upperclassmen.

    I'm convinced this movie was originally written as a comedy, and I don't mean that as a bad thing. It literally seems structured as a dark comedic film that got an inappropriately fitting title slapped onto it and had it not, I think it would've done better and be remembered more fondly by some. I'm not saying it's brilliant or anything, I just think it comes across more comedic than anything else to the point that it appears intentionally made that way. Well, at least to me it does.

    There are no more barriers to cross. All I have in common with the uncontrollable and the insane, the vicious and the evil, all the mayhem I have caused and my utter indifference toward it I have now surpassed. My pain is constant and sharp, and I do not hope for a better world for anyone. In fact, I want my pain to be inflicted on others. I want no one to escape. But even after admitting this, there is no catharsis; my punishment continues to elude me, and I gain no deeper knowledge of myself. No new knowledge can be extracted from my telling. This confession has meant nothing. (means nothing to these people)

    You know, this movie is just a spit in the face to American Psycho. Also, Patrick is kind of just..out of character. He literally wouldn't do this. He would either A, leave the murder to the second date when they're alone, or B, kill the kid.
