Hiking Cape Split with the Original Donnie Wanders - my Dad!

In this video I'm joined by my father, Donnie Wanders Sr., for a 14 km hike to Cape Split. Cape Spilt is one of the most impressive geological features Nova Scotia has to offer, so the 14 km hike is well worth the time and effort. We stopped at Big Cove Look-Off where eagle-eyed Donnie Sr. spotted a cave in the cliffs. When we reached the Split, we had a delicious bagged lunch made by my Mum, and a hot cup of coffee before exploring the sights. We saw lots of other hikers and dogs... and even an adventurous kitty cat who made the trek with her family!
This trail used to be an out-and-back, but a few years ago it was converted to a loop. Overall, this trail is rated moderate to difficult because of the 14 km distance. Trail conditions are easy with gentle rolling hills and no big elevation gains or losses. This hike took us just over 5 hours to complete including our leisurely lunch, exploring the Split, and a few short breaks along the way.
I want to send a heartfelt thank you to my father for joining me on this hike and for his lovely commentary along the way. He instilled in me a love of the outdoors, so without him none of my wanderings would be possible. Big thanks to my mother too, for making our delicious egg sandwiches and for always trying to overfeed us!
