There are multiple types of trauma plates for soft armor ranging from uhmwpe, more soft armor, steel, fiberglass composite, etc. They go in front of your soft armor, not behind. The only trauma plates/soft armor that goes behind is for steel rifle armor or other rifle armor of varying materials. Your welcome to check with any manufacturer to verify this.

Overall the soft armor took A LOT MORE of a beating than I ever guessed it would! Now true...as other commenters have stated, while stopping the bullet is one thing, it does not mean that serious internal damage was avoided. And if anything, this video illustrates the importance of deformation of body armor. It is possible to stop the round, but still die of trauma. But hey, at least the bullets were stopped, and that gives you a fighting chance at survival and recovery.
I was most surprised that the AKM didn't penetrate, being the third weapon fired against that IIIA plate. The M14 and SVD were stopped, but here again the inward deformity leads me to believe these shots would still incapacitate the target. There was so much damage to the plate that I was convinced the AKM round would pass right through! But nope, that plate stopped it.
By the time you were shooting the lighter stuff - 5.45mm and 5.56mm - I wasn't too terribly surprised that these calibers didn't penetrate. In fact, the M855 penetration was a bit unexpected at that point. However, the plate was losing its structure integrity. That makes me wonder if the M855 had been the first or second round fired, would it have penetrated? Maybe. Maybe not.
The level III+ did a helluva job in my estimate. You fired six rounds into a 3" x 6" pattern! One round penetrated? I'm amazed that three or more didn't penetrate. Body armor needs to maintain its structural integrity to perform. So, that's pretty darn impressive.

Hmm looking at the card board behind the soft armour. I'd say at a minimum you have major blunt force trauma, cracked ribs if not broken. Positive lung/ heart damage from shock wave.

What plate carrier are you sliding those side plates into at 1:10? The ace link quad release side pockets don't go behind the buckles like that carrier in the video. The ace link leaves an open spot behind the buckle un-protected. Thanks!

I went that route for multiple (hit ) reasons. It is heavier, but I'm thinking long term. If it gets that bad there aren't going to be a lot of stores open to buy replacement armor. I can drop that plate on the ground from the roof and it may chip off the anti-spalling compound but it won't break like ceramic.

Wow, interesting field test. Hey Brent, I read an article that said the USMC is thinking about doing away with their tank battalions and a lot of infantry,, WTF?? The article went on to say something like they envision an "Island Hopping" campaign across the Pacific and they don't need all the armor and all the infantry (or words to that effect) well...I've got a library of WW2 books and can show a lot of pictures of Marines advancing eithe rbehind or beside Sherman tanks...They said they don't want to be competing with the Army etc, etc.....I guess someone has forgotten everything they learned in WW2. Any truth to this?

The audience is going to be mostly English speakers so nobody is going to understand a foreign language comment at all. 🤷🏻‍♂️ What's the point?
