- President Carter left The White House on January 20, 1981 after Ronald Reagan was sworn in as President. He returned to a chilly, rainy day in his hometown of Plains, Ga.
As a person I respect Jimmy Carter.
President Carter never forgot where he came from.
My dad voted for Gerald Ford in 1976, I would listen to my dad tell his friends and neighbors “ I don't trust a guy that is always smiling”. Well, that was dad he was from the greatest generation my dad lied about his age to enter WW2. I learned to love Jimmy Carter what a wonderful kind loving man. My dad never lived to see Jimmy Carter lose that election in 1980 daddy died in 1979. I believe dad would of come to my opinion that Jimmy Carter is a great American.
Your post is great. Carter's Presidency is being reassessed in the closing months of his life and he's being seen now as a great man and a great President. The GOP's supporters, who've done so much to sour political discourse in the USA, loathe Carter, even in his dying days. The goodness of the man counts for nothing with these haters, racists, homophobes and misogynists. To decent people, Carter is an inspiration. By the way. Do not write 'would OF'. This isn't English. It's 'would'VE'. Or 'would HAVE'. 'VE' is the shortened version of 'HAVE'. 'HAVE' and 'OF' are words with different meanings.
@@heiltd1286 you know you are right. However, I not that critical that I worry how people type in these forums. It is usually a quick response. That serves no purpose at all. To those that have to be that picky to critique writing in these type of forums usually have other unseen problems themselves. I've also learned you can type one thing and launch it, then notice that isn't what you typed at all. That's why I wouldn't judge writing or grammar in these types of forums.
@@michaeldavis2021 I'm sure I OF issues. I do have a deep respect for the English language and its correct use.
@@heiltd1286 that's wonderful. However, on social media forums is a bit overboard to be correcting grammar. Term papers, blogs, or situations where it would take deep serious thought I could understand. These forums are usually quick responses. I don't think many are concern. I respect your love of the English language. Maybe start a school where you can teach it and you perhaps can get the joy of correcting.
@@michaeldavis2021 I'm not perfect. I wrote 'YOU'RE post'. I've just corrected it. I'm always baffled by folk not getting 'your/ you're' right.....and I've committed the very same error.
I love President Carter!
Same here, Jimmy is my favorite president and superhero.
Just Visited his museum for the first time on Monday and what a great Presidential Museum it is,I even learned more about President Jimmy Carter.

I admire and respect both President Carter and Reagan. They had integrity and genuine characteristics. It's unfortunate, that our current administrator and leader today is astonishingly different. All well, let's see what happens in 2024 thank you all for reading my post! My Best, M.L.
At the time I was 13 when he was defeated,I was too this day torn ,I liked both Ronald Reagan and Jimmy Carter,President Carter was a good man, with good intentions,he just seemed to have really bad luck.He was not phony like most politicians, he went on to help the working poor by starting Habitat for Humanity.I have alot of respect for the President
FORMER US NAVY ENGINEER TURN POLITICIAN..
Such beautiful memories of a precious couple, well loved and respected around the world, especially in south africa.
Amen to that!
I hope he can reach to 100 years old. He's 98 right now, but I think he can do it.
Now that Rosalynn’s passed away, i highly doubt he’ll make it to 100 by this point. He’s most likely not too far behind her.
Marvelous Welcoming for an ex President, All Georgions loyalists very faithfully lucky to have President 39thJimmy Carter
LARGER THAN LIFE THIS MAN IS A PHENOMENA
NOW 97 YEARS OLD HE WILL CONTINUE INSPIRE THE WORLD
WITH HIS HUMBLE INFECTIOUS
ASSURING ENDURING "CARTER SMILE"
Sure there will be another Carter to
Washington
Hey Jimmy go go go
Pres.Carter in December 1977 on TIME magazine banner headlines after six months in office Carter is still smiling today at 97 Jimmy as ever forever smile...smile...smile..smile it pay
Carter has survived two presidents who succeeded him to the White House.
Reagan was the oldest elected president so not much of a surprise he out lived Reagan
All 3 of them Will die old men
@@cameronclark3927 I know that Reagan was older. Bush, however, was a mere three months older than Carter. As Carter is still alive, he could easily survive any of the three surviving former presidents.
Carter may have a chance to survive Donald Trump though
@@gyr0sc0p3 He very well could, and Carter is over 20 years older than trump.
A Good Man!!!!!!!😊
I wish his grandson, Jason Carter, can run for 2020 presidential election
He will!
So he can lose too?
He shouldn’t run his grandad was incompetent a loser and a doormat for Islamic fundamentalist
Two things I noticed. President Carter had a Confederate Flag behind him and wasn't offended. He also got an entire tool set from Sears when the tools were all American made. He got one hell of a good tool set!
That was actually the Georgia state flag, which looked like this at the time: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c5/Flag_of_the_State_of_Georgia_%281956%E2%80%932001%29.svg/1024px-Flag_of_the_State_of_Georgia_%281956%E2%80%932001%29.svg.png

Two facts coming from an Englishman.
1. Carter was not the weak, ineffectual President as portrayed by the GOP's supporters with efficacy and mass media backing. He was actually a great President who was amazingly prescient. That's not to say he didn't err. As Carter enters his last months, there's a radical reassessment of his time in The White House. His Presidency was far more substantive than most people understand. Of course the man himself was always inspiring. Judge a man by the company he keeps; Carter's friends were The Allman Brothers Band, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hunter S Thompson and Bob Dylan.
2. Those tools that Carter got from Sears would've been mostly US manufactured and of premium quality. I work with my hands and demand the best. USA manufactured tools are of superlative quality. Unfortunately many USA tool makers ( not all though of course) offshore manufacturing and this leads to a deterioration of quality. A prime example of this is Visegrip. If you want the best Visegrip now, you're better off looking at eBay and getting 25 yo ones than new, even though they might cost more. The 25yo ones are better and proudly made in Dewitt Nebraska when it was an independent company proud of the quality of its self grip wrenches. Wrenches of a quality Mr Carter would be proud to have in his tool cabinet.
Jimmy Peanut came home, and got a wonderful welcome. It was best for all of us that he did. The 1980 election was the 1st in which I voted for president, and it was Reagan hands down for me. Carter was a good man ethically and was honest, but had no political skills, was indecisive and contradictory, and was altogether too weak to be president. As people have said, he's been our most succesful ex-president. God blesss him
Unfortunately for Lillian Gordy Carter that she died just two years after this was filmed.
Miss Lilian thought jimmy was a good boy a loyal son and an incompetent president
While I certainly disagree with the policies he had, he made his decisions with the best of intentions and integrity...I have zero doubts he did anything to intentionally hurt the country....unlike today, where it's clear our politicians are destroying us.
Such beautiful memories of a precio
I’m putting together a documentary on Plains Ga during the 1976
Would love to include some of this footage towards the end.
Are you one of the people who recorded this?
The economy tanked in the mid-to-late 70's, the energy crisis of 1973 got worse, and the sudden Iranian revolution all led to Jimmy's political downfall. Also, Volker jacked up the interest rates up and made things worse. If Carter had Clinton's economy, he might've gotten re-elected. By the time of this filming, he was probably exasperated and just glad the whole thing was over. He worked his butt, and everyone else's butt off in the WH the weeks before getting the hostages back. He deserves credit for that.
I love it such a great man,!!?
Sears and Carter! Perfect!
Pat lynch sears and Jimmy Carter both were morally bankrupt
2:30: He’s my favorite guy.
It's hard to believe Jimmy will be 100 years old In less than eleven days 🎉
A good president in the late 70s.
The old woman Carter kissed was probably his age now....Aint time funny....
Jimbobjim jim she was, that was his mother she actually lived to see his final day in the White House.
That's President Carter's mother Lillian. She died a year or two after he left office. Also all three of President Carter's siblings died of cancer (at relatively young ages) during the 1980s.
Lillian Gordy Carter, the woman Carter kissed, was his mother. She was 82 years old at on January 20, 1981. His siblings are Gloria Carter Spann (1926-1990), Ruth Stapleton (1929-1983), and William Alton Carter III (1937-1988), otherwise known as Billy, who was shown a few times in the clip. Lillian died October 30, 1983 of pancreatic and breast cancers.
We all get our turn to get old!
My parents got married when he became president in 1977.

The woman Carter kissed at 5.33 is definitely not his mother. She is literally a younger woman with dark hair.
If you're referring to some comments, they're talking about the older woman near the beginning of the video.
A he work on his staff
2:02 I think that’s Jimmy Carter’s brother, Billy Carter.
And you think correctly.
At the end, he's talking like a Kennedy. They just talk regardless of the BS
Who in the world is Carter kissing on at the 5:25 mark? I'm thinking, "What in the world is Carter doing?"
Maybe it is his sister-in-law, Lilian Allethea Smith Wall? She resembles Rosalynn very much, at the beginning I even thought it was she.
Jimmy not Jimmie. A great POTUS.
Desire Zonary. ..........
did carter see a ufo he should tell us more he keept it quiet
38th comment.
Jimmy Carter has the longest retirement of any President. He's also been using that time to try and rewrite his disastrous Presidency.
Exactly!
@@jimhanold9026 I sent him a congratulatory card recently that read: "CONGRATULATIONS! YOU'RE NO LONGER THE WORST PRESIDENT IN MY LIFETIME!"

I don't think anyone should compare Reagan with Grump. Reagan had a great deal of class.
@@docadams7099 no he didnt he sold missiles to iran and ignored the aids epidemic you call that class
Carter was a Reagan clone. It all would have happened either way.
As president-Jimmy Carter was egregiously incompetent!
Agreed but a good guy.
he was far more competent than reagan and george w bush. reagan ran up a huge 3 trillion dollar national debt deregulated the savings and loan industry which caused it to collapse ignored the aids epidemic gutted the social safety net sold missiles to iran and got 235 marines killed in lebanon
