My dad voted for Gerald Ford in 1976, I would listen to my dad tell his friends and neighbors “ I don't trust a guy that is always smiling”. Well, that was dad he was from the greatest generation my dad lied about his age to enter WW2. I learned to love Jimmy Carter what a wonderful kind loving man. My dad never lived to see Jimmy Carter lose that election in 1980 daddy died in 1979. I believe dad would of come to my opinion that Jimmy Carter is a great American.

Your post is great. Carter's Presidency is being reassessed in the closing months of his life and he's being seen now as a great man and a great President. The GOP's supporters, who've done so much to sour political discourse in the USA, loathe Carter, even in his dying days. The goodness of the man counts for nothing with these haters, racists, homophobes and misogynists. To decent people, Carter is an inspiration. By the way. Do not write 'would OF'. This isn't English. It's 'would'VE'. Or 'would HAVE'. 'VE' is the shortened version of 'HAVE'. 'HAVE' and 'OF' are words with different meanings.

To those that have to be that picky to critique writing in these type of forums usually have other unseen problems themselves. Two facts coming from an Englishman.
      1. Carter was not the weak, ineffectual President as portrayed by the GOP's supporters with efficacy and mass media backing. He was actually a great President who was amazingly prescient. That's not to say he didn't err. As Carter enters his last months, there's a radical reassessment of his time in The White House. His Presidency was far more substantive than most people understand. Of course the man himself was always inspiring. Judge a man by the company he keeps; Carter's friends were The Allman Brothers Band, Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hunter S Thompson and Bob Dylan.
      2. Those tools that Carter got from Sears would've been mostly US manufactured and of premium quality. I work with my hands and demand the best. USA manufactured tools are of superlative quality. Unfortunately many USA tool makers ( not all though of course) offshore manufacturing and this leads to a deterioration of quality. A prime example of this is Visegrip. If you want the best Visegrip now, you're better off looking at eBay and getting 25 yo ones than new, even though they might cost more. The 25yo ones are better and proudly made in Dewitt Nebraska when it was an independent company proud of the quality of its self grip wrenches. Wrenches of a quality Mr Carter would be proud to have in his tool cabinet.

Jimmy Peanut came home, and got a wonderful welcome. It was best for all of us that he did. The 1980 election was the 1st in which I voted for president, and it was Reagan hands down for me. Carter was a good man ethically and was honest, but had no political skills, was indecisive and contradictory, and was altogether too weak to be president. As people have said, he's been our most succesful ex-president. God blesss him

The economy tanked in the mid-to-late 70's, the energy crisis of 1973 got worse, and the sudden Iranian revolution all led to Jimmy's political downfall. Also, Volker jacked up the interest rates up and made things worse. If Carter had Clinton's economy, he might've gotten re-elected. By the time of this filming, he was probably exasperated and just glad the whole thing was over. He worked his butt, and everyone else's butt off in the WH the weeks before getting the hostages back. He deserves credit for that.
