    • @abdbach379
      @abdbach379 2 года назад

      At 4:54 It didn't store the fault in the Soundaktor itself because it was off when the fault occurred (you pulled the fuse XD) And since it's selected in the installation list in the Gateway module, other modules were expecting messages from it and couldn't communicate with it (in case of the ECM, it transmits info like engine rpm for the Soundaktor to generate the correct sound tone and frequency and it's synced with the engine).

  • @gregordiseth6651
    @gregordiseth6651 2 года назад +43

    I think some of the reasons this fake sound is added, is that engines are simply just quieter from the factory. We have insulation in the compartment (including the beauty cover), fluid filled engine mounts in some cars, subframes, a soft dogbone mount, etc. Manufacturers can't make everyone happy, and engineers work overtime to minimize NVH. With that said, a user selectable adjustment for the Soundaktor level would be a nice feature in a setup menu somewhere.
    I personally have the level set to zero via VCDS, I'd rather listen to my Fender sound system and not have fake sound compete with it.
    With all that said, that nice bit of crackle from the factory is a nice touch!

    • @jdrs4214
      @jdrs4214 2 года назад +3

      As Scotty Kilmer always says: “Engine beauty covers are stupid, and over-engineering is a terrible idea.” I’ll give you two examples: A BMW with fingerprint sensors on the door handles. (If one of those sensors shorts out, it will pull the whole car network down to chassis ground. That means you won’t be able to start the car, much less drive it.)
      Engine noise simulators on the comfort control module. Why tf would you want to mask the real sounds of your vehicle’s heart (engine)??? (You have to listen to your vehicle’s heart for its vital signs.) I think Scotty has a point.
      Engineers work overtime to complicate simple functions of vehicles, and crush consumers by forcing them to get them fixed at stealerships. Oh please!!!!! Spare me the praising of engineers and wake tf up!!! I’d like to think that you’re a human and not some farm animal. Don’t you see that most new cars connect to the industrial datagrade interphase, which can be hacked by let say…… any government willing to merc you, and steer you off of existence to your eternal silence??

    • @qwerty021021

      Looks like it has been at least thought of before. Here is a Reddit link to someone else thinking of this. Even with a 20ms response time with road or wind noise would be fine since it takes at least that long for sounds/air to settle in a car. I agree with using Python on the Pi: www.reddit.com/r/raspberry_pi/comments/6azbel/raspberry_pi_for_heavy_dsp_purposes_active_noise/

    Lane keep assist. On MK7.5 vehicles you could go through adaptations/coding and set it for increased response which would take it from "drunk drviving" bouncing from lane line to lane line, to the new settings which will actually allow the car to lane center lane assist. Did this in my 19 Golf R and my 19 Alltrack. Absolutely made the biggest driving difference of any software tweak.

      @@HumbleMechanic I have the R with manual. I have experimented with the hill hold and looked into other people's experience as well. It doesn't release if I blip the throttle (I think that's how previous gen was?), it only releases after some predetermined time. I don't think pushing through the hill hold is any good for the clutch or the braking system when I really need to move my car for whatever reason. I want to know if it's possible to decrease the time or even turn it completely off.

    Hey Charles have you ever done a video on the mk6,MK7, or the B7 Passat Traction control install videos I know that you can get a button and then install it yourself but then you have to go into the ABS module on your software and add it somehow or something along those lines aren’t too many Clear videos on how to do that

    I'm excited to see you purchased the Mk8 R. I am wondering if you have any insight into the headlights on the US version. Do the headlights have the guts to be able to turn on an adaptive mode like they have in Europe? Now that Adaptive headlights are approved for US use, I'd like to figure out if there is a way to turn on the function using VCDS.

    In my old days car sound was the combination of the bare potential of the engine combined with the coonnected exhaust system. Today in an automotive world which lost me, exhaust pipe-ends are phoney as well as the car sound. All directed by marketing and a freakin' bloody shame.

    Nice, I just used my OBD 11 and turned it down. BUT, because this is the absolute best channel for golf r. I am starting to hate my 7.5 . It is a 2019 with only 35k kms on it. The suspension, at slow speeds over speed bumps or road “wallows” just creaks terribly. The dealership, when it was under warranty, said they couldn’t find anything other than a tight headlight levelling device. I’ve read a ton on various forums and there does not seem to be a definitive answer, but surely a lot of discussion so it is a fault with the car. How do I fix it? Is it the sway bar links, the rubber bushings somewhere, the springs? I had the same problem in my 90’s era ford truck based SUV’s, I did not expect it from this car and it is hugely disappointing. HELP

    turning that crap off should be a menu option in the car set up screens in the info-tainment system. Or better yet a way t ojus tnot put the hardware in. And people who like loud noises can use a clothes pin to clip a playing card by a wheel hub so it makes a sound when the spokes hit it.
