  • This guide explains the rights of way rules designed to avoid collisions on the water. It explains what to do if you are upwind of another kiter, downwind of another kiter, riding to port, riding to starboard, being approached by a beginner, riding closer to a kiter on a wave etc.

Considering they had to remind the whole world how to wash hands and sneeze in a normal way, this tutorial was definitely useful too indeed...

Great video, these rules should be known by everyone, especially crowded places like Cape Town

That is a difficult thing! There are the show people they need to show their trick all the time and never go away from the water entrance and like to scare the beginners. And outside there coming the Foil racers as a team. They are fast but can’t change direction quick so you have to avoid them too..

Everyone will appreciate when you do the last tipp. You don't make yourself popular when you're riding downwind of the kiters at a big air spot. When you see that there are other kiters upwind of you do a turn and let him/her jump :)

A great one! Too many do not know these rules. I’m sometimes struggling at a bit at crowded spots full of beginners (most kiters at my homespots in Netherlands are beginners), crashed kiters everywhere, and most of the others not having much control...

I’m looking at Zandvoort in good kite wind conditions and thinking “how the fuck are they not crashing into eachother ? “ ... I’m less confident after this video ... it would take a lot to remember or even know these rules

"Right of the wind" sounds confusing in the video and when riding since your back is facing the wind. So much easier to remember: when a Red side of the handle or the Right hand facing forward it is like a red light for you - you don't have the right of the way.

Nice, you could have added short tacking to the list.

Beware the skilled but oblivious kiter who doesn't look back and just hammers a cut back in your face any time they feel like it

You made the assumption that windsurfer are far less manoeuvrable than kitesurfers. 😊. On some lakes with very unstable wind it is exactly the reverse, as kites are very likely to stall and drop on shore vegetation without control: same for kite beginners vs experienced windsurfers🧐! So your first rule between kites and Windsurfs is it general or just most of the time in basic sea conditions. 🤓. I must admit that kites are far more dangerous against windsurfers or other kiters than windsurfers against others😇 . Is it the true reason of your priority rule! In addition most kiters have specific insurance as most windsurfer don’t, so it is wise to avoid to have collision with them, even with priority 🥴! Last question what is the ranking of Wings riders in this picture?😎
