3 Mistakes for Kiteboarding Upwind and How to Fix Them

These are some of the most common mistakes we see when learning how to kiteboard/ kiteboard upwind. A lot has to do with finding the balance between kite control and board control. When everything comes together, it is an amazing feeling. Being able to kiteboard upwind is really the golden ticket to being an independent kiteboarder.

I feel the series makes a lot of sense, but also the mistakes are taken to extremity, like the last one, I don't think many will have problems realizing what's wrong with it, now, going a bit too much upwind, can be much harder to realize, and finetuning this is a real value

great video. I am a beginner of kitesurfing. My trouble is to turn kite up to keep it at 45 degree angle after diving the kite first to waterstart. I pointed my board downwind, somehow the kite would not go up no mater how I turned it, it stayed at the edge of the wind window and then dropped into the water due to lack of wind power at the edge of the wind window. please advise.

Hi Antony. Great tips, thank you for that. It also be nice to see the tips:
a) How to feel and control speed.
b) How to return board control if you are "speeding". How to resolve problems when kiteboard starts to sliding downwind or when it with very fast speed going almost downwind. Thank you.

Release the bar… step 1.

Why do you want to let the bar out? What does it do to the kite?

it opens the kite up to help push it further into the wind window, which also helps you get upwind.. but if you push too far out for too long then the kite goes to the far edge of the wind window and you lose all power.. so thats why we say its important to balance the bar tension

And then there are kites that ride better upwind and there are boards that go well upwind. Seek and buy good equipment
