Mulch (clean garden straw) around my strawberries brought slugs and pill bugs. It didn't go well :-(
That is unfortunate. I would definitely recommend a different type of mulch.If you have slug pressure try using plastic mulch during the growing season and a frost cloth during the winter. Hope this helps.
You could put a line of crushed eggshells around the bed, it'll deter slugs and snails from crossing.
