- Here's why I decided to sell my teardrop trailer and purchase something that is more accommodating for my full time travel needs. I discuss the benefits of selling my teardrop and what I'm thinking about as I move towards my ultimate goal of living on the road for a few years.

I sold the trailer l lived in for 3 years and got a full time job and an apartment. At first it was awesome to have all the comforts and conveniences of sticks and bricks life but the nomad in me was not so easily dismissed.
A year later l was back to watching videos and researching trailers, this time a 5x8 off road/off grid teardrop built to my specifications.
Yes, I downsized because l have spent weeks and months camping in tents and a small 4x8 trailer and found with my larger trailer that l spent most of the time outside and didn’t use half the things it came with anyway. I want something l can take anywhere and fix and maintain easily and those bigger mass produced RVs lack in quality, need a lot of maintenance and repairs restrict where you can go and aren’t any fun to drive with. Sometimes less is more.
I recently gave my job notice and am picking up my new trailer in 2 months and will be work camping and traveling again. The time away just made me realize how much l missed that life.

I have been to Tampa, and I even had the chance to visit a bar. An experience that I will always remember the things that went on inside that bar. I have noticed that the bar has closed and no longer exists.
I really enjoyed your videos (I stumbled across them while researching what teardrop I am going to probably buy within the next few months, just for weekend camping, actually the latest version of the one you traveled in). I watched this one and it very much reminded me of these two favorite quotes of mine that bracket Thoreau's book, Walden: "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived..." then "I left the woods for as good a reason as I went there. Perhaps it seemed to me that I had several more lives to live, and could not spare any more time for that one..." At now almost 60, I realize how I wish I had done what you have done when younger, and how much time you still have for further adventures. Best of luck in your future.

i took my journey at a time in my life that felt right. everything just kinda came together for me and it was a “if not now, then when?” kinda moment. so i took the first step and the rest just followed naturally
even though i don’t have the teardrop anymore, i have lots of traveling ahead of me. stay tuned for a very special area of the world i’ll be traveling to- coming up soon.

oh no! I just watched the vid Tristan did on your car and rig... I was all excited about the possibilities of a teardrop. but, you make some really good points on full-time living in one. I might need a bit more as I consider full-time. I just subscribed to your channel and will keep watching to see what you are up to next. I do have one question... what did you do for the hitch on your Forester? where did you get that installed? I have a '20 Outback and have gotten some crazy quotes. keep inspiring people, Erik! -Mike

i got my hitch installed at a local Trailer place in St Pete Fl. i think it was around $550(?).
i’m currently in the process of upgrading my car to travel full time in. i’ll most definitely be making a video all about the modifications and install i did once it’s all done.

Go figure. Dad always said I'd be late for my own funeral and now I subbed to see the tiny trailer videos and find out the day i subbed that you gave it up. Man you should have kept it and taken us camping on weekends. Well... What do I do now.... Even bigger.... What do you do now and will you continue making videos! Now you just say... @@EscapingNormalLife Not a problem at all. You have to do what is best for you and your life and what makes you happy. Happy trails to you wherever life should take you.
I get it. Our T@G teardrop is a bit taller than yours, but it’s tight and inconvenient. We still love it, but it’s only good for a little while, like a week or maybe two. I’ve used it while hunting a week in the mountains and it worked, but it was tight for two grown men.
I love watching other people’s teardrop videos to get ideas on what works for space optimization.
I did meet a traveling salesman who used a teardrop. He kept demo product in the back of his 8’ truck bed, and lodged in the teardrop. His clients were gracious enough to let him park on their property when he visited them. His point was “no bed bugs”, consistent sleeping arrangements, and it also reduced his expenses. Traveling all the time for work is hard, I’ve not yet decided if a teardrop would be better or worse on the road like that.

@@ppainterco i really loved my little home. the teardrop was fun. it was a conversation starter. people were always amazed that i lived in it. but it had its own challenges for full time living.

Aww, Sold? Did you cry. I felt a bit sadden for you. Can't wait until next video what you are planning on getting. I was thinking about getting the teardrop, but now I decided not to, Yes, that was your fault. LOL! I hope you are not next turned into full time controlling by the sponsors. . I stopped watching a few of my favorites because they turned into the sales shit.

it was a bit sad to see it drive away while it wasn’t attached my own car. but it was to difficult for me to live in it full time anymore. i think the setup i’m looking at will be much more accommodating for complete living.
the teardrop was fun though. if you like to do smaller trips (not a year or more), then i would still encourage others to look at them. they’re small, easy to pull, and don’t weigh a lot (so almost any car can pull them)

i was getting 20mpg with this setup. the car is a 2020 Subaru Forester. and the trailer weight total was 1,450lbs
