You forgot the part about having to put your PAL number in the website you order from. The daily background checks that the government runs on you. Every time you buy ammo you have to present your PAL. Oh and to get your PAL you gotta do a course and then wait months to even get your license to buy things. Don’t forget to mention there’s two licenses. PAL (hunting rifles and shotguns) and RPAL (handguns and anything else deemed restricted)
@@dakotareid1566 I noted that you have you put your info in. Since you can't buy handguns in Canada anymore you can't even get a prohibited license, my license showed up in about a week. All depends when you did the course and how many ppl were filing paperwork for it. That fact is, they dropped off a shotgun and box of ammo and just left it there.
Yea but unfortunately for you guys in Canada. That communist you have running your country is trying to take what little gun rights you guys still have from you.
Hey Eric, very informative video. I've owned, carried, bought & sold guns for 50+ years. The best advice I can share; read each question completely on form 4473; don't stop mid sentence and mark your answer.
Switzerland was not to different from the US until 1.1.1999: in most Cantons you had either permitted CCW or "Constitutional carry" (open and concealed, handgun and rifle), private transfers were private (until 1.1.2008), to buy handguns from an "FFL" you needed a simple piece of paper from your local police (mostly for free, and quick to get), long guns: ID and cash. Up 1939 you could even mail order full auto firearms, no papers required. Today we can get most of the stuff, with the required papers which are not too difficult to get, including silencers (special permit, but quite easy to get as well), and full auto. Stuff we can't get: CCW permits, expanding handgun rounds, aiming lasers (they are "bad" because you might blind the agressor before you shoot him)
One piece of good advice is to get to know the guys behind the counter at your dealer, makes it a lot less intimidating when your buddy-buddy with the guys selling you stuff

In my town, we don't have home delivery of mail, and everyone in town has a Post Office box. On our drivers license we can have either the PO box or a street address; some I've seen have both. The local FFL's are well familiar with dealing with that intricacy. The big thing I think you may have glossed over is that completing the 4473 takes some amount of time, perhaps 45 minutes or so, and if you can't devote the time the process takes, perhaps you should pick another day when more time is available. Otherwise, good video; thanks!
I live in California. Decided to build an AR-10. It's actually more fun than buying a complete gun. Once your lower is transferred to you from your FFL, everything else to build the gun just ships to your door.
It's still up to each and everyone reading this to get people to the range and empower them with knowledge that they can defend themselves. We must do our part to protect our rights and we can only do that in numbers.
How to buy a gun in the Netherlands: You must be an active member of a regulated shootingclub. After 1,5 yrs of active membership you are allowed to own ONE .22 caliber handgun or rifle (not semi auto rifle). After another full year you are allowed to own a maximum of 5 guns up to 9mm/.38 or .308 rifle (not semi auto rifle). After another full year you can own a semi-auto .308 rifle as well. There is no limit for owning and shooting antique blackpowder weapons but you are only allowed to reload and shoot them after 1,5yrs full membership of a regulated shootingclub.
California has more steps 1) you must have a Firearm Safety Course valid card or pass the test in store. 2) Real ID with 1 other form of residency or non real ID with birth certificate and residency form. 3) 10 day waiting period. 4) handguns must be on the approved handgun roster. 5) ammo can be purchased at the same time you pick up the firearm, if no firearm is bought at the same time a background check is required for ammo purchases. 6) gun locks are required purchase for all firearms unless you have a safe and provide an affidavit of modal safe
Building mine was nice. Surprisingly, the only part that had to go through an FFL was the lower receiver. Im not sure about the TCG, as I bought them at the same time and had it sent to the FFL with my lower. Everything else came right to my front door! :) Of course, it should ALL be that way. Grumble, grumble.
Haven't bought a gun in over 20 years. This year going to sell my two Beretta 3032 Tomcat handguns to get a CC 9mm striker fired handgun. Going to take lots of research as there's so many choices. Easy in my area because there's Vance Outdoors, Cabelas and a few other gun stores.
Guns, ammo, reloading equipment and components, knives, tomahawks, swords, archery, fishing, hunting and camping gear etc etc etc. Worth more when SHTF than any currency. Somebody could get jammed up so bad they would trade a months worth of food for a .22 rifle/handgun and a couple boxes of ammo.
Great info!!Wish peaple would watch this and see what it takes to buy a gun.Where i live i heve a carry permit and still fill out the paper work and walkout when i do purchase either in a dealer or gun show i still have to fill out paper work .
In the free state of TN the only paper work for person to person transfer is the cash. You need to know the person you are selling to can legally own and poses a firearm. No background check. Remember, The nine most terrifying words in the English language are "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." Ronald Reagan
Mental illness needs to be classified in a spectrum. People with low functioning illnesses should be able to defend themselves, but they should require some sort of permit that checks in on their mental state through a therapist every 6 months or so. I know some people with autism who I didnt know had autism because it was so low functioning, yet never thought of killing themselves or other people.
I had a pistol transferred to a big box store, they do not honor the Brady Bill. I was put on delay. Had to wait 30 days the delay was not lifted . I had to do this 3 times, then had it transferred to another store so I put on delay for the forth time. They then honored the Brady Bill and was able to pickup the pistol.
As a Canadian firearms owner, listening to the video, it makes me think that despite all the criticisms of the more restrictive Canadian firearms laws, our system is actually simpler and better in some ways. First, one must successfully complete the Canadian Firearms Safety Course (typically delivered over 2 instructional days with a written and practical exam needing to be passed at the end of it). From there, one can apply for a federal Purchase and Acquisition License (PAL) (which is certainly a major paperwork undertaking, with 2 other people needing to provide references and requiring spousal approval (where applicable) and signature attesting the spouse has no safety concerns with the applicant receiving a firearms license). From there, the PAL application typically takes several months as the system is backlogged and the required criminal background checks take time. Mine took nearly 6 months to receive. By comparison, my son's application took less than 3 months. However, once the license has been issued and received, we can order firearms online (with provision of ID and the PAL) and have them literally delivered to our door (with ID and a signature of course). If you're buying a firearm from a bricks and mortar gun store, they can run a verification of your PAL and do a transfer of the firearm within just a few minutes and have you on your way with your new firearm. So our system, while initially slow and much more restrictive in many of the types of firearms one can legally own, is actually much easier once you are actually licensed. Not suggesting the Canadian system is all good. But certain aspects are much easier once the up-front licensing has been achieved.
In Florida even with the concealed carry Permit you're still givin a background check. concealed carry permit allowedls you to take it home that day ,there's a 3 day wait for rifles and pistols.
In MN, even though you have a permit to purchase/permit to carry you still have to call in the 4473 and get approved. Not all states are approved to do this.
I'm a concealed handgun permit holder in Colorado. In my state I still have to pass a background check every time I purchase a firearm, even though I also have my concealed handgun permit.
I bought my first guns pre-NICS and have done so post NICS as well. I have never had a problem either way. I have 3 guns that belonged to my grandfather, a 10-round magazine fed bolt action .22lr, a bolt action .410ga. shotgun, and his Colt Police Special .38 cal. I am in the process of restoring the .22lr. When I lived in Las Vegas, I had a little 380ACP that was ok, but I had bought a 9mm to replace it. I sold the 380 at one of the local pawn shops. About 4 months later, 2 police officers knocked on my door and asked me where my 380 was. It was obvious they knew where it was. I told them that I had sold it to XYZ pawn shop, and they said sorry to bother you, but it turned up at a crime scene. They also said that XYZ pawn shop was already under investigation for similar situations. Then they left. That was it on that situation I never heard anything else from them.
It's actually probably easier to buy a gun here in Austria. Well at least a category c gun (bolt action, lever action, long barrelled revolver or single/double shot gun). They're not licensed so if you your an EU national and you live in Austria you can just go to a gun shop. Show them an ID and residency doc. They fill the paperwork in for you. They do a background check (which isn't as strict as yours as only violent offences and court ordered weapon bans are taking into account - not non violent crimes) and you pick the gun and ammo up three days later (we have a three day waiting period). They don't ask any questions at all. They are though registered in your name on the federal database which kind of sucks. If you want a semi auto or hand gun you have to have a license which makes things a little more complicated but they are fairly easy to get so it's not too bad.
Most people think there state law is federal law. Friend from California was visiting with his son so I took them out back to do some target shooting. Figured they were nervous because the son had never held a gun. When I asked if they wanted to fire the cannon they had a panic attack. That's when I found out they thought it was illegal to own, and especially fire any of the guns I have. Still don't think they believe that cannons are unregulated.
Also this is a great way and video to use for those who believe that you can make a purchase over the internet or gun store with out any paperwork just send them here to watch not the gun haters would but if you get one it’s a winner
Hey Eric. I bought the Henry axe at a retail sporting goods store. It was kind of different then other places I have bought a guns from. 1 the 4473 form was on a computer and 2 I handed the guy at the counter my concealed hand gun permit and he said I didn't need it. The I had to wait over a hour for my background check to come back. I usually never had to wait 30 minutes at most on a background check. I don't think I'll buy a gun from them ever again.
Very good video (I am an experienced gun-owner and buyer, and a fairly strict Libertarian), and I enjoyed your point of view; it was very refreshing. I honestly believe that ANY gun law is un-Constitutional. Yeah, I don't have many friends! hahaha! Oh, my gun safe drowned in the 2016 flooding in Louisiana, and due to being fired shortly after, I cannot afford to buy another gunsafe. I am lucky to be able to buy a few cases of beer a month. But I'm coming up on my due date, and won't have to worry about it for a lot longer. No kids are ever in this house, so don't worry too much. Someone is also almost always at home (I had to sell my car that I loved).
Here in Canada you must complete a course to get a firearms license for a non restricted such as a shotgun or hunting rifle, then another course for a restricted license for things such as handgun or AR( before they banned the sales of them) once you passed the course you apply for the license , thats when the background checks are done. Once you have your license buying a gun is easy. A Non restricted i can go into a store have the license verified and walkmout with it. I can buy online from a dealer , they check my license then ship right to my door. The same as buying from an individual online , they can ship direclty from the post office to me. Now a restricted their is a wait as you have to contact the firearms office and initiate a transfer and depending on the province it could take a day to several months, once its approved it can be shipped directly to my door.
@Douglas Heinrichs it's wasn't horrible until they banned the sales of hand guns and banned AR's and a bunch of other semi auto's like the mini14 and are now wanting to ban more. Also keep in mind the only place we were allowed to shoot our hand guns or AR's were at a range.
@@matthewmcallister8845 you're right, very limiting. But aren't the vast majority of Canadians really just interested in hunting? I mean crime is so low there, self defense is probably wyles down the list, right?
@Douglas Heinrichs sports shooters are probably the most pissed off about the new laws. People that shot 3 gun or pistol shooters have either lost the ability to shoot their preferred firearm or in the pistol sports the ability to buy any new guns. Hunters are loosing some of the semi's they used like the mini 30 or mini 14 and a few others. Their is a group of people who like to have more self protection /castle type laws to be allowed and a even smaller group would like to see CCW.
Great content. Nice and factual. Best way to counter some of the rhetoric of guns too easy to purchase by anti-gunners. The big caveat is the state variations as some of the anti-gun states have really been in overdrive lately with new and evermore creative ways to infringe a right which shall not be infringed.
I was told that if I had a concealed carry permit in Michigan, I wouldn’t need a background check. A few years ago, they quit honoring that. I have bought several guns since, and every place still runs a background check even though I have a permit. I hate tyrants.
The FFL store I went to said it would charge $75 to transfer. Also, some older folks have a difficult time filling out the background check using laptop in store vs. a hard copy/paper form. They should have an option for one or the other.
Live in a state with private gun sales. And use armslist. Meet up with the seller hand them the money they hand you the gun and we go our separate ways

I wish your statement about the carry permit not having to back ground check was correct but is not in this backwards ass state of Oregon. I had a carry permit out of Multnomah County (HEAVY blue county) when I had applied for a purchase back in November 2022. I was then put on a delayed status in January 2023. I had then moved out of Multnomah County in middle of February 2023 and applied for my CHL permit transfer into Jefferson County (HEAVY red county) and instantly got my CHL transfer that same day. I have STILL been held on a delayed status for firearm transfer from that original firearm purchase of a PSA AKV9 back on 11/26/2022. I plan on finally going over the mountain range to OSP to see what the heck is the delay! Wish me luck in Oregon!🤞🍀
Nacho Libre : Keep me posted. I'm in a similar scenario. I'm planning on making my own derringer. If it's a success then I will build more. I believe 113 will be over turned definitely un-constitutional to have to go through all that bμllshℹt just to buy any type of gun. Good knowledge to be able to build your own firearm and ammunition.

Private sales are the best way to go if your state allows it. I don't buy guns at FFL's. I just browse mewe in my area and soon there will be the gun I want for usually a little cheaper than at the gun store.
Maybe in GA. I have a concealed weapons permit in Pennsylvania and I fill out a 4473 for every purchase plus All paperwork like everyone else. My carry permit means nothing at the store. They will tell you they do not know if the permit is valid and run everything through to check anyway. It may make it clear faster but they run everything just like everyone else. ( Pennsylvania.)

@@DarylRochon-is7vs What about antique handguns and muzzloaders?
Timely video. My sister is buying her very fist gun today!
Stuff we can't get: CCW permits, expanding handgun rounds, aiming lasers (they are "bad" because you might blind the agressor before you shoot him)
There’s an episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia that’s provides excellent guidance on this very subject.
This answered a lot of questions I had about ffls and why they ask certain questions. This is valuable information, thanks!
One piece of good advice is to get to know the guys behind the counter at your dealer, makes it a lot less intimidating when your buddy-buddy with the guys selling you stuff
When I go buy a new gun, you fill out the 4473 on their computer. It's actually so much easier than I remember.
Hope you see this man, but your amazing this channel is what the people love what the people need and what we deserve brother just thank you for that and everyone involved, i know its expensive shooting, but im really loving these types of episodes just sit down and just talking brother, thank you again man have a great weekend
As someone who has purchased many firearms and even owns NFA items I still find these videos great. I can share them with friends or new potential buyers.
Watched it while cleaning up my Svt-40. Thanks
I was just told by a clerk in connivence store that anyone can buy any gun online…I told her to give it a try and let me know how it works out
Man… I made this same video… rescheduling now
I hope yours is a bit better structured.
I dig that you addressed and provided information for those individuals that may struggle with reading comprehension.
I got my CCW so I don't have to deal with the NICS system. Even though it only took 1 minute for mine to be approved.
Great video . Thanks for the information. Take care
i worked in an LGS for 12 years,, solid info all around.
Thank You, I needed this
In my town, we don't have home delivery of mail, and everyone in town has a Post Office box.
Awesome video! Great info even for seasoned firearm enthusiasts!
This blog will put you on ATF's hit list.
The first time I filled out the paperwork I went through 3 or 4 copys.
I live in California. Decided to build an AR-10. It's actually more fun than buying a complete gun. Once your lower is transferred to you from your FFL, everything else to build the gun just ships to your door.
It sucks in MI. Even if you have a CPL by law, they have to do a NICS.
Michigan is almost an automatic delay at this point no matter what is bought
It's still up to each and everyone reading this to get people to the range and empower them with knowledge that they can defend themselves. We must do our part to protect our rights and we can only do that in numbers.
In virginia where i live you still have to do background check when buying even if you have a carry license.
I don't know why but I instantly think of Who's Line Is It Anyways. 😂
*"Things to say that'll always start a fight."*
"....Wanna fight?"
How to buy a gun in the Netherlands: You must be an active member of a regulated shootingclub. After 1,5 yrs of active membership you are allowed to own ONE
.22 caliber handgun or rifle (not semi auto rifle).
That's terrible!!!
@@30rdmaga we manage it like this, it's not too bad but waiting can be long
Those are anything BUT clubs.
The ATF telling you that you need to be punished for a simple mistake is like OJ telling you not to beat the shit out of your wife

In Michigan, you still have to have a background check even if you have a CPL. It used to be like that, but no more.
The marijuana legalization problem.
On 4473, all I do is write, Hunter Biden, Washington, D.C. and thats it. No delays ever.
In Florida all sales require a background check, so it depend on the State!
If You Live In A Free State Either Get Your Guns Through A Private Transaction Or Build Your Own Guns.
Building mine was nice. Surprisingly, the only part that had to go through an FFL was the lower receiver. Im not sure about the TCG, as I bought them at the same time and had it sent to the FFL with my lower.
Everything else came right to my front door! :)
Of course, it should ALL be that way. Grumble, grumble.
Thank you for this video.
I would love a Beretta .32
I can protect , collect and invest in the future ( meaning guns are investments ) !!!
I would’ve loved to see you guys back at moss pawn and gun for this
Great info!!Wish peaple would watch this and see what it takes to buy a gun.Where i live i heve a carry permit and still fill out the paper work and walkout when i do purchase either in a dealer or gun show i still have to fill out paper work .
In the free state of TN the only paper work for person to person transfer is the cash. You need to know the person you are selling to can legally own and poses a firearm. No background check.
Remember, The nine most terrifying words in the English language are "I'm from the government, and I'm here to help." Ronald Reagan
Most people in person to Person will require or at least heavily prefer if the buyer has a CCW permit. Least then the parties know it’s all good.
Thank you iraqveteran8888 for the 2a news
That's kinda dumb. As if someone couldn't still do plenty of damage with a shotgun.
I live in California. When I see a really cool gun on John wick I just cry because I can't buy it.
Lol, me too man
Bring back the days when you could buy a BAR or full automatic Thompson from Sears....
So Illinois is doing it wrong? I have a carry permit and every time I buy a firearm the store runs a BG check and 72 hr waiting period.
That’s how long the waiting is Illinois
I’m under 21 so the savage mark ii 22 I just bought, I had to wait 10 work days to pick up.
Living in Commirado ,they just past the 3 day wait law, so Now 3 day wait IS mandatory .
It doesn't sound too bad and keeps the nutjobs from getting a license.
In Missouri, like other states, we still must do 4473 even with CCW.
Literally the same in Maryland.
@@capricornman89 Also same here in WI
After marijuana was legalized, the background check came back for cpl holders.
Audio/video went out of sync from 20:24 to 21:07 just so you know. Great content like always Eric, even if you already know this stuff
AFT trolls are thick there, still a great resource.
Thank you for the explaining the process, can you explain how to become an FFL, and what is expected of you, pros and cons of becoming an FFL?
having a clean record and a law abiding citizen with a cpl. I can walk in and out in about 15 minutes if I know what it is I want. I absolutely love it.
In Pennsylvania I have my carry license I still have do a background check on every single firearm
You still need to run the 4473 thru nics if your permit does not have your photo. Wisconsin hasn9 photo and I have to supply my DL.
Make your own and tell the AFT to eff off...
i don't have an issue with the soc, but i once got confused with a 6'3', 240 lb colored person. i am 5'11" red head irish man that goes 135 on my best day... then they ran the soc,,, just saying.
Private sales are the best way to go if your state allows it. I don't buy guns at FFL's. I just browse mewe in my area and soon there will be the gun I want for usually a little cheaper than at the gun store.
places in the southeast, i feel like it's extremely easy to get a gun...and cheap esp when i border alabama and georgia.
