  • 3 ways to create a layered font design using any font.
Give your design a retro or vintage look by following along step by step with me as I create these designs using three different techniques.
I also show how to use the Glyph panel in Silhouette Studio and the Warp Panel to get your design to look exactly how you want.
The design can be print and cut, or I show you how to subtract the layers to cut out of vinyl or HTV.

Hello, this is a great video for how to design this in the silhouette studio. how do you cut and layer this type of design for a shirt?

Thank you! I kind of hid it in there. At the 15:00 mark is where I start the direction for how to subtract the layers for cutting out of HTV or vinyl if you don't want to layer them. When pressing on your item, make sure you just press it enough to tack it on (2-3 seconds) because the heat of each layer can make the HTV shrink.
You would probably want to line them up after cutting (bottom layer first, working up to top layer), pick your placement on your shirt, then peel off all but the bottom layer and press quickly (2-3 seconds), then work up through the layers, slightly overlapping each one and tacking in place.
For Golden Hills style, after you subtract each layer, you probably need to do an internal offset the second to top layer (the dark pink in my design) Or for Halycoon you would need to do an internal offset of both the orange and white layers a tiny bit (like .015) so it makes up for any shrinking and the top layer still looks like you designed it.
      Does that help?

Hi, do you also have a tutorial on how to print it on vinyl? Thanks

I don’t yet but once you get the design to look the way you want, just turn on registration marks and do print and cut.
Just select cut edge or do an offset and turn off the cut lines for the rest of the design.

Not understanding how your making it go 9 down and over 3

I use the arrow keys on my keyboard. If you select the shape and tap one of the arrow keys it will move one space in that direction. Tap down arrow 9 times and then the (I think it was the right) right arrow 3 times.
I have since learned that if you hold the shift key while tapping the arrow key it will move farther in one tap (kind of like using the tab key instead of the space bar). You would need to adjust the number of times you do that but should be more like two times instead of nine to save time.
