I'm imagining some really old guy who's into classical music trying to search for Komm Susser Tod by Bach but instead keeps getting results about an anime movie in which a 14 year old with depression pilots a giant robot and ends the whole world.

It's a weird word. "Εὐαγγέλιον" is pronounced like it was in this video. If you pronounce it like the Latin "evangelium," it uses a soft g and different syllable emphasis. There's no "proper" way to pronounce the title. If there were, I think the Greek pronunciation of "Νέον Γένεσις Εὐαγγέλιον" would make the most sense despite it sounding like "yenesis."

  • @ManubibiWalsh

The movie before End of Evangelion, Death(True)2, does have several callbacks to Pachelbel’s Canon in D Major, including a credits’ titles scene halfway through (since it’s basically two shorter movies pasted one after the other, and yes the production history of Evangelion is dark and full of terrors)
So, matter of fact, Komm Sußer Tod is not composed to sound like the Canon on a superficial level. It sounds like it because it had a narrative and psychological role in the story earlier on. People just don’t watch Death(True)2, which I get but that’s how y’all misunderstand these things.

    Evangelion's version is for depression.
Bach's version is about an impending sense of doom and accepting that, with or without the depression that comes along with it.
Maybe i just like dark organ music, but i binge bach's one easier.
