    Thanks for the kind words about my Dad's Rorke's Drift game! He has been working on it for two years (was supposed to debut at Historicon last year). British won first game on Friday and Zulus managed to win the second game on Saturday!

      Woul love to see an AAR on the Zulu win and how they managed that!

    • @HardingWE
      @HardingWE 3 года назад +2

      @@billmasters385 was a combination of bad luck by the British and good leadership by Zulus.
      Zulu players focused all their forces on one side of the table and overwhelmed British around the hospital. British were not quick enough to react to bring more forces over from the store house and the kraal.

      @@HardingWE Excellent. I really enjoyed hearing how the Zulus could have prevailed. It really demonstrates just how masterful and lucky the British soldiers were that day. That table design was awesome as well in the pics that I saw.

    This was my first historicon, I just passed the bar and went with my dad. It was an amazing time so many awesome looking games that inspired me to finish my Punic wars armies and play some age of Hannibal. My favorite game was the siege of maiden hill. Romans vs Brits on an amazing table with two great gamemasters who helped my dad and I have a blast trying to take the fort

      Great to hear! Conventions are an ideal place to find inspiration and motivation, as you get to see all the hard work other players invested to build their boards. I always come away inspired and excited to get back to my painting bench and return to old projects.

    This was my first Historicon ever, and I had an absolute blast. It had an energy completely unlike any other gaming convention that I've ever been to. The concept of games run for people who are new to the game was so refreshing, I signed up for 5 different games that I had never played, and had great gaming experiences and great social experiences at each table. Definitely coming back and bringing my friends.

    This Historicon was absolutely everything I was expecting and then some. Such a wide and varied collection of games of all types. As an absolute newcomer to wargaming it left an incredible impression, and I will admit that the Vietnam games put on by Tom and Ed may have turned me onto collecting my first miniatures ever. It was great to meet some of the LWTV guys there, and I'll remain hopeful to attend an HMGS event again sometime next year.

    Greg, I agree with your comment regarding HMGS spreading their geographic footprint to Northern Virginia. I spoke to Doug Kline of BCT (Battlefield Terrain Concepts)
    and he mentioned that quite a few more vendors and customers from the Southeast US would attend HMGS conventions (eg. Historicon) if they were held in a more centrally located venue. PS. Thanks for replying to my question regarding basing for 6mm ACW. Happy Holidays to you and the LWTV Club!

    I attended this weekend and I agree the set up bring as spread out as it was was a mixed blessing. I was there mainly for the Battle Front WW3 Team Yankee and Flames of War tournament. Luckily these were right by the vendors hall and flea market area. This however did dissuade me from visiting the other areas much more often than I would have liked. Hopefully future events will allow closer quarters. All told it was a win and it was great to be back in the gaming convention saddle.

    • @LittleWarsTV
      @LittleWarsTV  3 года назад +2

      For Historicon next summer the venue will be the downtown Lancaster PA Marriott, an absolutely AWESOME venue that is truly fantastic. Fall In, a year from now, will likely be back at the Valley Forge Casino, though it sounds like HMGS is reconsidering their future options at this site. The problem is that they don't have a lot of good venue options for places that can handle a couple thousand people with the kind of table/space needs we have. If the shows were smaller (like 500-600) their would be tons of options. And if the shows were larger (5k+) they could afford some of the bigger, pricier East Coast venues. But we are in a tough middle ground for HMGS to balance size/space/cost requirements.

      The location of this venue is quite good--right on the I-95 corridor, easily accessible to the turnpike, a major airport, and multiple highways. It makes a lot of geographic sense for accessibility...but yes, sadly the venue itself left much to be desired. If you're going to be at a 3+ day event, you want some walkable food options!

I didn't get to see many of the games due to their being so spread out. I felt that this year's convention was better than some in the resent past. But, it still was a little disappointing. Some major vendors were missing, sure I order a lot of my hobby items on line, but I like to see the stuff before I order.

    Loved to be back gaming with friends I have not seen for year, played mostly CY6 but checked out other games. Donno what the issue is for LW with the venue. Yes, staffing shortages, like everywhere. Walked around like everybody else, no problems. Certainly, beats walking around half dug construction site at the Host where some people actually got hurt. Food issues? Not at all- Italian, Chinese and Dunkin on premises, also pricey chop house and hot dogs at entrance. I stayed off site and very nice hotel with breakfast, so no food issues at all. Would like to return to this venue, as my group of gaming buddies also had no issues. Good luck with Ocean City, MD, Nobody I know is going there for CW.

      I think HMGS would have been happy to return to the Lancaster Host for shows, but after the completion of what felt like a decade-long renovation, the Host jacked their event rates way up. Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg, Fredericksburrrrrrrrrg!
    Go back to Fredericksburg please HMGS

      It certainly had some advantages, though we can't pretend that Fredericksburg was ideal either. Every location seems to come with compromises, but that's just how it is. I do think HMGS would be wise to spread out their footprint to a wider geographic area, including northern VA.

    Great video. Are Josh and Tony drinking Mimosas?? How gay! "Not that there's anything wrong with that"!!

      Firstly, mimosas are awesome. Secondly, that's actually a beer one of our patrons brought us to try. The only thing we had to use for glassware were leftover plastic champagne flutes from our patron reception on Friday night!

    That's a lot of grey hairs and bald heads among the attendees. For all the talk of if historical wargaming is dying out or not, that's a worry to see.

      The membership of HMGS definitely leans older, even by historical wargaming standards.

    I hope someday to go to one, but as long as masks are involved, well. I can't breathe in those. So I guess that lets me out.

    No, masks being required was NOT the right decision, and that is testified to by the fact that all four of you are sitting there talking sans masks. Why? They aren't necessary.
