I just discovered this channel, and I am so in love with the Pyrrhic war campaign. I will be oh so sad if it is a one off and there are not more "campaigns" in the future. It is so awesome!
Well done! This is really the way to go to boost wargaming with Ancients. As a customer I really appretiated it! Thank you and keep publishing all these fantastic videos.
I have not played Age of Hannibal, but I've been saving up for a 3D printer lately, and I'm getting back into the Late Republic, AoH II may be the perfect excuse to print a bunch of First Century BC Romans for some civil wars.
Both my regular opponent and I like the changes, particularly allowing pila to count in the first round of every melee (which stops Skirmishers soaking up that first shock), and the new Missile rules - although my Macedonians appreciate that more that Malcolm’s Indians so 🤣 One questions - some of the armies we use (Achemanids spring to mind) fielded horse archers which are no longer an option. Do you have any house rules / thoughts? Our club has members who have 50 years plus of house-ruling, so sure we can do that, but just wondering.
You can definitely use horse archers by equipping any of the horse classes with bows as an option! We’ll be doing that shortly for a Carrhae scenario playtest.
"We are not Games Workshop". Age of Hannibal, Age of Sigmar, it's all the same...... Only kidding! Planned obsolescence is a marketing strategy that places profit before fans. Really appreciate you producing rules written by players for players. I will be hoping to pick up a paper copy somewhere in the UK.
Just got my book and love it but I just have one question on the missile fire. Page 8 (Missle fire) and page 50 (Quick reference) have differing tables. Which one is correct. Thanks for the content and wargame.
I was pretty surprised when I saw the new edition in my inbox last week, looking forward to seeing how the changes affect our games. Cheers lads, we really appreciate it
Hey guys, I bought the Age of Hannibal PDF and was wondering where can we find the game mechanics and rules for the diplomacy, marching, siege and ship phases of the battles?
Would you guys consider having your battlefield creator be its own system but have it generic enough to cover just about any period and have it work for any scale.
Hello, thanks a lot for that great game and (even greater) free update ! I intent to give the 1st punic war campaign a try in the following months (a lot of minies have to be painted before that !). And I was wondering if the half cost for pila and phallanx was intentionally left in the rules... all other units and upgrades have a cost that is a multiple of 5, but with the new cost of those two upgrades they are each at 2.5 points...
A nitpick on a comment: the d8 itself doesn't reduce randomness, it increases the potency of modifiers (which would increase likelihood of success if you have the same modifiers compared to when you had d10).
I'm assuming you know there are campaigns for Hannibal, both the free Phyrrus one and the Punic wars. But I guess you mean a campaign system to create your own?
Age of Hannibal is based on Chipco's Days of Knights (the system Little Wars used for their fabulous Agincourt video), so the system you want already exists! :) (if you don't want to buy an additional system, I'm guessing the short answer is "yes, you can use it", given Hannibal's pedigree).
Thank you SO MUCH for not being Games Workshop - they are a bunch of money grubbing, proprietary ne’er-do-wells (cleaned that up!). Seriously though, you, guys are a class act all around! Can’t wait for the next scenario book!!!
I have the first edition. off course it seemd so good I had to get a new scale of minatures. Damned you! But will check this updtae out for sure, it is a a nice game. I like the D8 change and morale clock treshhold thing (no morale check for losing 2 vs 1 hits). Damned to get new stuff again 🙂
Thanks guys! Great work. I’m going to take the plunge and go all in. I have large Punic Wars collection in 15mm multi-based, not elements so I think these rules will work just fine. Can I get hard copies of the books in the EU or UK? Please keep up the great work.
I do a lot of gaming my particular group doesn't like war strategy type games but I make RPG's for our group. Why not make units that use Pila/Javelins do debuffs to targets to simulate thier support role. Like reduced movement or reduced stats? Also you could incorporate defense rolls to reduce or stop damage to simulate the slog of ancient warfare and them taking several ours? Just some ideas.
This may be a bit of an odd question but would there be any objection to purchasing the pdf version and then printing and binding it myself? I just really enjoy binding my own books. im sure you guys wont mind but i figured its better to ask as you sell your own print version
You dont know how much happy you make me that you are NOT GW. I stopped purchasing GW products since 8th ed. fantasy became available..... and I stopped playing their games and begun selling whatever i had once AoS was anounced. ......its been quite some time heh 😂
Interesting, why not a 2d6 or 2d8 system. A single die by its nature is random, whether you roll an d8, d10, or d20, there is no bell curve. Meaning that a green light infantry unit has the same chance as a veteran heavy infantry unit. Battles can have varying outcomes based on better intelligence, training and/or technology advantages, leadership, or dumb luck. However, strategic efforts often come down to attrition and supply management; who starts with the most resources and can husband those resources in the most efficient manner without losing their armies often wins. The Carthaginian wars are a prime example, Rome lost how many battles, but who lost the war? The Gauls outnumbered the Romans by how many soldiers, but who lost their homeland?
But the higher the value of the die, the greater the difference in potential results. Once you're adding the die to a value, or adding a modifier to the die, the smaller die the less variable are the outcomes (greater than/less than). If the green infantry is -1 and the heavy infantry is +3, there are fewer ways for the green infantry to win with a d8 vs. a d10 or d20; but it still can if the gods are with it.
@@chrisrobinson196 Not really, I should have been clearer, w/o modification rolling a single die any the chance of any given number appearing always has the same percentage chance of appearing as 1 divided by the number of faces e.g. rolling 1 w/ a d20 has 5% chance of appearing, as does a 20 on a d20. Whereas rolling two dice generates a bell curve with a more predictable mean, for example the chance of rolling a 7 on 2d6 is almost 17%, as opposed to a 1 which is almost 3%. Adding or removing bonuses to the outcome of a single die roll merely adds or detracts from the final result and has no impact on the chance of rolling a particular number on a single die. Which is why I asked the design question. Rolling single dice are like playing a slot machine which can be fun with wild ups and downs, however, rolling 2 dice yields much more consistent results. With a normal distribution curve on 2d6, with a median of 7 of the median. Nearly 45% of your rolls are going to be 6, 7, or 8, whereas only a little over 5% of your rolls will be 1 or 2 or 11 or 12. Any shift in caused by bonuses greatly impacts the results. The choice of a single die means more wild results, where two dice yield more consistent results even with modifiers. Thus a -1 shift on d8 is a simple -13% but the chance of rolling a 1 or an 8 is still only 13% (I am rounding up). Where as I -1 on 2d6
Been looking forward to Turn IV all week and you guys let me down with this 5min ad. I'm grateful for it, but very disappointed. I guess you guys did say "next time" and not "next week" on the last vid.
@@LittleWarsTV same here, I'm just waay to hooked on that awesome series 😅. But it of course takes time to edit and record, still going to cry now because the wait 😭
I love you guys. But. Are you getting too involved with weapons based rule systems rather than the battlefield effect of various troop types? And - yes I know - this was the basis of DBA and DBM - but, I still consider this philosophy to have merit. Yes, the rule books were boring as hell and yes the army lists were often dubious and at the mercy of the latest historical research but I have played ancient and medieval war games a LOT (often in national leagues) and I still think the approach was correct - the presentation bloody AWFUL! What say you guys?
It warms my heart to see that Little wars tv respects its audience and actually sees them for people
As they said, they are not Games Workshop.

I’m a 28mm gamer at heart, but every time you do something in 6mm I inch closer to breaking down and giving it a try.
Same here 😂 But I'll give it a try in a few months by doing the Italian campaign of Napoleon III in 6mm 🥲

That counts for a major win during the current cost of living crisis.
A nitpick on a comment: the d8 itself doesn't reduce randomness, it increases the potency of modifiers (which would increase likelihood of success if you have the same modifiers compared to when you had d10).
I would guess they meant "reduces variability" i.e. reducing the swinginess of a d10
Kind of bummed that the next turn didn't come out today. But nice update.
My guys!! Even though I already own I’m definitely gonna purchase to contribute to you guys.
Killer! My 6mm ancients are all based on 60mm frontages - would AoH allow for that kind of basing or is it very specific?
It’s basing agnostic, so 60mm frontages are just fine! We used to play in 28mm with 3” square bases many years ago
@@LittleWarsTV cheers :)
This is great news as I've just been working on my Punic Wars armies and have not decided on rules. How does Age of Hannibal play for solo games?
The game workshop joke make me laugh so hard lol. Aside from that, I've just 1 question, where cann i get the miniature used in the Battles?
baccus 6mm is the first best place to look
Any plans to have a campaign system in the far future? Would be cool to wargame the funeral wars of Alexander's successors!

Are there any house rules you would use to run Medievals with the AoH ruleset?
