All these stupid additives make me so mad. /:
That's what most of the frozen vegan shit is. It's full of preservatives.
Star Shine companies should have to specify if the "natural flavours" in the ingredients list contain animal products
the worst part was finding animal fat as a ingredient in my cookies, so mad !!
SABRINAKID i feel your pain. animal fat is in the most innocent foods T-T
It really makes shit harder than it needs to be!
It's not that we *can't* eat them, it's that we *won't* :-) That's how I prefer to describe it anyway.
Also, as for gummy candies, Swedish Fish are vegan! :)
Thank you for saying that! I found the title a bit off putting, partially do to saying that people "can't" eat foods. Also because these are not weird foods or weird ingredients. On the topic of Swedish Fish, Trader Joe's has Scandinavian Swimmers, which is their own similar product, in a mixed flavor bag, using vegetables for dye.
hi I am Italian so I know a lot about cheese :D the claf stomach thing is used to litteraly DIGEST milk and get cheese from milk.
V Gaia THIS
I always put it like that too whilst explaining about my diet to others. This kind of language emphasizes that it's my personal choice and not "a trend" I blindly follow or some other bs people say.
Btw, can I just say you have a *beautiful* smile! Made me smile too. :)
why is there gelatine in EVERYTHING
Zeynep Beyza Theres even gelatin in peanuts lol
Zeynep Beyza because humans are cruel
Zeynep Beyza lol I know. Its because they need to use every bit of the animal to max out profits. 🤮
Ikr😂😂
IKR
The worst one is "Campbell's VEGETABLE soup", first ingredient "beef broth" 😂😩😖😤
lmao yeah I was looking at their new soups with high hopes... not even close!
Have you tried Amy's canned soup? Their soups are soo good and most of them are vegan.
My sister and I love their vegetarian vegetable. It's made with vegetable broth.
S. Ee yah cus it has vegetables in it
S. Ee okay hold on girl. there's some soup that's vegan that I LOVE. it's like. Healthy Choice Veggie. so good
why do people feel the need to put animals in everything we eat????&;(&/!'
They don’t waste the anaimal. But I am going vegetarian!
a happy note, Oreos have your back, totally vegan! :D
though it has high fructose corn syrup which is extremely unhealthy at large amounts, one every once in awhile are okay though
Yup!
레몬 워터lemone wauter they’re kept apart and the machines are cleaned regularly. It’s just because they’re produced in the same factory. 🙂
I’d be weary of the birthday cake Oreos. Some sprinkles have confectioners glaze, which has shellac. Can’t find whether they use sprinkles that don’t have it or not.
why would vegans vegetarians eat shitty processed food deemed to be safe for them? isn't the whole point to eat healthy?
the pringles bbq chips are vegan! i was so happy when i found them
youshouldalwaysfeel all of the pringle chips are vegan!
youshouldalwaysfeel oh hi lauraa 👋🏼
i think most of them are, but there are some meat, cheese or cream flavours, and their tortilla range is also not vegan
hiiiii :D
Actually sour cream onion prigles aren't vegan. they have milk powder
she reminds me of donna from that '70s show
Alaina O'Neill ya!!
Thank you! God, it's been killing me who she reminds me of!
No
No
🤣🤣🤣 your right.
There's a misconception with veganism and vegetarianism that you have to be 100 percent, but it's hard! It's not an easy lifestyle in the world we live in so I think as long as you are actively consuming less animal products, it's okay to get something you that might contain a small amount of animal product.
Also, most sugar companies do not make sugar with bone char.
Thank you❤
It's actually not hard if you cut the C.R.A.P. (calorie rich and processed) and stick with whole plant foods. I will agree with you it can be difficult to learn how to cook and prepare real foods with real ingredients if you've never done it and produce can be more expensive because of the corrupt taxpayer subsidies given to animal and junk food industries and the long distances overwhich produce is trucked. But even that can be overcome with some good cookbooks and RUclips tutorials. And if you're able to garden, you can save a ton and eat much better. If you like more traditional animal foods, Happy Herbivore has Tempeh bacon (tastes so much better than any faux products in the stores) and Engine II has a great tofu faux egg salad recipe... There are so many great cookbooks and recipes out there, you're sure to find just about anything for those occasional nostalgic meat and junk cravings. But honestly, when you start eating real foods, you feel better and you don't crave those things as much anymore...
Becca Martin is disagree. You either are or you aren’t. You can’t say you’re vegetarian if you still eat things with meat in. That makes you a non-vegetarian.
GuitarGuy Disagree. Even herbivores eat meat sometimes. Accidentally eating something with gelatine in it once in a while does not make you a shit vegetarian or not a vegetarian at all.
@@ofunne892 if it's an accident fair enough. But if you actively eat sweets with gelatine, you are not vegetarian.
I'm not even vegetarian or vegan but you can bet I won't be eating vanilla ice cream anymore.
Alyssa Marie right?! I can't look at it the same anymore. Beaver piss no thank u
it's also sometimes natural raspberry flavoring as well!
Magda Hernandez she said beaver butthole juice
www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/castoreum.asp
Alyssa Marie they don't even use it anymore
it's all either artifical or from vanilla beans
don't be dumb
I've been vegetarian for over a year now and have consumed so many of these things without knowing so thank you so much for this.
I actually knew 90% of the things. I never eat soup in a restaurant, only homemade ones. Don't worry if you accidently eat something wrong. You didn't do it on purpose
I accidentally ate a hotdog I wasn’t thinking 😭
@@litterkitty1280 that happens to me too
No the "natural flavoring" does not tend to be the beaver butt juice. It's really expensive and rarely used.
Natural flavouring in anything can be animal products though, so if there are things people like to avoid they should be mindful of natural flavouring as a whole.
I agree, I thought that a synthetic form of it is more widely used instead now.
It makes me so mad when I see "natural flavouring" in an ingredient list. It can mean virtually anything.
It's still quite often used in perfumes :/
Lea Eilers usually it's synthetic in perfumes too, actually.
When you said "beetlejuice" I had to resist saying it twice more...
It's upsetting that so many food products even include weird shit like that in the first place. I feel like the "mainstream" food in the US is so polluted.
french californian Most of it is junk and people don't care because "it tastes good".
@@brookepatterson4663 I’m from the us and ya that Is very true
I'm vegetarian. I don't eat meat. That's it
Bryn Wells but if you would really care about animals you would at least think about what you're eating and some of these things you should really do not eat if you are a vegetarian
Bryn Wells agreed. I don't eat meat or gelatin.
It really isn't the same, though. Giving up, if only meat, makes such an impact. Plus, everything is personal preference. I, myself, started by cutting out meat, then gelatin and things like that, until i became fully vegan. To put down someone for making an effort is ignorant. Giving up things that are so commonly used is tough, and not an option for a lot of people.
not everyone who is vegetarian is doing it because they care about animals feelings tho??
then you're not vegetairan, you just don't eat meat, if you were a vegetarian you wouldn't eat nothing that contains animal parts in it
this makes me afraid to eat anything that i didn't make/prepare D:
Kaylette i've been vegetarian since november but im really cautious with where and what i eat , mostly I make my own food (even tho im 13 , but i still love to cook) 😂 but since i don't eat from fast foods im ok , but you just gotta check the ingridients or download an app (i have "is it vegan?") that tells you if its vegetarian , vegan or if it contains meat dairy or the crazy shit like gelatin and stuff
thank you for the app suggestion! i'll check that out :)
Honestly the only thing you can do is ask questions about how the food was prepared if someone else cooked it, do your research about animal derived ingredients and then hope for the best. We all make mistakes sometimes but all you can do is learn and make sure not to do it again.
I am a very high raw vegan and do not struggle much at all because I eat mostly raw! Lots of fruit mostly! So maybe I could be considered pretty close to a fruitarian! I am also Non Celiac Gluten Sensitive so I can not have wheat anyways! I found gluten to be the number one cause of my suicidal depression and anxiety, so after cutting wheat out, I am much happier and even happier yet because I eat so many raw foods! With living enzymes and biophotons! I highly recommend trying to eat more raw because it's sooooo much easier! Yes it is a little more restrictive, but your health benefits increase and you don't really have to worry about looking at ingredients, so it is actually much simpler! I am even able to say that I am completely GMO free as well because of it! If I buy corn I buy it organic. If I buy edamame I buy it organic! Zucchini is also GMO, so buy organic or grow your own like I do! Also papaya is now GMO sometimes, so try to verify the farm or buy only organic. This is all for America by the way! There are not many GMO's in the produce department, so it's just a few foods to look out for! Most GMO's are shoved into packaged foods, so I don't worry about that! I do have a couple of favorite packaged products, but they are mostly condiments, like an artichoke bruschetta that is in sunflower oil! I will add a few tablespoons to nibble at on top of a huge tomato salad! Going high raw sounds hard, but it does become so simple once you have some favorite meals picked out! Packaged foods are just full of GMO's and I find them to be so scary!
I know right!
Caesar dressing has anchovies and i was soooo pissed to find out
Alex Espinoza 'Just' brand Caesar dressing. You're welcome, my friend. 😉
THANK YOU! I miss caesar salad so much!
Summer0234 You're welcome. ☺️ It is vegan, not sure if that matters to you. And it's usually at Target. 💁
Alex Espinoza try out the organic girl salad love brand it's vegetarian and really good
It's actually called Hampton Creek :)
sour patch kids are not vegan or vegetarian! !!!!!! they have red 40 in them 😣😣😣😣
gabriela garcia WHAAA did not even realize
Sarah Hawkinson good news!!! actually sour patch kids are 100% vegan, red dye #40 is usually vegan although sometimes it is not. But sour patch kids are vegan and they're on petas list of vegan candy :)
Red 40 itself is vegan, but it is tested on animals. Just found this out last night when looking up Faygo ingredients. :(
pk how is something that's been used for years still being tested I'm a bit skeptical. Not trying to be rude or anything but they already know it works what's the purpose of testing it?
+YesIAm not rude at all, no worries! i just found this out last night, so i am not really sure how accurate my information may be. i did a quick search and found this: "The dye is made from coal tar and petroleum, so each batch of dye must be tested on rats and mice, who are then euthanized after the testing." so each time a mix of red 40 is made, a sample from that batch has to be tested before the batch can be sent out for use, it seems.
Ps they have vegan frosted mini wheats at Whole Foods!!!! It's their brand
veganbeautyaddict , love your hair
You're a lifesaver. 💚
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUU
When you said *pesto* i freaking jumped.
There is definitely a lot to learn, especially with all the weird secret ingredients out there with ever changing names.. but don't feel pressured to be perfect! I was vegetarian for almost ten years (since I was 11) and now have been vegan for about 1 year and have definitely made mistakes along the way (especially when switching to cruelty-free beauty products) but... As long as your intentions are in the right place, anything is better than nothing, right? :)
Also carmine is in some makeup products (lipsticks, blushes etc.). I recomend avoiding these as well!
There's some product made from fish scales that's not uncommon in hair sprays and lipstick too.
+ Amy Bride it adds a shiney sheen to hair and lips
When you said cheesecake I started to panic then I remembered that I make my own cheesecake.
What is you definition of vegetarian? Because it sounds more like veganism
I think a lot of these still apply to a vegetarian lifestyle. What I go by is whether an animal had to die to produce the food I'm eating, and some of these do break that. Obvious things like the chicken or beef stock (which aren't hard to realize), but also the others like gelatin and some food coloring, animal fats, etc. I do agree that some of those she mentioned are more fitted to a plant based diet instead, but there were only about 2-3 of those.
All those mentioned required bones, tissues, or meat of animals. Veganism is that plus any thing produced from an animal. Vegetarianism is more about death, Veganism is more about death and exploitation.
If it had to die, like to get the lining of their stomach, bones, and tissues, them it's not vegetarian. But you do you.
If you're considering one of the 2 I would just go vegan. Lots of people think by going vegetarian they aren't contributing to the death of animals, but by supporting the egg or dairy industry you indirectly support the meat industry. Baby boy calves in the dairy industry are sent to a slaughterhouse after a few weeks of life to make veal because they can't produce milk. The boy chicks in the egg industry are literally thrown into a grinder fully conscious because they won't ever produce eggs and that's standard practice for ALL egg farmers/manufactures. Also the animals are often held in extremely poor conditions and treated horribly. Besides all that though, every animal in the egg or dairy industry will eventually end up at a slaughterhouse to be killed for meat. Cows when they no longer produce enough milk (after being forced to have countless babies that have all been stolen from them a day after they born), And hens after they no longer produce as many eggs.
+Kye !! Also cows milk is for BABY COWS. If we're drinking cows milk, then that means the baby cows aren't.
I'm deathly allergic to Red #4. Back when I was younger, whenever people would ask what it was made out of and I told them "beetles", they thought I was joking :/
Also, Red #4 is in Hawaiian Punch (found out the hard way)
Fuuuck why did I watch this
I'm not even vegetarian and here I am
trader joe's has vegan marshmallows!
I'm a lacto-ovo-vegetarian, i eat dairy products but I don't eat anything that requires killing an animal (such as meat and gelatin bc of the horse hooves)
yagurlrera I don't want to be THAT vegan (it's still great that you're helping by being vegetarian!) but the dairy and egg industries involve killing lots of animals, perhaps research it if you're concerned by this xx
Anna Clegg the milk and eggs i get come from my grandfathers farm so no killing is involved :) other dairy like yogurt and cheese I try to get from whole foods
yagurlrera oh really? that's great, I live near a "free range" farm & the amount of suffering is unreal, I'm glad your grandad's isn't so bad xx
yagurlrera dairy is cruel too
White sugar isn't vegan? Wtf?! White sugar is in everything! 😫
They usually are nowadays, in the UK they are now :)
ccap3211 Tbh it's really the differance between a sustainable vegan diet and an impossible, personally, and it's such a big debate but I think it's silly to exclude people who can't afford to avoid it when really eggs and dairy are the heart of vegan issues with food products.
Not all brands of white sugar are processed with bone char, so it is definitely worth looking into.
+ Maia F Brown sugar and stevia for life
Most of the sugar in Canada is vegan! The only brand that I know of that still uses bone char is rogers and that's only the Vancouver refinery that does! If the barcode on the bottom starts with a 10 it's not vegan but mainly the white auger here is vegan (redpath etc.)
Thank you so much for this video! I've been vegetarian for 6 years and some of these foods I had no clue weren't vegetarian
I've only been vegetarian for 4 months... but it feels like forever. I can't imagine it any other way. Vegetarian squad where you at???❤️
Me
Eyyy
Me ! I’m new too I’ve been vegetarian for 5 months
I'm a vegetarian and I'm all for animal protection, but things like this are why I'll never become vegan or super strict vegetarian. Like refusing a beer because an ingredient that I can't even pronounce Probably touched fish bladders ? I mean come on. I have a lot of respect for people who do it, but I'll never be that person. It was interesting to find out about some of them though !
olivia1910 the ingredient didn't touch fish bladders, it's derived from them
it's filtered most of the time with fish bladders. if you look it up on barnivore on your phone after you see a menu (or plan ahead and check on your computer after viewing the menu online), it's really not that difficult.
being vegan isn't about being perfect. no one's perfect and there are hidden animal ingredients in sooo many things. it's just a matter of checking ingredients (really easy) when you can and doing the best you can to avoid unnecessary harm.
olivia1910 do u know what they go with male baby chicks, calfs, piglets, SHEEP ? they grind up the male baby chicks alive, steal the calfs from the mothers and kick their heads. Put a hot rod on their bodies. And don't even get me started on sheep
There are vegan beers. And they are very common.
I really love how to note that vegetarianism and veganism is all a learning process...really important!
Great video! Do more on food vids like favs, shopping haul, mukbang
Thank you so much for making this!!!
I definitely did not know most of these things
there are parmesan/other cheeses i've found that use plant based rennet!
Do you know what brands?
@@avadickerson5143 the one i usually get is the BelGioioso Vegetarian Parmeasan, it's just in my grocery stores with all the other cheeses! it says vegetarian right on the lable though. there are definitely other brands too! the ingredients will say "vegetable rennet" or "microbial rennet" instead of animal rennet :^) hope that helps
@@unfauxgettable thank you!!!
for orange juice, what ingredient am i looking for in order to avoid it? fish oil, omega 3, anchovy juice lol etc?
jelly belly jelly beans dont contain gelatin anymore but they do use beeswax which is an obvious no no
and if you are vegan, DO NOT eat anything that contains WHEY or ENZYMES :))
beeswax is vegetarian tho, so it's not an obvious no no at all lol
ella unless you care about the bees and bee population.. yeah it is a no no
That doesnt hurt the bees. They make much more honey than they can eat with tons and tons of beeswax. The farms actually encourage the bee population. Buying bee products helps the bees
Because of pesticides. Like last year bee farmers woke up to find their colonies dead, due to spraying for mosquitoes in SC. The overspraying would kill them with or without bee farmers.
Yoplait yogurt and Pop Tarts also contain gelatin as well as some Planters nuts (they use it to adhere seasoning to them)
One time I bought tortilla chips and after eating them i realized there was fish oil in them. like whyyy
Also I heard that some peanuts will have gelatin added
I saw the cheese you love (caramelized onion) at Trader Joe's today and picked it up to confirm. I have good news for you. NOT ALL RENNET IS CREATED EQUAL! You can eat microbial rennet as a vegetarian--it is made from yeast, molds, and fungi. Just be on the lookout for animal rennet. If something simply says "rennet," it is best to put it down. Hope that helps!
Just a note: if marshmallows/gelatin filled foods are labeled as kosher they usually use vegetable gelatin. same for foods that have rennet but that are labeled as kosher! i can't be sure about every item/time, but I'm pretty sure that usually they just use vegetable based rennet and gelatin. :]
GracieFL isn't kosher gelatin derived from fishes ? I read that somewhere , i mean i still avoid them nust to be sure
i could be wrong, i had just always been told it was usually vegetable gelatin
GracieFL this is sometimes true but often kosher gelatin comes from fish
Love this video! Definitely learned something new! I actually thought rennet was an ingredient listed... smh. Now to take more time reading labels
I did not know 99% of this.... #badvegetarian
Hey! I would like to learn more about this hair color! Did you dye it yourself?
If a vanilla ice cream is labeled kosher, it can't have castoreum in it. Handy tip. :-)
BarefootDreamer59 Very helpful. Probably guessing because castoreum qualifies as “unclean animal origin”.
Some cereals won't have gelatin in it if you buy unprocessed kinds.. like just puffed wheat, all natural cereals without any additions can be eaten by a vegetarian, vegan...
I'm actually allergic to anchovies...some steak sauces have it also :(
As a relatively new vegetarian, this was so helpful!
im sad about the sushi...i went full on vegetarian right away not thinking about my beloved sushi..but it was tol late
JessicaListens what really 😂
JessicaListens order avocado rolls and veggie rolls when you go to sushi places! I loveee them with some soy sauce wasabi and ginger
There's a type of vegetarian that allows you to eat fish! There also have been studies where fish don't actually feel, they just have that fight/flight reaction that plants also have!
Nicole Anna fish actually can feel and have very good memories, I wouldn't rely on those studies because it's not fair to compare these creatures to plants
when i go to sushi places i always order avocado, pickle and yellow radish makis! those are totally vegetarian, you can eat those!
I'm not going to stop eating all of these just yet. Yesterday I went two weeks clean so I'm just starting out. I'll keep these in mind for when I adjust to what I'm giving up now. Does anyone have any suggestions for an early starter?
Im not a vegetarian but Im so excited to watch this video
I had a parmesan pizza. I looked at the ingredients and it said *'microbial rennet'* (deprived from plants). Would this be in the parmesan cheese or some other ingredient?
love the hair sarah!
thank you so much for making this! I went vegetarian last April for moral reasons and I was really looking for things I can and can't eat. I'm so distraught about mini wheats and gummy worms. I already knew the gelatine is a thing that we can't eat but I really like gummy stuff....
When I became vegan a couple years ago I was so excited to start on a new journey. But, I made sooo many mistakes. You learn from them so just keep going! Watch out for vitamin D3 as well if you are vegan. Derived from sheep wool:)
Also most yogurt (at least like 5-6 years ago when I was vegetarian, I've been vegan for quite awhile now) contained gelatin. I always got the stony field farms kind or fage Greek yogurt. This all makes me glad I like to cook my own whole foods at home. I remember I used to never eat soup because of the broth but now I make it at home a lot.
....how did y'all not know that French onion soup is made with beef broth?
Emily Johnson I've eaten like 4 different kinds and none of them ever stated any meat ingredients? "Vegetable broth" never beef :) just check the ingredients don't generalize
S. Ee genuine French onion soup is beef stock though, vegetarian versions exist but they're not what one expects if they order it
Emily Johnson Ikr!! first thing I stopped eating when I gave up meat and French onion soup was a favourite
yeah that one got me. I did find a place that makes one with a mean beer broth instead though (although i cant say for sure the beer is vegan).
I didn't. The soup can was marked as being vegetable so I bought it without reading the label. 😣 Learned my lesson though, lol.
I had no idea about pesto! I just went and checked the jar I have and it doesn't explicitly say it's suitable for vegetarians, so thank you for making this!!
Carmine also hides under the name E-120 !!
Are you sure the rennet was taken from the stomachs of calves? Because most of the rennet used to make hard cheeses in the US is actually taken from certain kinds of yeast or mold.
I'm trying to be a good vegetarian, lol! Thank you for this, very interesting! I learned something new today, loved it!
Do you know any vitamin gummy things that don’t have gelatine in it? Just found out mine had gelatine in it
I didn't actually know pesto had Parmesan in it until like 6 months into being vegan!
also! poptarts have gelatin in the frosting and I didn't know until I was reading the package and eating it that it had gelatin!!! spat it out immediately of course
Dan F same , but i was hust straight up stupid cuz i was eating a s'mores one , and marshmallows contain gelatin already , bit still after that i felt so bad 😂
Dan F no offense but spitting it out after you already bought it doesn't help anyone unless your allergic or something. You should give the rest to a friend so it doesn't go to waste
Alex S. she should give what was in her mouth to her friend? Vegans are in it for the health benefits also, animal products are horrible for your body why would she induce that on her friend?
Rennet can also be vegetable based, but it's often not specified whether it's calf rennet or not.
That's why being vegan is easier :v. You can make your own cheap milk (soy, coconut, rice, almodn, etc), your own cheese (many recipies), our own jelly, your own everything without worries.
Thank you so much for this video! I just became a vegetarian last year and I still eat a few of these things (not anymore though) so this was very helpful for a new vegetarian who's still learning.💚💚
Rennet is from a baby cows stomach and they put it in the cheese to help humans digest it. We are not designed to digest it.
your videos have been (even more) A+ recently!! Love your ideas and how your mind seems to work ! Keep em coming if you enjoy doing them, for definite.
pesto???? omg nooo parmesan cheese???? omg nooooooo
Thank you for this video! A few of these I didn't know. Like orange juice!? Really? Why? x.x
I dont want to eat anything anymore
Alexis G same, I’m done with food for now lol
Poptarts have gelatine in which I didn't know and also for people in the U.K. A lot of Mr Kipling brand cakes have carmine or cochineal in which includes the cherry in a cherry bakewell! So that's like battenburg, angel cake and pink French fancies etc
I'd love to be vegetarian or vegan but this is a main reason I can't. So many things you can't eat or drink, and under different names. Like I'd never know the red dye isn't vegetarian. I do what I can by choosing more vegan or vegetarian alternatives (Like i usually drink almond milk instead of cows milk, or getting veggie burgers instead of beef) but that's the best I can do. My diet is also horribly limited by allergies and stuff :/
Adrian Maxwell I can't eat gluten and lots of other stuff too so I understand :/ it's hard?!
At least your trying but as you learn you'll realise how easy it is to be vegan/veggie, I always thought that vegan was to hard until I realised you have easily excusable alternatives for everything😊
Vegetarian, vegan or not reading the ingredients list is SOO IMPORTANT. Knowing what you're consuming is important!
Thank you so much for this! I learned so much from this (':
Every step counts of being more plant-based 💚
I eat refried beans but my grandma and my dad make it from scratch so not out of the can, that means I can still eat it right?
When you said 'Caesar dressing' I literally cried
Many cheeses that have rennet now have microbial rennet, which is not from an animal :) at least in Australia
So happy sour patch kids are vegan
I'm very strict on gelatin and broth used in food ... because it makes me always sick if I just eat it
living in worcestershire for 14 years of my life, i find it so funny watching americans trying to pronounce worcestershire (:
Millie Jones HOW DO YOU SAY IT??? I am so uncomfortable with my pronunciation of it!
I pronounce it worst-eh-shur. Is that correct?
Catarina Silva no❤️
How do you know if a cheese has "Rennet" in it? Does the package list this?
Not sure why you'd care about the gelatin in cheesecake and not the dairy? which is just as detrimental to animals and has negative affects on the body, which I assume is why many people become vegan/vegetarian anyway.
Danielle H yeah but for the gelatin they HAD to kill the animal , the didn't kill the cow for milk , so in my opinion i don't find it bad
Instead the cows are tethered and locked indoors, constantly impregnated, used for their milk and has the calves abruptly taken away (many killed for meat). Also they are killed about 4-5 years in, which is a fraction of the normal life expectancy. Not sure if death or constant depressing living conditions is worse. Still very cruel to the animals and not much of a life worth living for the animal....
I get what you're saying though, just seems like neither are great options
This video was about vegetarianism, not veganism. :)
Yeah that is true, but the whole point of not eating animals is because it's cruel. But the dairy industry is just as cruel, treating the animals like trash then killing them after a few years. So essentially they are still being killed, just after using their bodies for milk. Seems almost as bad.
Gelatin is necessary to refine the frosted sugar. Switch tp steel cut oatmeal.
BEAVER BUTT JUICE?! WTAF?! Who tried that for the first time?!
It was probably an accident. A beaver sprayed and somebody just happened to be in the line of fire and was like.....you know what...that's pretty tasty
Thank you for this!!!! I just became pescatarian about 6 months ago and I had no idea about any of these except the soups!
Sis always look stuff up, better if its vegan. Im vegetarian and lit af
I was just wondering, are some of the things Sarah mentioned, not allowed in the UK but are in the US? Because I think quite a few colourings/chemicals used in America are sometimes illegal here?
I'm not a vegetarian and I still don't like the idea of there being hidden animal products in things, especially when cooking for those avoiding them for moral reasons >.
To me, vegetarian means strictly not eating meat. These would fall under being vegan in my opinion, but it is good information to know!
because you’re right! vegetarianism only excludes meats by dictionary definitions
the official definitions of vegetarian:
•a person who does not eat meat, and sometimes other animal products, especially for moral, religious, or health reasons.
•relating to the exclusion of meat or other animal products from the diet.
the key word is “sometimes” and “or” meaning it’s up to the individual and not by vegetarianism
Regarding the red food colouring, it may also be labelled as E120. Also you need to do research on your wines, most wine is made using fish guts to make the liquid clearer. However if you research its easy enough to find a veggie one.
Swedish fish gummies are vegan
lengua muerta Great I love Swedish fish!
Castoreum is super expensive to harvest and no one uses it in ice cream. The castoreum currently used in flavouring is not animal derived. You can find more information on sites like the Vegetarian Resource guide. They have a really good article about this.
nooo not the mini wheats 😣
It's so refreshing to see someone say that being a veggie/vegan is a learning process and that it's okay to make mistakes along the way. so many people are so militant about it so, its lovely to have someone that accepts it's natural to not be perfect at it straight away!
Beaver butt ice cream.. NO THANKS
About carmine: i think my father once mentioned that it was originally made from beetles but now it's made from something else (?) and it's save to eat but idk for sure

gelatin can be used as a preservative so there's actually ALOT more products with it in it that you wouldn't think. Even things like makeup, like alot of pressed glitter has it as a preservative so it doesn't mold.
