As someone who has been in Youth Ministry for 15 years and was also IN a youth group in 2003, I gotta say that I was *listening* to this while I worked, and had NO trouble recognizing which year you were doing.... I kinda miss that '03 stuff.
You captured 2003 so perfectly. You're quickly becoming one of my favorite RUclips comedians. I wasn't Christian then but my best friend was and Youth Group was really funny so I'd always tag along with her.
When I was volunteering in a parish in Southern Louisiana, I met kids named Pascal,Etienne, Boudreaux, Telismar, and Cyprienne. By the time I greeted everyone, it was time to leave 🙂 Cajun names are beautiful, but for the uninitiated they can twist the tongue 🤔

@@laurahorn My son's Confirmation preparation is two years here in SoCal. He's two months away from being Confirmed and he dropped out 2 weeks ago because "preparation" has been been such a joke. He's going to do an adult Confirmation prep class next year instead.

No kappas... täällähän on värikästä porukkata... Oh yeah, the one with the teacher alone in a Zoom meeting with a child... Protestant churches can Matthew 18 have the person leave when witnesses show they are unrepentantly pushing sin, but in the same way, the person can Matthew 18 the pastoral leadership according to John 14 and 16 authority they have in Christ that’s above even church leadership if the church leadership rejects the Word of God.
This is how a protestant congregation will remove a pastor accused of sexual sin. The sinners removal can come from the bottom up, not only the top down according to Matthew 18 and Jesus is authority being on those who are believers who stand for christ mindedness according to the authority of Christ at all believers can access as long as they stay completely with and on Christ’s side. Innoway that’s part of why Martin Luther rebuke the Catholic Church when they were trying to sell indulgences to be able to sin in the future. Martin Luther did have authority in Christ to reject what the churches authority said. And Martin Luther never wanted to start a second church, he just wanted to reform the sinful behaviors within the church.
I'm starting to get the feeling than youth group was cringe and... bible-less... back in 2003 too. I'm glad the one at my church is more bible study style. I like games, but I don't like games, you know?
My son got turned off on church by a youth pastor who, rather than talk with the teens, lectured while writing on a whiteboard. Unfortunately, the youth pastor lost about half of the middle school/high school group. The really sad thing was that the youth pastor never contacted kids to learn why they had stopped coming to church.
Oh, I could watch an hour of that. The funniest thing I've seen this week. But, I would like you to expand this to do 1962 and today and 1896 and today. Subbed!
Laura, you are hilarious! I came onto RUclips to get a video for my degree and got distracted by the fact that you had a new video out. You and Trent make such a great team! When are you going to go on tour???
I remember we would do the "pass the lemon game" in high school....one of the most disturbing things I ever witnessed. You better believe I did not partake in such an act.
I got put in charge of leading physical team building and looking them up online I only found a few clean ones where the kids were not to be too physically with each other so after a quarter of the year (when it was winter so water tossing games were out of the question) I just gave up on the physical aspect because the other leader wanted pass the lemon/Cheerio and such and I had to keep explaining how that wasn’t Godly fun for the young teens and she eventually figured out I was right to keep saying no. We eventually landed on more funny speech/creative project based things were better than the physical games. One example being having them make posters and speeches together trying to sell the moon and other ridiculous items to each other. Another being the “nailed it” cake decorating challenge. Much better!
"That sounds retarded." Call me retarded, but that made me laugh so hard bc it's so TRUE. I understand why it's not okay to say it now, however, the way we used it back then was pretty true to its definition.
“Liam” looks like a burglar who walked in on Laura having a mental break down on how to close technology and is now just confused and slightly terrified for his own safety 😂 Also, maybe find a more flattering dress for Trent to get him on board? Not saying it’s an ugly dress, but the dark floral look isn’t always flattering for some people 😋
omgosh. I think this is probably your second or third best video. So funny and so. True. Youth Group in the early 2000s was so weird...and Pope Francis....no comment
I understand some of this being that in my late teen years I went to an Assembly of God church. Before that I grew up in a predominantly African American church. Youth nights seem a bit different from this. Lol Anyway the most shocking thing for me is not realizing MySpace existed in 2003. I was a freshman in college I didn’t find out about MySpace until 2006 and my 15 yr old cousin helped me set up a page. The rest is history….

Let's hear it for eccuminism!
I was thinking the same thing. We 100% played these in my youth group circa 2007-2011.
According to Vatican II ecuminism is only between apostolic churches(Orthodox, Oriental orthodox) not with protestants 😊
