You are a true Man not many men would take the time to care for a sick spouse. You and men like you are truly the definition of a man. I hope many young men will learn from videos of how real men should be. There are not a lot of men like you and my hubby out there.
I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes as I watch this video. I am 66 years old and I too have a sick wife and I have had some medical issues myself that limit what I can do. Recently I have had a perpetual pitty party as I look at our situation and wonder if we even have future. You have given me the ability to look beyond the problems and start from where we are to build a future. There aren't enough words to thank you for this video. May God richly bless you.
I just wanted to tell you that my wife and I watch all your videos, and every time you start your video and you raise both your arms in the air we raise ours at the same time. I was wondering if there is a couple thousand other people doing the same thing at that precise moment. How cool is that? Keep doing what you do brother, you are loved. Red and Patsy
My daughter and I have gotten by on $600 a month for several years now and we pay rent. Our neighbors don't know how we do it. I agree with you. Folks often confuse WANTS with NEEDS. Our one big luxury is internet. However it is our only source of entertainment, and it comes with our only phone so for the cost I feel it is worth it. Hat off to you for standing by your wife. TY for posting.
Autumnprepper TY Autumn. Many folks don't understand our simplistic lifestyle. You should see the look on peoples faces when I tell them that we don't have a cell phone or cable T.V.. Blows their mind. They act like we are deprived or something. LOL! Funny. We don't feel deprived. We look at them all stressed out and drowning in debt and we feel blessed. :-)
I know this comment is 7 years late, but thank you for posting videos and being so open in this one. This video sums up basically everything my dad taught me on our farm growing up. My dad has to take care of my mom too though my mom is not entirely handicapped she has her health issues. I have great respect for men - real men, selfless like how God intended them to be - who are willing to take care of the families God gave them. I'm away at college now, but I have a dream of starting a homestead or just adding on to my grandparents farm. Your videos fuel that dream! I'm so glad there are more people out there like my dad. Thanks again! I'll be praying for you and yours!
John, your greeting in your videos is perfect! It gives a "welcome to my porch, sit a stay a while" feeling to your videos! One of the better moments in my day is when I see you uploaded a video. I grab a cup of coffee and sit a spell with you. You are one of the supermen of our society because of the devotion you have toward your wife and children, the love you put into making your home safe and comfortable for them. That old saying, For me and my house, we serve the Lord fits. God bless and until next time....
Now everyone knows why you are the brother of my heart!! Right from the first Video I ever saw..Love you John!!! Second week of July..Howie booked it today!
OurHalfAcreHomestead Bev are you traveling through Ohio to see John?? You should stop and see me on the way!! :O) I am just a few hours north of him. I would love to have you for a visit.

I just found you and this is the first video of yours I watched, but it will not be the last. I turned 35 yesterday, and this year has been full of important changes in my life. For a couple years now I've been thinking about homesteading, but now my wife and I are starting to make plans for it. I like your way of thinking. Funny, when you mentioned "what do you do for a living," I answered outloud: "I (want to) live for a living" before you said it. Thanks for this video!!! Greetings from Croatia.
You're a great guy! Your family members are lucky to have each other. I'm an urban homesteaders in Florida, and I began living a self-sufficient lifestyle for some of the same reasons as you. I love your channel.
You touched my heart so much with the story of your wife. I had a massive stroke 6 years ago at the age of 49 and it was the kind you either die from or left a vegetable but the Good Lord decided something different for me and I lived with very few noticeable side affects. I live in a hollar in the Appalachian mountains of KY and when I moved here my goal was to live as you do. My husband is a truck driver and he's gone a lot but he to was my guard dog through my worst days and stayed by my side through it all. Now that I'm better I have been able to plant a garden ( started small ) and last year planted 2 gardens and maintained them myself plus canned. I raise a small group of chickens and this year I plan to expand that also. I'm so glad I found your your RUclips site and looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.
I'm in awe of you. I totally respect the husband you are. I was a nurse for 27 years, I'm now disabled and just am astounded and totally blown away at you're dedication and love. What a terrific human being you are. God Bless you sir.
What a man! This is a feel good video, I loved watching it, thank you for taking the time to make it and explain your lifestyle. I'm certain you have a better life than I do. I have a longing for a more simple lifestyle and love watching and learning from you. Keep up the great ministry. Blessings.
wow.if what you say is true.you are a real man.you take care of your disabled wife.and raise your kids.and you take care of your homestead which is a big job in itself.plus maintain your own self . after hearing that I had to subscribe.you are a breath of fresh air in a horrible world.wow.much respect to you and yours :-)
Had to stop to say hello! I just stumbled upon your videos and I am so happy I did. Fellow homesteader here learning things as I go along and LOVE your videos! Subscribed and continuing to watch more! City girl with a big family who chose to move to the country and start homesteading! Keep doing what your doing! Have a great day!
my hats off to you brother. it sounds like you have had some tough times but made the best of it. you have an attitude that more people need to have. God bless.
Glad I found your channel several weeks ago. I came across it as I was contemplating starting raising meat rabbits. I enjoy the connection on a common sense level. Here's to many more years of being successful!
You are my inspiration John. I've followed your channel but don't always listen to the coffee chats...wow I'm glad I did on this one. I knew I liked you from video one on bunnies...and your fishing videos because I loved my brother so much who loved fishin & chattin. But the fact that you got started as a homesteader to nurse your wife & raise your family...wow. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself & the how-tos on your videos are great. I wanna come and buy some bunnies from you :) I saw that interview with the old timer who lived deep in the hills and told what he did for a living..."I live". lol - you sell what you can, you use your muscles when you can, you plant, you hunt, you forage, you pray and...you live.
You have giving me so much inspiration to focus on living life, and enjoying life its self...Me and my wife have both worked "successful" jobs but its never fulfilling no matter how much you make. I now stay at home with my 2yr old son and my wife works..just the way things worked out..but we are on the path to living life, getting dept free, leaving the big city, buying land, and living on the land, and most important of it all focusing on the family. I just wanted to say thanks for your videos...hopefully one day i'll be doing my own starting from the beginning of our family's new life. Just keep it up, and god bless you, brother....This was always a dream for me, but you showed me it can be a reality.
Thank you for sharing all you have in this video. You have helped and inspired us to keep moving forward. We have learned a lot from you approach and truly appreciate what you do. Thank you brother and may the good Lord continue to bless you.
True self reliance!! Your story is inspiring! You hit a main point, it is a lot of work, this is what stops most people. Thanks for sharing, God be with you and your family!!! Lee
Jnullo, you are sooooo right about "There are no problems". In fact there is an old saying that goes like this...The problem , is not the problem, the problem is, how to solve the problem.
Wow. I just found your channel tonight and binge watched for much longer than I should've. I've really enjoyed all the videos I've watched but this one... This one hit my heart. You're inspiring and you are a prime example of the kind of men we need more of in today's society. You are a genuine and noble man, John. God bless you.
What an inspiration you are. 'A penny saved, is a penny earned'. So true. Thank you for teaching us all how to live on less as well as teach us the meaning of, "where there is a will, there is a way". Your children are learning so much from your life. Not just about farming and living off the land, but how to come together as a family and work and take care of each other.
You sir, are an amazing man & a true example of what a man should be like. Thank you for your example to others & for your videos to teach & share with others. I'm praying for God's storehouse of blessings to be opened for you & showered upon you & your family. May God bless you & favor you & cause others to favor you.
You're truly an inspiration. This chat really helps me understand your story and makes me respect yinz and yours 1000x more. You're a good man and a good dad.
you are a humble kind man, I too am disabled and I don't know what I would do without my husband, you and someone else's channel are my two favorite channels and today I learned that bobs your uncle it's your sister, love you both!♡
I just came across your channel, and all I can say is “ God blessed you for your courage and manliness!” I grew up in Massillon. Been in California since ‘77. You make me proud to be a buckeye. Thank you!
Glad to find you're videos. We have been homesteading for over 20 yrs and we're still learning! It's refreshing to come across someone so humble, it seems so many today are into trying to out do one another, or the ole' one upsmanship . We too believe as you, it takes time but it's so worth it to be free. We're cutting back on our electrical use, by as you said switching to LED, heating with wood, insulating, replacing windows in our 1910 farm house. The beginning of our journey was our daughter's neurologic disease and brain tumors. You nailed it, looking forward to more coffee moments and videos :)
your care for your wife, to stay by her side during the toughest part of a persons life, to teach your children its important to stay by your spouse for better or worse is not only honorable but something most people just don't understand. things get tough they just get divorce instead of honoring each other by taking care of them..... You my friend are a honorable true man among many who are just a man by the chromosomes. My grandfather after a heart attack spent 60 days in icu said during that time he saw the light and a voice saying "i sense a hesitation", grandpa told the voice "yes, my wife has been sick and I need to take care of her". he later came out of icu and spent the next 3 yrs taking care of her. She died but 4 weeks to the day he died. The lord allowed him to honor his commitment to his wife. So your story brought wonderful memories of my grandparents. thank you for sharing. . you are THE MAN.
Hey John, I respect you man. Take it a day at a time and enjoy the love! They can't buy the peace you have. Be strong and know we appreciate you a lot for sharing info. You are a survivor. God Bless!
You are truly an inspiration dude. I've been wanting to start a homesteading lifestyle for a while now, but it's hard coming up with the money to start. I don't own land, so I know that's the first obstacle I have to overcome, But I feel once that is dealt with the rest will fall into place in it's own time. But hearing you talk about the same ideas I've had for a long time is inspiring. Thank you for making this video. And I'm definitely subscribing.
I'm so interested to hear the way you started into homesteading. But never feel like you have to explain to folks how you make your living. I'm old enough to be your mother, and I would be so proud of a son with your ethics.
You are a very strong and blessed person. I admire you for what you do and have done for your family and your viewers. You make us better just by listening to your testimony of your life and faith. God will keep blessing you and your family because you are a "good man".
Wow, jnull0! My admiration for your dedication to your wife and family is now zoing'ed to the n'th power. I ran across your channel courtesy of Bev at OurHalfAcreHomestead a while back and ck you both out almost every day. I had no idea of the life struggles of your sweetheart Lupita, and this chat has answered some questions I was too afraid to ask out loud or type on a comment board. While I'm just a city girl from AL living in TN, its obvious to me there is much love and joy in this world through your videos. So, from this sub, thanks for sharing your story, continue to be the "dud-e-ologist", enjoy your "holy crap that's good coffee", and just block any of the naysayers. My adult daughters are at the opposite ends of the ruler; one is a registered nurse off to grad school soon, and the other has Aspergers (Autism umbrella) who lives with me, but my struggles pale in comparison to yours. (ps, I think the up hands gesture stands for touchdown!!) MJ
You are a great man and Husband for sticking with your wife through illness and continuing to love cherish and take care of her! Also homesteading and going to be debt free you are great example to others.
Watching you play around on the videos is hilarious!! But putting all that aside, you are without a doubt the hard workingest dad and hubby ive seen ina long time! May god bless you john!
This is so beautiful.... You give my husband and I much hope! We have a cabin in the Smoky Mountains of NC off the grid...just starting homesteading! I am disabled. May the Lord bless you & your sweet wife & family.... Thankyou so much!!!! Please keep up the vids!
Okay I've been all over the place - youtube, kindle, books, internet - and you're the first "homesteader" that I've seen that I simply adore. I'd give just about anything to pick your brain for information and tips and your experiences and what worked/didn't work what you eat and how you eat it. So happy your wife has someone who loves her as much as you do and I'm sure it goes both ways. Plus - in more ways than that - you're setting fabulous examples for those kids. Way to go my friend.
You are such an inspiring, and compassionate man. I am so glad that I found your channel. You are a blessing to your family and I know they are a blessing to you as well. God bless.
Juno I commend you for your bravery and honesty and willingness to take on what you've done.my heart goes out to you.keep your videos coming I enjoy watching them.
I think you should write a book! I'm serious. You should document your life every step of the way. You are an inspiration to so many people and having it all in print would not only be a wonderful resource for others, but what an amazing walk through history for your children and generations to come! That would be a wonderful legacy to leave! And, by the way, I would buy a copy! God Bless from a fellow Buckeye!
What an incredible story. I've seen a few of your videos and never knew about your wife. You are a one of a kind man and have an awful lot to be proud of.
Good for you for not giving up on your life or your wife. Much respect. I'm looking at starting that life as a single man at 49 years on 2-3 acres. You're my inspiration.
I have to say John that the life you chose most would not have traveled. I worked in a nursing home back in my 20's and seen families put their loved ones in there and would visit them often at first....then the visits got to where they where only once a month, then holidays till no visits at all. Really heartbreaking to watch! I said then I would never put my family in a nursing home, can't do it! I have taken care of my dad for 14 years and 9 years by myself since my husband passed. It has not been easy by no means, but you do what you have to do to make it. It's a mindset I guess is what I am trying to say John....guess some of us are wired different than others. I have been called a fixer before, guess I want to fix everything, lol! Thanks for sharing John and God Bless you and your family, xxxx
God bless you and your family . I just subscribed . Love your videos . We are just starting to homestead , it is slow going and worth every single blister we get . The world does need more men like you and my husband . Keep up the great work !
John, whst my parents taught me about doing it yourself and gardening etc. Got me further in life then my education. What ever works for you. God bless...
If only so many other folks could see the world the way you do. The world would be a better place all around! Watching your videos here in 2021... The homesteading and just living for a living plan is looking more and more desirable every day. Thank you for your knowledge, common sense and practical outlook. You are an inspiration even these years after you made this video. Thank you!
I'm kind of in the same situation, but caring for my handicapped little sister now for 10yrs.I took care of my elderly Mom last 7yrs of her life.My daughter has helped me in the past, but she had to go back to work,so now I look after 5yr old granddaughter.I haven't had a break in 3yrs and have spent a total of 5 dollars in clothes for myself in 7yrs.I pray everyday for God to give me wisdom of how to care for my family. You are an inspiration John.I've subscribed.
Hello John.... I'm not addicted to anything in life but after watching one of your videos I do admit " I'm hooked" . You not only come across as a good father and husband but a "GOOD" man as well not to mention one hell of a "DUDE". I do get strength from your words and your power to move on no matter what comes your way. Your love of God and family keeps me coming back to watch anything new you post. May you and your family be blessed always and the bad in life be behind you and the all the good shine on all of your futures.
I completely agree. I've never been happier than I am here. Making enough money to live has been a real problem with me. I do a lot of crochet and would like to start spinning my own yarn and thought about getting French Angora rabbits. They're fur can be spun and you can also butcher them for meat, not to mention the bunnies I could sell for pets! At least I'm still thinking......
Mel, the wifey and I love your videos too. Not only are you smart and hardworking, but you have a fun light spirit about you. Hoping that one day soon your subscribers and views will make you enough on youtube to supply you with what you need. If financially I could, I'd donate. Broke as a joke though- lol .Bless y'all both.
I enjoyed your video I live a lot like you and your family. my kids are all growen they left for a while. but there coming back. and bring the grand kid's home to learn from the old. we got three houses here now. I love this life it's what being a true free America is. God,and family. Jerry
do you have a Seasonal Homestead Activity chart ??. Things you must do every season, for the homestead to keep it moving forward? If so , can you talk about this organizing technique of yours. thank you for your many wonderful shares..and inspirational vids.
Amen brother! God bless you and your family. I also have started taking step to help my family and it's in part due to you and your channel. Thanks and keep up the good work.
When I developed MS, my hubby decided that working for a large engineering firm that sent him all over the country might not be the best way for him to take care of me. I didn't ask, I didn't even suggest such a thing, he just came home one day and said that he wanted to buy property in Colorado and get me out of the south with its shitty doctors and shittier weather. We started selling our properties in southern states and are in the process of getting a farm started, a farm for organic, heirloom apples. I am pretty sure that it will not be off grid, well not completely but since he is brilliant at what we call redneck engineering besides the real engineering I am sure he can make anything work. We are lucky in that we have plenty to start with, not so lucky that the life I knew was gone in an instant but I am very grateful that I have a husband who is not a jerk and would run off the minute I got sick. Too many times we hear those stories in the newspapers of wealthy, famous men bugging out on their sick wives.
My husband and I are homesteaders and new to you tube. We are just getting ours up and running. We have enjoyed and learned many useful task which we use frequently. Thank you and keep the video's coming. Regina at Cowan Station Honey Farm in Kentucky.
Wow. I just came across your channel we are thinking about homesteading and you are such a inspiration. My husband is also in poor health and could become paralyzed at anytime and nothing scares me more than trying to take care of everything myself. But after watching this I know think after things are set up. I can do alot of it. Thank you so much 💕. I will be watching everything you put out. God bless you and your family
Much love & respect for you and yours from me & mine here in Western ky. I show my son your videos as an example of what a real man is. Thank you for being you.
"In sickness and in Health"-- More than words you just say to get to the Kiss and the Cake.!! Blessings
Amen!!

Not just about farming and living off the land, but how to come together as a family and work and take care of each other.
I really enjoyed this coffee chat. I understand what you are going through. Isn't it amazing, that through necessity, we find what we enjoy in life?
You are a beautiful human! I love the way you think. We need more people like you in this world. Thank you for being an example to so many others!!
You sir, are an amazing man & a true example of what a man should be like. Thank you for your example to others & for your videos to teach & share with others. I'm praying for God's storehouse of blessings to be opened for you & showered upon you & your family. May God bless you & favor you & cause others to favor you.
Now I understand what it really means to be rich. I thank you for sharing your story.
You're truly an inspiration. This chat really helps me understand your story and makes me respect yinz and yours 1000x more. You're a good man and a good dad.
you are a humble kind man, I too am disabled and I don't know what I would do without my husband, you and someone else's channel are my two favorite channels and today I learned that bobs your uncle it's your sister, love you both!♡
You're a good man. They're lucky to have you, don't forget. Resourceful too. Subscribed.
Excellent, dedicated, loyal and determined. Im so happy to see people like ya'll...Thank you
I'm so interested to hear the way you started into homesteading.
Amen, all I can say is Amen. I am not there yet but working towards it.
God Bless you Sr!!! Your wife and family are very blessed to have a caring and special man like you!!
That's my Little Brother!!
my wife and I lost our youngest daughter to Aspergers/diebetice when she was 19 my prayers to you
You are a great man and Husband for sticking with your wife through illness and continuing to love cherish and take care of her! Also homesteading and going to be debt free you are great example to others.

Great video. Stumbled on your channel this morning and I've been immersed in it ever since. This is LIVING.
This is so beautiful....

We have a cabin in the Smoky Mountains of NC off the grid...just starting homesteading!
I am disabled. May the Lord bless you & your sweet wife & family....
Thankyou so much!!!! Please keep up the vids!
My brother died in 2011 of the exact same thing only 46 years old. Your a wonderful devoted husband. Bless you!
God bless.
Much respect, sir.
Amazing story. Thank you for sharing. I wish you and family continued success.
Good man. I'm glad I found your channel on my journey to homesteading.
God Bless you and your family..what a refreshing perspective!..thanks for sharing.
I love the way you think ,great way to live
John, may I say that you are a very wise man, well done. Thanks for sharing your life with me today God bless you & your family.
You're genuinely a good dude, John. You have taught me a lot, and for that I thank you. Keep on keepin on.
I believe your life lessons is a blessing to others. You have a big heart, and I appreciate you sharing with us!
Amazing humble guy, God bless u all!

Things you must do every season, for the homestead to keep it moving forward?
If so , can you talk about this organizing technique of yours.
thank you for your many wonderful shares..and inspirational
vids.
Really admire you and your family. Your'e a good solid person with good morals, kind heart, all put together with a bit of humor.
My husband and I are homesteaders and new to you tube. We are just getting ours up and running. We have enjoyed and learned many useful task which we use frequently. Thank you and keep the video's coming. Regina at Cowan Station Honey Farm in Kentucky.
