Hi.... I am so pleased that ... at last... you come to my City... Wilujeng Sumping di Bandung! Welcome to Bandung....
Cilok is an abbreviation of "aCI dicoLOK" ... It's a pierced steamed savory tapioca ball.... Usually has it's own fillings, some mutton, beef or goat fat, well that's an old school CiLok 😀. I Aggree with Nikki.. because Cilok is tasty though... 😀.
Modern CiLok is mixed with other snacks like Seblak or Served with some kind of savory broth with beef ribs or konro... you should have to explore Bandung's diverse cullinary journey to find and eat modern cilok.
Cilok usualy sold near elementary school and kids buy cilok during breaks . Cilok has siblings :-D called Cireng or Savory Fried Tapioca dough also served with peanut sauce but usually mildly spicy.
By the way.... Bandung was built by the Dutch to be the Capital City of Dutch Indies (not Jakarta) back then... The Ducth likes Bandung's cool atmosphere than the hot Batavia (Jakarta). During that period Bandung divided into 2 distinct region... The North (north side of rail way) is for The Dutch Residential and offices Area, you still can find more European Atmosphere in certain part of the City... While the South (south side of the rail way) is the home of Bandung's indigenous fighters

If you're still in bandung please trying Es goyobod (goyobod ice), location at Kliningan street buah batu bandung yo. that place is very famous.
there are so many street foods from Bandung and other West Java.
Mostly those names are to make shorter's name.
*Batagor* (Baso Tahu Goreng)
*Cilok* (Aci di Colok)
*Cimol* (Aci di Gemol)
ect...
but for *Seblak* it means heart-beat *seseblak-an hate/hati*
Yeah, you aim for the texture when you choose cilok.. Nothing more 😆😆
indeed Cilok is just a ball of dough... the highlight is the chewy sensation.. and the assorted of the bumbu.. it could be just a sweet soy sauce or it peanut sauce or sambar or combination of those 3 condiments.
What makes your review so precious is your honesty, whenever you don't like the food or just so-so, you straightforwardly says you don't like it. So people know when you genuinely like any food you tried. 👍🏼

Should try bandung snakc, called surandil, surabi, jiwel, awug ....
You should try..somay..batagor..bakmie bangka...pork fried from bangka island.....serabi notosjuman....pisang goreng madu bu naniek...bandeng presto..pempek palembang..soto betawi...sop kambing dudung....sate maranggi....martabak telor....pecel lele....nasi goreng kambing ...masakan manado....omg so much more i cant tell u one by one 😅😅😅
I'm Cilok lover. Best Cilok is from Ciamis. Bandung Cilok typically Tapioka Ball with Spicy Peanut Sauce. But Ciamis Cilok is more savory and fatty. But same, Just Tapioka Ball. Sometimes filled with egg, sliced fat/ meat. If you wanna Cilok with broth/soup, you can try Cilok Goang from Tasik. Or Baso Aci from Garut.
Next time you have to try pempek and tekwan please😋😋

In bandung we have a ton of spicy food but super delicious also, more more and more spicier than u had before.. too bad u cant enjoy spicy food :,)
While in bandung i suggest you to try;
1. Ikan bakar sambal pesisir (but im pretty sure u cant eat this, hyper spicy! But ultra delicious)
2. Imah babaturan (the best fried rice in town! Try the goat one and they have many delicious food on menu)
3. Soto sedap boyolali
4. Mi aceh saparua
5. Belah doeren (all various durian)
6. Sop kaki 999, simpang 5 dago

Jengkol & Petai , It Is The Same As You Eat Dirt that Tastes Bitter & Does Not Taste Good .
If It Is A Drink , Do Not Drink Batrawali , It Is Very Bad Super Bitter . Which Can Be Eaten , And Tastes Good :

Do not Inhale The Smoke From The Magribi Bubu , Which Likes To be Mixed With Frankincense , Bako Mole Cigarettes That Are Only For Body Health , Very Bad .
Better , Drink Pure Cow's Milk Pangalengan , Which Is Added Pure Bees Honey And Other Traditional Foods . If You Want , Ask About Traditional Foods & Drinks That Are Safe For Consumption :

The Pioneer of Batagor is Batagor H Ihsan at Jalan Kopo Bandung.
I think they add tofu in batagor or siomay it's just an economic problem because if they use all the dough with fish then the profit will be small. after all, the tofu makes the shape look big. While cilok is pure sago without fish in it, and it is made for a cheaper version of the food and relies more on spicy seasoning

In Bandung, we still found many family talking with "Holland spreken". It would be good if you try to meet them & explore some stories about their past life in Bandung..

BaTaGor = Bakso, Tahu, Goreng
(Fried Tahu Bakso), Tahu Bakso is Tofu stuffed with chicken/fish dough like Bakso dough.
Siomay = Indonesian Dimsum from fish or chicken.
Cilok = Tapioca ball, it's very chewy. One of my fav snack.

Ive had cilok bumbu only once in my life and i agree with you. Its not good. I think it’s made of only flour dough, steamed. I believe it was invented during rough war times.

7:38 .. you might have mixed them up..
*Batagor* or _Bakso Tahu Goreng_ (fried meatball & tofu).. originally made from minced chicken/beef meat mixed with flour (just like how an ordinary meatball are made), stuffed into a white tofu and then wrapped with dumpling wrapper.. its then steamed and then fried before being served..
*Siomay* (the name was derived from Chinese or Mongolian) are made the same way as a meatball but with minced Spanish mackerel instead of meat.. originally it wasn't wrapped with dumpling wrapper and not fried just steamed..
But nowadays, a variant of both batagor and siomay can be found made of either meat or fish, both wrapped in dumpling wrapper, and obviously both served as fried as well.. but their main differences is the tofu in batagor and also the peanut sauces for it tend to be more sweet..
So, perhaps you didn't mixed them up after all..
Oh and at 10:32 .. *Cilok* or _Aci dicolok_ are just made of boiled ball of aci (starch) dough..

Batagor stands for Baso Tahu Goreng. Baso Tahu = Siomay.. Siomay Goreng = Baso Tahu Goreng.. Baso Tahu Goreng = Batagor.. Even I can't tell the difference.. 😅 And why did they Goreng the Batagor which is already Goreng?

Cilok is made of tapioca flour. It tastes better while it's still hot and don't eat it in one go, you'd better cut it into some parts first.

Do you know batagor stand for Baso Tahu Goreng (fried meatball Tofu), Cilok stand for Aci dicolok, dumpling from tapioca flavour....Why you don't try baso tahu sinchan, the best baso tahu in my town, and surabi cihapit, original taste toping oncom, surabi kinca burangrang, mie kocok dadeng, and many more. No enough a few days to enjoy your taste in bandung...trust me!!!

Susan, I don't like cilok either. Not because it's spicy. But because it is very difficult to get really tasty cilok. Even in a famous restaurant, it's not necessarily delicious. This is my opinion.

In the Netherlands, some Dutch I know like peanut sauce (pindasaus) there and I always say they have to try Indonesian peanut sauce (with batagor) if they haven't. That is another level.

Aci = adonan yang terbuat dari Tepung Terigu
Cilok memang harus terasa pedas, kalau tidak pedas akan terasa hambar / tanpa rasa hanya sekedar tekstur kenyal.....
Salah, Aci itu terbuat dari Tepung Tapioka bukan Terigu
Cilok = aci dicolok, or aci in a stick. You're right, aci is actually made from wheat dough with a little bit spice. Not my favorite food also.

Cilok stands for (aci in plug).
Aci is tapioca flour in Sundanese, so cilok is just tapioca flour that is given a little salt and water and then formed into rounds.

You can also try Gehu "Toge Tahu" (bean sprouts and tofu), or cireng "aci di goreng" (fried tapioca flour).
