Go Integza :-D didn't finish this vid because I already saw "Devil's Toothpaste Rocket Engine (3D Printed)" last year. Ps. still love TheBackyardScientist experiments.
I remember back when I used to watch this channel as a kid. Things weren't exactly "formal learning' but they weren't this funny before. I must say this is a prime example of a channel improving more, alongside its audience getting older.
Well said👏 and a comment above you just commented "remmember when you had a channel haha" like bruh i hate people wanting other people being stagnant most youtubers should change once inawhile so they wont be stale.
I'm a peroxide specialist, what you need is anaccelerant for the catalyst. You can try using some molybdate salt such as sodium molybdate and see if it makes a difference. Also you can try adding some low amounts of manganese dioxide suspended in solution. It's worth getting 50% peroxide since it's not as dangerous as what you created (which I think was grater than 60%). Peroxide reactivity somewhat increases exponentially as it gets concentrated. Also, make sure you are not using any metal firings, valvs, or parts at or near the peroxide tank. Your tank bursted because the peroxide you had concentreated was contaminated by dust and bugs, which then leads to it continuously releasing some oxygen, which then creates pressure build up in the tank, where the pressure then causes formation of heat and rise in temperature, which in turn makes the peroxide degradation faster and faster as this cycle continues = this reaction cycle was the cause for your explosion! I'd be happy to work together with you and recreate the devil's toothpaste, peroxide science and formulating with peroxide is my daily profession!
In terms of safety, maybe some sort of thermometer or pressure gauge in the peroxide tank would be a good idea? That way you can catch the accelerating decomposition early and get clear.
For what it's worth, the local lab shop sells up to 35% for about $30 for 1 liter. (US, ships no problem, but that does add a ~$40 hazmat shipping fee to the whole order.)
I've worked with 90% peroxide and yeah, it can get pretty spicy. I never got any worse than a temporary white spot on my skin, though. I carefully avoided using catalysts of any sort and just treated it like any other rocket oxidizer and lit it off with a good spark-torch igniter, so you're on your own for making mere chemical reactions vs flames.
Glue Gunner should not be added to Titanfall 3, but you can have this hazmat suit, in the form of a perk called Battle Hardened Also, the linear accelerator rifle is a particle beam weapon utilizing gravitational field generators to accelerate proton particles to near lightspeed in a similar way to a water cannons and glue gunners
Devil's Toothpaste is really the same as the famous Elephant Toothpaste experiment, just executed with higher concentration hydrogen peroxide. In this case, [Integza] is using 50% hydrogen peroxide combined with potassium permanganate as a catalyst.
"hey it's ya boy nilegreen again, today i'm going to make devil's toothpaste" -glass explodes- "ouch ouch there's glass in my eyes, this was a bad idea. Just kidding guys, i was wearing safety glasses." -shows pair of plastic glasses with a glass shard pierced through it-
I have enjoyed learning and watching this with my kids. though every video I'm like don't do this lol. you have made my whole family science lovers. that is not an easy task. we all hated school you make it so much fun
7:15 This reminds me of the fueling process for the ME-163 Nazi Germanys rocket interceptor. One of the fuels for the rocket was so dangerous that it could dissolve a human. The fuels were T-Stoff (80 percent hydrogen peroxide and 20 percent water) and C-Stoff (hydrazine hydrate, methyl alcohol, and water). If I recall correctly when fueling one truck would pull up fuel then drive off and the second truck would then pull up to fuel the rocket. It was so that they didn't mix the fuels prematurely as contact with each other would ignite the fuel and explode.
I think you mixed the tanks up, which may be why one of them exploded. in the first shot, you put the green liquid in one tank, and in the second shot you put the red liquid in the same tank you previously put the green liquid in. Best label those tanks.
I think why it ruptured (from my testing and messing around with concentrating peroxide) is the dust and also metal in the brass, metal ions cause peroxide to decompose and that probably lead to the tank rupturing from the oxygen being generated
Mark Rober did a version with 50% H2O2 and potassium iodide that he called "Devil's Toothpaste". If you don't have potassium permanganate, you can also use potassium iodide or manganese dioxide. Manganese dioxide can be acquired by taking apart certain batteries,
My favorite thing about your videos is that you list off everything that can and probably will go wrong, but you always follow it up with "let's try it".
im only 3 1/2 minutes in and this is already my favorite video of 2022 from all the science homies. i loved the cheeky but also quality detective work to expose mark rober and all of his dastardly lies 🤣 you're both awesome
ok the fact that the backyard scientist has been making videos my whole life just warms my heart they’ve always been there and i’m so glad that you’re still here doing insane experiments and having fun
I love how you’re taking the time to really source your creative lens for these videos. I can definitely see the safety thirds podcast influence on this and I think it makes your videos just so much more enjoyable
Now I really want to see you get tips from Explosions&Fire on making high % peroxide from O2 and cooling the peroxide. 60-80% peroxide (probably store in Teflon bottle with outside painted black) would be wild.
Ive been trying to get good peroxide reactions, for a monoprop rcs thruster, and what ive discovered is that most commercially available peroxides have stabilizing agents present that make it really hard for the peroxide to decompose, leading to a slower reaction rate. there is 2 work arounds i have found, 1. buy the proper stuff with no stabilizing agents, 2. (not as good but still effective) use potassium permanganate, this tends to react with the stabilizer, causing a faster reaction rate while also being one of the most effective catalysts out there.
Here I am, just kicking back having some beers waiting to play some Resident Evil 8 after playing thru the whole series over the last month and this guy goes down the "mars rover" rabbit trail making me spit out my beer from laughter. This is great. 10/10 suggest this channel to anyone that enjoys science and humor.
Knowing how hot it can get, 9:38 You could use this as a weapon, first you would soak your enemies, and confuse them, then it would expand and start burning them and they cant stop it

The yellow color of Mark's 2nd solutions could come from silver nanoparticles, which will significantly increase the speed of the reaction. You can also increase the pH of the hydrogen peroxide solution to make the reaction faster. Or, you can use warm solutions (NEVER heat 60% peroxide past warm to touch).
Mark Rober: The Elephants Toothpaste reaction is exothermic and generates a ton of heat, and can burn somebody! The Backyard Scientist: *makes a squirt gun out of it*
Love how the first few minutes of the video are decoding a formula, hidden from you for safety reasons, for what we know to be a dangerous chemical, that could possibly be classified as a weapon.
I should've guessed from the turning toys into death traps videos... but you're sounding a bit super-villainy in this; like Rober is your arch nemesis you're trying to take down. Keep up the good work!
"Concentrated hydrogen peroxide is like, rocket fuel!" And then he's surprised when his concentrated mix makes a lot of thrust and heat... like a rocket. (But yes this sounds similar to that steam rocket Integza made, based off the Me 163 Komet engine)
You should consider a leather smock and face shield or something that can protect against shrapnel when dealing with endothermic and high pressure reagents
Kevin, love your videos. They show how things work at the basic, build it your self level making it easy to understand the working dynamics of them. Would you please create a video/project demonstrating how super heated salt can create super heated steam to power a turbine that creates electricity. Then see how many of your house or your toys you can power with it? It'd be really cool to see and real world challenge. Not to mention giving young kids ideas on how to power their future.
when I saw his video, I also wondered how he was able to get the reaction he displayed. Being that the peroxide is the key component for the expansion, I contacted a chemical Eng and he told me that to get that volume that quickly with the chemicals listed, the peroxide % would need to be well above 50% and a minimum of 40% for the example shown in the video. Im willing to bet that if you can get ahold of 60% peroxide you will see reaction time exceed what you need for the gun.
I got the impression you were closing in on the formula for rocket fuel. Also, when you utter the words, "I'm so afraid this will explode." Heed the words, man!! 😄
10 seconds into the video and I'm already scared for your safety. After finishing the video I really hope you faked a lot of this. I love your content but please stay safe.
What I love is that for everyones safety and the countries....a government organisation has contacted and talked to Marc Rober and Backyard Scientist....most likely.
