I think his groundstrokes are amazing but his movement and serve will keep him inside the top 20 for the next couple of years. It's like a slightly less impressive version of Sinner at 18. If he puts some muscle on there's no telling though.
@@Jsatt8 "a slightly less impressive version of Sinner" - that's not bad at all. haha I am mostly impressed by the Fonseca's ability to inject pace. I also watched Sinner closely when he was coming up but Sinner did not have the ability to hit that monster forehand Fonseca is showing right now.
Very impressed with this kid. Enormous firepower from both wings but also has touch and feel, can slice, good drop shots, isn't afraid of the net and volleys are sharp as well. Hope he stays healthy and keeps improving.
I saw that match LOL.... the crowd was cheering for every single point... he made me win money as well... I was so nervous when garin was coming back after a break down and then suddenly joao got him to sealed the set💪
By God I am watching this Fonseca vs Navone match and I have to say 2nd set was completely fixed. Hate to say this but fixing is very much prevalent. How the hell did Navone win that set. Even after getting broken and playing so badly. Crazy
I'm very impressed by the way Fonseca hits the ball, especially on his forehand, it looks so easy... It's both powerful and so fast...if he has the right people around him, this young man can have a very beautiful career. Time will tell. Love Brazil. ❤ from France.
fonseca! what a sound the stadium creates as they watch your play, brother. that is the true reward of the hard work. the crowd loves the size of your heart! fearless!
Everyone was assuming Alcaraz would run away with the competition after Novak retires, but he’s going to have a hell of a time reaching dbl digit slams with the emergence of Sinner. Now there’s a bunch of 18-19 year olds who look destined for greatness. Mensik, Fonseca, and Prizmic all look like future monsters. Then there’s the fact that guys like Zverev and Medvedev have seemed to figure out how to play him better, and someone like Rune who I still believe has some of the most untapped potential.
Agreed men’s tennis post Djokovic, Nadal and Federer has finally woken up. There’s a whole host of outstanding players around at the moment. The level is insane. Not that Djokovic is quite finished yet.
Fonseca has huge potential, his ground strokes are impressive both from the backhand and forehand. But what surprises me the most is his shot selection, for a 17 year he plays incredibly smart.
Fonseca's FH is just unreal. But his regular BH has pressure pace as well. I can't see him not becoming a top 10 player by 22 and winning a slam. He might even win this tourney
If Fonseca wins tomorrow, he will be top 250, so he will get an opportunity to play another ATP main tournament so he can take his decision and reject college
E eu me lembro quando o Sinner ganhou o nextgen tinha gente comparando ele com o Berdych e um italiano respondeu embaixo que eles ficariam decepcionados se ele ficasse "só " no Berdych. Bom, o tempo provou que não estava errado.
What an absolute star Fonseca is. Such maturity in tennis at this age. He will go a long long way but what he doesn’t need at this point is pressure from this world for him to win a Grand Slam etc. he needs to be focused and take it one step at a time. But huge potential and he will surely be a top player in the years to come.
At 17, Fonseca has easy power from both wings similar to Sinner, arguably an even cleaner backhand stroke, serves way better than Alcaraz at the same age, can dropshot with the best of them, and perfected the Federer sneak-attack into a real effective return strategy and a serious psycho-weapon (maybe Federer did more than supply him with the ON equipment?). Court coverage is lacking somewhat, but what a player at 17!
Fonseca has the easiest power Ive seen since Fognini. Off both sides. Holy shit this kid is a dangerous floater the rest of the year. He's gonna piss in somoene's FO cheerios. He keeps playing like this or wins this tourney and the French Federation they'll give him a WC for sure. What a stud.
I watched Fonseca in awe, then I saw Norrie’s name and just turned it off immediately lol. It’s such a shame Alcaraz got injured, imagine him playing Fonseca in the final. That would be iconic. I hope this kid will continue to impress and rise up the rankings. He is another proof that post-Big3 era is going to be super exciting. And the mix of young talents or rising stars from various countries is great for bringing new younger audiences to tennis. Alcaraz for Spain and Latin America, Fonseca for Brasil, Sinner for Italy but also for German speaking countries, Fils for France, Rune for Scandinavian countries, Mensik for Czech republic, Shelton and Michelsen for the US, Shang for China, Medjedovic for Serbia, Prizmic for Croatia… there are future national stars popping up everywhere, I think it’s really cool for tennis in general.
The funny thing is, I would back Norrie to beat Fonseca if they meet. But yes men’s tennis has finally come life post big three. There are so many brilliant players out there at the moment.
Fonseca for sure reminds me of young carlitos. Crazy powerful shots, not as extreme but certainly good agility/quickness and shot selection is still a bit off. Definitely a player that I will follow
I'm glad to see some strong young players emerging recently. However, it is important to be active throughout the year. I want the young players to do their best.
A lot of people were complaining last week about Buenos Aires' crowd, but as an argentinian I feel crowds like that and Rio's is how it should be. Completely backing the local and making the opponent feel the pressure. I hope Navone wins and silences the stadium, but I feel that what's likely is a final between Cerundolo/Baez v Seyboth/Fonseca
Im spechless after watching Fonseca play these first two rounds. His maturity and composure is just unreal for seventeen years old. He has a huge forehand, and what I also like he is a clay court player/clay court specialist that's willing to come in "very rare" and can actually volley. He can also slice and has very good variety on both sides. What can improve is his movement, but what scares me and the question is like all big forehands when he's on he's on but when he's off what is his plan B? Serveooks good as well with room to improve overall in impressed thr kid has a bright future. God bless Fonseca vai malandro! 🙏
You can see that Fonseca has already developed a forehand that Is unreadable placing the opponent in a neutral position each time he strikes it. A Federer/Sinner/Kyrgios forehand. Should work even better on grass and hard court. 👏
That's why he reminds me of Sinner so much. The coolness, the diversity of shot selections, the powerful groundstrokes, the drama-free attitude, etc., it's uncanny.
Bravo Jules mais chaud sur la fin du deuxième set ça peut se jouer à paS grand chose pour que ce match change d'optique...... Mais bon bien joué au suivant 💪💪💪😉

You watch Fonseca Groundstrokes and then came Norrie Barrios match and they seem to be playing in slow motion
I watched Alcaraz since he was 16. I think Fonseca's groundstroke will be stronger than Alcaraz. This Fonseca kid has a huge potential.
