When I bought the "Madonna" album on vinyl in early 1984 this was the version of Burning Up on it. I still have that album. I didn't hear the "other" more guitar heavy video version until I bought the VHS tape sometime in 1985 that has the videos for Burning Up, Lucky Star, Borderline and Like A Virgin on it. Of course the video for Burning Up is the other version. So this here is the first version I knew of Burning Up. Can't remember when I ended up getting the other version now. I think it was an import 12" single. Not sure if I still have that or not. I like both versions, it's a great song and brings back lots of memories. :)
+Spader Holic The only format the (Alternate Album Version) of Burning Up was on The Australian 7" Vinyl single and the re-issue of M's first album, Retitled (The First Album) Vinyl xoxo
+Ricky Greaves As I said my original copy of her debut album 'Madonna' that I bought in 1984 has this version on it. The only time I've heard the guitar heavy version is on the video of the song and on the re-issue of the album when it was re-titled The First Album - the version on that reissue had the same version of the video. I still have the original Madonna album that I bought in 1984, with it's original black & white cover, and I listened to it again just recently so I know what version is on it. Definitely not the version from the video of the song. I'm not sure if this version here is slightly shorter or longer (or the same length) than the one on my album but it's the same mix as this version, not the video version with the heavy guitars.
I also had this LP when I was younger and this was the version of "Burning Up". Up until then, I had heard only the video version (the cassette tape had the video version, which has a hard edit during the guitar part. I was like "WTF???" I am assuming the differences between the two versions had to do with Jellybean's remixing on her debut album.
This is by far the original and official version of Madonna's "Burning Up" which was commercially released worldwide from her debut self-titled album "MADONNA" in 1983 under Sire records.
OMG I so remember this version on the Madonna album!! I was thinking I was dreaming when someone stole it so I had to buy the album again and It sounded different. Thank goodness I get to hear it again.
I'm sure this is the version that was on the vinyl I bought waaay back when it first came out - glad to have finally found it again. Best version I think :)
By far, this is the version I love better. Heard this in the Philippines, I loved it. When I came to the States, I heard a different version. Love this version better.
I don't think many Americans are familiar with this as it was the UK/European album version (LP and Cassette) for the re-issued Madonna album 'The First Album' with different artwork) in 1984 and later as the b-side to 'Angel'. I always presumed this was the Jellybean remix (4.48) rather than Reggie Lucas's original production? The video uses the US album version (3.42) and there is also a similar sounding 12" Version (5.56). Later re-issue/remaster/MP3 versions of 'Madonna' have reverted back to the video version (3.42) of Burning Up and the black and white cover, making the colourful 'The first album' a slight rarity/oddity in the Madonna collecting world
This version is just ok. The definitive version is the one in the video, which MTV played non-stop and everyone knows. It’s weird hearing any other version. I sure wish Warner Bros. would finally press this version to CD so we can all have it digitally.
When I got her eponymous album when it literally just came out--which I no longer have on vinyl-- THIS was the version, but then they changed it. Can't find it on Apple Music in the States.
Funny, the 12" remix is more dance, this alternate vinyl version is more rock and the video version is more pop. Because the songs are so long on the first album, I've always felt that the 12" remix of Burning Up should have been the album version instead. The longer version of Everybody (5:56) should've been on there too.
Somehow I think that this was the original album version because very early pressings of the "Madonna" album has this version instead, and so does "The First Album." Maybe the regular version was intended to be the single version in the US?
Interesting...the 12" remix of Burning was released first. When her first album was released, this alternate version was used instead. Later pressing would have the shorter version used for the video.
I've heard that Madonna had dispute issues with her former producer Reggie Lucas whilst recording this original "Burning Up" single mix in terms of musical arrangement and technical production. Madonna wanted a different approach and she re-recorded this track in 1985, after Reggie left in late 1983, as Madonna released "The First Album" that same year where a 3-minute and 43-seconds version was included in that album, where on a CD inlay indicates "previously recorded album as 'Madonna'".
I knew the existence of this version back in the 80's but i never heard it before. If anyone have it, can send me this through e-mail i'll really apreciate it!
I'm sorry to say you're wrong! The First Album on CD doesn't include this version at all. The running time is wrong on back sleeve by the way. But, if you play the CD you'll see the timing is the actual 3:41 video version instead. Do it!
Se escùcha padrisimo, muy clàsico de la musica pop-rock ochentera!...Recuerdo los casettes que uno ponia cuando uno hiba echo la chingada en la carretera..jejejeje!!!
Why the hell hasn't this version been re-released? This is one I grew up with (had it on the UK 'Angel' 12") and it's the best version by miles!
When I bought the "Madonna" album on vinyl in early 1984 this was the version of Burning Up on it. I still have that album. +Spader Holic I concur, it definitely was released. This was definitely the version on my copy of the album (bought in the UK)

Ricky Greaves it also appears on the B side of Angel in the UK released single
This is by far the original and official version of Madonna's "Burning Up" which was commercially released worldwide from her debut self-titled album "MADONNA" in 1983 under Sire records.
This is so NYC early 80's, love it. Makes me think of the LES in those days, must have been quite a trip.
The whole album has that special 80s sound and vibe, it makes me feel nostalgic for a decade I didn’t even live haha
OMG I so remember this version on the Madonna album!! I was thinking I was dreaming when someone stole it so I had to buy the album again and It sounded different. Thank goodness I get to hear it again.

No disco saiu esta versão maravilhosa!
Love this version, an awesome song in all it's versions!
I love this version. I have it on the first pressing of the lp "the first album"
Me too.me too
this is the best version
My favourite version by far!
This is the one I remember. By far the best!!!
I'm reading that this is the version included on the first pressing of her self-titled debut. It was later swapped for the 3:41 version.
The version she performed at the Hacienda in '84 👌
Awesome. There are so many different early mixes of this and they're all great. ❤️
This is the version on my vinyl I bought in 1986 and is my favourite. I like the dance vibe of this version more.
I have “The first album” LP and this is the version of Burning Up
By far, this is the version I love better. Heard this in the Philippines, I loved it. When I came to the States, I heard a different version. Love this version better.
nice to hear this version...
This version is much better than the other one on the re-released of the first album :p
I bought the cassette version of the album and IT HAS ALSO AN 4:48 VERSION ON IT !!! It's the German 1983 cassette with barcode 7599-23867-4.
This is a better version !! Endless listens on vinyl way back then when the self titled album came out.
this version was on the initial pressings of the first album....more synth, but then they changed it to more guitar...both are good.
Goddess of Pop
Oh my gosh, I so miss this Madge 😕

This is the alternate vinyl version, from Madonna's first album.
Takes me back to my teen years in the '80s... :)
3:37 BEST PART.......WAT AN ANGEL.!
Nice version
This is the one I love from the start more than the regular version that I think is the same than the soundtrack from the video-clip...
This version is just ok. The definitive version is the one in the video, which MTV played non-stop and everyone knows. It’s weird hearing any other version. I sure wish Warner Bros. would finally press this version to CD so we can all have it digitally.

This version was the B-side to the Angel single in Ireland and the UK ⚡⚡⚡ #letGo

First Europe pressings of the debut album, released as The First Album in 1985, have this version.

All the guitar work.....this would have been a hit in the US with this version.
I wish they did an longer version of this song
I love this version, my personal favourite, great heavy beat and horny
Horny?
I have owned the first album on vinyl cassette and CD and have never heard this version.
this is the version on the original first album i bought back in the day.... prefer this one
I've heard that Madonna had dispute issues with her former producer Reggie Lucas whilst recording this original "Burning Up" single mix in terms of musical arrangement and technical production. She couldn’t have re recorded it. They just used the alternate rock mix from the 1983 video
This to me sounds like a raw demo. I prefer the full, driving beat and bass of the 12" mix, along with the blended background vocals.
That's the disco version in 1983
Had the reissued ‘Madonna The First Album ‘ on cassette for Christmas 1985, I’m sure this was the version. Prefer to the other version
Burning Up Diamonds Diamonds
I knew the existence of this version back in the 80's but i never heard it before. If anyone have it, can send me this through e-mail i'll really apreciate it!
Porque en el CD "The First Album" no viene ésta versión y en el Vinyl si?... Alguien sabe?
"The first album" o "Madonna"? En TFA aparece esta version (por lo menos en el cd) y en Madonna aparece la de 3:48.
I'm sorry to say you're wrong! The First Album on CD doesn't include this version at all. The running time is wrong on back sleeve by the way. But, if you play the CD you'll see the timing is the actual 3:41 video version instead. Do it!
This isn't unreleased? This is the exact version that was on my cassette of The First Album. It's the only version that I'm familiar with.
bucksboyblue so you have the reissue version of 1983, the first version is this: www.discogs.com/Madonna-Madonna/release/2897713
+bucksboyblue I recently bought the cassette too and heard this different version than the album version I was used to !
Brazilian vinyl version.
I have!!!!!!
@madzskie EXACTLY and I still have the vinyl and Im only 20
Now you must be almost 30
The 12inch version is good too...more electronic.
Isn't this from the 12"?
This should have been the version they released. I love the original but I think this version is better.
This is the original... The one that came after (3:45) was a bad edit.
Active are
When Madonna was hot
What do you mean 'was?'
This version and Britney’s cover > the other remakes of this song (I wish someone would make a Madonna Britney mashup with this song)
better. l dont like the over produced version.
You mean the one ☝🏽 with all the synths?
