1200hp 4-Rotor 26B TT Mazda Miata MX-5 - Mad Mike' RADBUL Ripping at Goodwood FoS!

- One of the craziest car I had the pleasure to see this year is for sure Mad Mike Whiddett' RADBUL. The car is a Mazda Miata MX-5 ND, ok just a few parts are still from the little car.
Starting from the engine we found now a PPRE/Mazda 26B 4-Rotor engine together with two custom-spec Garrett GTX40 turbochargers that allow the car to reach around 1000hp with a low boost setting, then raised up to 1200hp. Then of course fully adjustable suspensions, Holinger Engineering 6-speed sequential transmission and lots of other things.
Listen to that engine screaming, backfiring and whistling up to Goodwood hillclimb course!

@Baguette Productions yeah that's not actually why, they didn't want teams shirking around displacement regulations and also wanted to reduce r&d costs if I remember correctly. Rotaries weren't actually that fantastic in motorsport
@Baguette Productions well no. they weremt competitive enough even for their class. they were banned because they couldnt figure out what their displacement was. mazda never was a traditional sports company, but they were the only ones developing the wankel engines. im guessing, they couldnt also figure out a competitive package along with the engine. if nissan or toyota developed these engines, no doubt in my mind they would have performed well.
@Baguette Productions it was one time within 1991. there were a few more races as well. my opinion is that mazda traditionally never was competitive in sports, so it certainly was unexpected for them to win. but it lasted for a very short time. they won because of reliability

@@tommihommi1 The idiots are people who think rotaries have a future as main engines. They are incredibly fuel inefficient and as dirty as no other engine. Prototype racing exists to test out future technologies and the boundaries of physics not how to consume the most fuel.

The Goodwood festival takes place once a year or is it all the time, like one event per week for exemple? if it's once a year how many days does it last? I would really like to go to the 2018 one, so many cool cars
If I'm not mistaken there are 3 main events around Goodwood: Members Meeting in March, Festival of Speed in June/July period and the Goodwood Revival in September. While the MM and the Revival are held at Goodwood circuit the FoS is inside Goodwood estate. It's a 4 days event, from from Thursday to Sunday. And yes, that's an insane event ;)

I hope Mazda can make the rotary fuel efficient so they can bring it back
It'll return as a range extender shortly (so they're keeping the tech alive) and people are sure to start modding and repurposing it immidiately.... they're bound to look at repurposing all the skyactive-x developments to the rotary as they'll solve the fuel efficiency (compression ignition) and power/rotor (compression) problems. Hopefully they see a business case for doing the RX Vision realization. (what mazda engineers really really really want to do)... maybe they'll start off with a 165hp rx-5 (reduced weight) to reduce financial risk. Fingers crossed.
