Lifelong Cowboys fan here, but I was in absolute LOVE with Walter. His nickname, Sweetness, was well earned and apropos. Probably the prettiest running back ever. We lost him far too soon.
Kentucky grad here, sorry I can't agree with his college career. LOL They wiped us out every year. But hey, 3 out of 5 now, & 2 in a row, we're on our way back. I just KNOW that burns you up LOL.
I can not say how much I appreciate that you understand the blocking. Emmit Smith is a shining example of a player in the NFL, but so many quickly look over how much of an example the whole team was at that point. It's like building blocks. Emmit had such a strong O line, Quaterback, back up in Deon Sanders, Dexter Coaxley. It was the all star team at the time, not just one, but the whole.
Its crazy how she appreciates how talented this guy is. She dosnt sound dumb she actually sounds like she knows what shes saying. Also shes beautiful! I subscribed!
at 10:15.. that amazing game emmitt had against the giants was with a dislocated shoulder, he injured in the 1st qtr then had about 30 carries for 230 yards… amazing
If you're interested in a deep dive, check out Tony Dorsett & Herschel Walker, both fellow Dallas Cowboys alums. Tony spent 11 seasons there & finished as the 2nd all-time leading NFL rusher behind only Walter Payton at the time. Emmit passed them all, but if Tony had offensive linemen like Emmit did.. another story... maybe. LOL Herschel was just on another level all together. He's 6'3 240lbs with world class speed. It's been told that even today, at 58 years of age, he can still clock a 4.4 second 40 yard dash. Insane. What a freak of nature.
One of the hard things about comparing Barry and Smith is they played in different offensive systems. Detroit was mainly a run and shoot where the threat was the receivers which made defenses line up differently. The Cowboys lined up in an i formation and basically said we are going right down your throats with a run. This would draw the defense up close so when that legendary O line opened holes for Emmitt who had such great vision and ability to squeeze through those holes it just left a secondary to try and wrap him up. Try to do that and watch out for both an all star receiver and a very good tight end. Why half of the highlights you see him just blasting through with everyone chasing him. It was the perfect storm of legend of a running back, O line, laser accurate QB, powerful all star receiver. It why Dallas was all around all star team back then. With all of that even if you manage to corner Emmitt he could just elude you and make any defenses day a long bad one.
What made the #DallasCowboys running game so great, was the combination of a great (RB) running back to match a great (OL) offensive line. Side note* a great OL can make a mediocre RB look good, but when you combine a Great OL with a great RB like Smith, you can create a Dynasty! This formula was the main ingredient for Dallas 3 Super Bowl rings in 4 years, hence #AmericasTeam.🇺🇸
They only compared him to Barry bcuz of his jump cuts are what they called no one is physically able to stop on a dime and go 0-60 like they were. They make it look easy and oh yeah all the fast people look like they walking
The Dallas Cowboys of that era were nearly unbeatable! Everybody was great from the quarterback, to receiver, to offensive line, to defense. The San Francisco 49ers were the only team as talented at the time! But Emmit was a monster, and deserves his place in the Hall of Fame!🤘🤘
Since the rugby world cup just started you deefinetly could watch some rugby once again, the Fiji 7's National Team is a BEAUTY to watch for us rugby fans
Well there's a whole lot of evidence that Emmitt Smith made the offensive line more than the offensive line made Emmitt. When Emmitt held out they couldn't run a lick, when Emmitt went to the Cardinals they couldn't run a lick. Emmitt was amazing in college, amazing for Dallas, and shop worn 30-something year old Emmitt playing behind a mediocre Cardinals O-line did better than his replacement in Dallas playing behind that O so great line that could make anyone look good, lol.
Sorry Emitt good? no he was great! If Jimmy Johnson would have stayed he would have more yards and touch downs and rings but let's thank Jerry Jones for that!
To address your point about him having 100 receiving yards as runningback that is very huge.. There's an incredible runningback named Marshall Faulk who had 1048 receiving yards in one season
I remember when the Cowboys entered the field of opponent teams they didn’t get boo’d as much as a wave of hush and quietness cause they knew their home team was about to get MURDERED. The 90’s Cowboys were unstoppable JUGGERNAUTS. But more like Thanos cause they were out here collecting rings.
Try reacting to Emanuel Augustus. He was a boxer with the most entertaining fighting style ever. At times he looked invincible. Even Floyd Mayweather stated for a long time that he was his toughest opponent.
Dallas offensive line was huge compared to Emmitt who was short so hiding behind them by the time he got to the second third level by the secondary it was to late plus the holes they made you could drive a truck through them now if Barry Sanders had an offensive line like that back then he would’ve broke the all time leading rushing record before Emmitt probably get some rings too
Keep in mind that Emmit Smith had an organization that invested heavily in him. Smith almost always had one of the best Offensive Lines in the league. The argument is that Barry Sanders did it without the blocking or the passing game to keep Defenses honest. We'll never know who was better. From the hard work and success is spite of his Organization Sanders is superior. But it would have been great to see what Sanders could do with the support Smith got. Then we could have an accurate comparison of the two greatest talents at RB.
The '90's Cowboys were stacked with talent. Emmitt was amazing and never took a play off. If he wasn't in the play and he saw a blitz coming he would always send the closet blitzer in another direction. But I have to agree with you, Emmitt had an all pro offensive line, and a quarterback Troy Aikman to go along with the other triplet Michael Irvin, made the defensive not know who to key on so they had to respect all of them.
Look into the great wall of dallas and then look at Larry Allen react to these and you will have a better undertaking of how Emmitt Smith had those big holes I loved those years
Emmitt Smith was a great back, but Emmitt Smith had a great offensive line to allow him to make a lot of those runs where he looks to be shot out of a cannon. Barry Sanders didn't have a great offensive line. Hell, he didn't have a good offensive line. Barry did it on his own basically. This is why Emmitt is said to be kind of like Barry and not the other way around. Both were great backs though. Great reaction. Thanks for that. 😏
Sorry, that's BS. Barry had 3 pro bowlers on his line. The difference is he played in a Run and Shoot system with 3-4 WRs at all times. In that system you run Draw plays most of the time, where you allow the defenders upfield on pass rush lanes. That same system meant Barry was facing nickel and time defenses where Emmitt was facing 7-9 man fronts as the cowboys were an I formation run first team.
