I swear the first time i heard this song i thought it must have been some Screaming Jay Hawkins type dude from New Orleans. I was more than surprised to see that he's so young (and white 😮). Very talented musicians and probably cool people!
Damn he just keeps going. How does he not run out of breathe singing at 110% the entire song. Even at the end, those grunts and expressions of raw emotion are just so powerful! Incredible performance!
Same. I was like, "man how great would it have been to see this guy live back in the day." Then I saw his release dates. I'd love to see him in the states
I studied evil, I can't deny, Was a hoodoo charm called a Love Me or Die, Some fingernail, a piece of her dress, Apocathery, Devil's behes' I will relate, the piteous consequence my mistake, Fallin slave to passin desire, Makin' the dreaded Love me or Die. Against a Jungle primeval green, She had the looks of a beauty queen No bangles or chain, wearin' broken shoe Seventy-five cent bottle perfume. I said, "Good mornin", I tipped my hat, All the while I was cunning like a rat, Smilin gaily, looked her in the eye, I felt in pocket, the Love me or Die My past history, one to behold, I studied magic from days of old, Membership, secret societies, Power and wealth in my family But Matilda, Darling, Why you don't take my wedding ring, Like a demon under the floor, I buried the hoodoo down the back door. Lawd, word broke through the town, That a fever strike Matilda down, Nine thirty, the doctor arrive, Priest come runnin, quarter to five. Standin in the weeds early next day, I saw the meat wagon rollin away, I seen Matilda layin in the back, Her old mother wearin a suit of black Sound the trumpet, and bang the drum, I wait for me judgement to come, I know her spirit is down beneath, I hear the weepin and gnashing of the teeth. Flames of Hell licks at my feet, In the shadow of the Jungle I feel the heat, Matilda's waiting in Hell for me too, All cause she died from a bad hoodoo.
To see CW live and up close is kind of supernatural. Something seems off kilter, incongruous, that someone can sound so believably and authentically from an era some 100 years ago. If you were lucky enough to catch Tom Waits on Iggy's radio show last year, he spun a CW track and referred to this man as "something special". Coming from Tom, that is the highest complement.
‘Incongruous’ is the perfect description of what’s going on here. When I first heard this song, I thought it was an old song from the 40’s, by an old Cuban or Jamaican man. When I saw he was white and young, I figured he was probably just Caribbean, but then to find out he’s Australian 🤯 I can’t…😂 Anyway I love this song. Love the recorded version more, because of the instrumentals, still it’s a piece of art.
I love the guy and I adore the song, and I always wanted to play it on the guitar. But when I do it, it always sounds shitty. So I came to the video to find out how he would play it acoustically. And yeahhhhh it sounds shitty when he does it too..... apparently you can't do it well without a tuba.

felt exactly the same on first listen, what an amazing timeless talent.
When I found that this man was born in 1974 I was shook beyond belief

This man is top dog!
This is crazy that it doesn’t have more likes/views. He sings this song with so much desperation.
This man is one of my favorites forever!
His lyrics are so powerful like Bob Dylan way of telling an interesting tale .
SOOOO GREAT!!
The man is fkn brilliant
I swear i came across this song randomly and i thought it was a 20's-30's Django Rienhardt or something

It's not just how he sings, speaks and dresses. It's also how he moves. He is the whole package.

Genuinely thought this was a black guy from the 1920’s
I love this song but somebody please tell him the word is APOTHECARY not APOCATHERY
Lol I thought the same thing😂
I think in his album he says it correctly but I’m not sure.
168 views and 10 thumb ups - unacceptable!
His vibes mention “explorer blues”
DeArmond pick-up. Nice dude
You have to smoke a little bit more-more!

This is a rip off of Mother Fist by Marc Almond.
