A quick note about 13:30, when scaling the FitSkeleton top node, it's best practice to freeze the scale afterwards. Otherwise you can run into nasty transform group nodes if you need to add new joints into the hierarchy. It doesn't affect much otherwise, but I have had some issues from it before.
Hey Levi, I've never had to do that, and the and I've never seen the Advanced skeleton author recommend or mention this. After you run a build, it will freeze transforms on all the controls and offsets it creates for you. ----------- I hope to see you in the Patreon community 😊 patreon.com/animatorartistlife where you can get access to my project files, client project videos, and access to my new character animation rigs I'm building for all supporters!. I am very curious about the referencing in the model workflow. I have heard it is bad practice to have a reference to a file that has another reference. Does this mean that the model would have a final state, and imported, before the rig is referenced into an animation file? Or do you just chain the references without worries? Great series, thank you for these!
Hey, thanks for the question. Yes you are right, when your rig is ready, you "publish" it. meaning you import all references into one file.. but make sure you save it as a different file!! .... referencing is essential though. Because if you need to make a model geometry change its much easier having the model referenced.. you amend just your model file, then update your reference. But when animating, you MUST reference in your rig.. NEVER import. Imagine you have animated 30 shots, with one rig.. then you need to make a rig change (which is very common) if you haven't referenced in your rig, you are in big trouble and have to manually update each shot. When the rig is reference you just change one rig file, and all shots automatically update 😊
That's very kind thank you, honestly it helps me to keep going knowing people are finding them helpful. I started a Discord community recently, have you joined yet? VISIT: discord.gg/g6REvhbWGP 🙂
Hey sorry unfortunately not, as this was built for a client project. But if you haven't modelled your own there are plenty of various bird models on popular 3D stock marketplaces like Turbosquid, 3DTrader etc, thanks

can't wait enough for part 2 . love your tutorials they are easy to understand & simple techniques to make the rig.

Do you have the bird model available for this tutorial?
