- A digitalized card version of Dune Imperium the board game has been released as of March 2024, and it is definitely a lot of fun. The best news however, it doesn't need a youbeaut latest and greatest Gaming PC with RTX 4090s to play it. In this video we try get away with parts that we scavenged together for free over the last year!

Old Net/Sys Admin here.... I generally stay at least 2 generations behind in PC tech. (1) Most of the hardware issues/bugs have been fixed. (2) Prices on new (old tech) are very reasonable. (3) Pricing on compatible software is usually dirt-cheap. I'm a very patient person. I'll wait for a long time for a good deal! I never pay more than $200 US for a CPU. I never pay more than $500 US for a system upgrade. And since I started watching your channel, I have embraced the power of the "Yard Sale"!!!
How many PCs you have?
@@helloukw In my home, I have 5 PCs I maintain. I'm also the "Computer Man" in my family. I maintain 7 PCs in this domain.
I'm the same. I always stay a couple of generations behind because the price cuts on previous gen stuff is massive as retailers clear old stock. The differences in next gen stuff, vs a couple of generations ago, is now fairly negligible as well.
I haven't paid more than $20 for computers in over 10 years. If you live in a major metropolitan area in the U.S., you can get tech stuff for free all the time.
@@JamesAngeloIn these areas how do you suggest getting the free tech stuff?

3770 punches above its weight for it's age. I still build with it
Built something similar to this after a friend was cleaning out their garage and wanted to get rid of their PC. I saw value in it, and they thought of me first as they knew I was into this stuff, so I took it, then put in a GTX 1050Ti and an i5-3470 and a cheap SSD and sold it to someone that wanted to get their son into PC's but didn't want to spend a mint.
Pating it forward, friend. As we all should do.
This is what I sell in my local area great for esports Roblox and classics.
One of the most popular configuration here in Brazil. LGA 1155, any CPU with 4 Cores (xeon 1230 v2 from Aliexpress are pretty popular), 8GB ram, and rx 580 2048p 8GB (who have the same performance as RX 570).
X79 with 2650 v2 or X99 with 2680 v4 configs are common too.
It gives medium to low settings on the latest games. That's OK for the majority. It's better than buying an old ps4 with expensive games
the 2667 v4 is better

I build all my PC from old parts I've even got P4s for people who want XP computers + I look for 64 bit boards with parallel printer ports because I get people that have old CNC machines that use Linux CNC that needs a 64 bit system with a parallel port. I've got a working i7 980x 6 core with 24 GB ram to find something to do with it just because it's old doesn't mean it's junck
Still have my 8800GT. That card was an absolute beast.

My first gaming PC Built. what we call a Frankenstein PC; It was made out of a of a very good old office PC. Which I pay next to nothing for.
I think it was a Dell, and I do remember the CPU was an Intel 386 or 486 not sure. (Why half remember this is a friend at time saying, "You Luck Basket," not the word he used and CPU was good CPU for the time). I then spent what felt like a small fortune on a GPU (nothing changed) and a sound card, which I plug in. I game on PC for a number of years. (remember playing UFO Enemy Unknown and think Fallout 1 and 2 well it 1/2 life time ago for me) Even today, as a smaller group of friends, we still play pass the part when someone upgrades, and from time to time, we have a clean-out of old PC parts to see if we can make a Frankenstein PC for someone who needs one.
I absolutely loved playing Megaman 3 when i was a kid in the 90's and Sparkman was my go to character for most missions. Hearing that synth music again made me feel like it was the 90's all over again. Thank you for the music Brian
No scrap parts are better than the Taipei scrapyard parts.
Hi, Marco, my name is Tito, and i live here in Taiwan as well, where are those PC scrapyards? can you be so kind to show me around or sending me the locations for those places? It will be awesome to drive around and see what we can get. Thanks in advance!
I just built 3xi5-4590 PCs from old spare parts. I bought 3xIonz KZ 32V cases on Amazon for about £24 each. Little more than small cases to store spare storage, SSDs, CPUs and DDR3 memory. Fine for basic PCs. Available to spin up for odd projects and use offline cold backup storage.
That motherboard is a very popular bootleg 1155. Jumpers below the CPU socket allow for switching between NVME or SSD, since NVME wasn't a thing during the 1155 launch. I use Windows 10 and Linux Mint 21.1 on muh ghetto rig with that 1155.
I love this kind of videos, kudos to you Bryan for making this statement: You don't need the latest and greatest hardware in order to have fun playing games in 2024. Graphics are nice and all, but the gameplay is what makes a game a win or a fail. In fact, what I advise everyone to do is never ever throw away a working pc no matter how old it is. Let's say you have your grandma's old P4 lying around gathering dust. Just fill her up with some 16-bit emulators, get two cheap usb gamepads and give it away to some kid. Make the younger generations appreciate that wonderful pixel art of the 90s and save those old pcs from ending up in a landfill and becoming e-waste! ;)
Love the videos man! I would love to see how you keep your inventory and organize all your stuff!
Gameplay is where it's at. I recently bought a mini pc (i5-7500t) for super-cheap, and set it up with retrobat. In addition to the usual emulation stuff, I added a bunch of indie PC games too. Despite having a much more modern PC, For a month now, I've been playing the mini PC way more.
I own a 3000 Euros PC that's my workstation but I game less on it than on my SFF Lenovo I5 7500 with an RX 550 low profile.
Indiegaming is flourishing right now!
that thing that is holding this PC back is that graphics card but even so there are hundreds of very good games out there that it can handle. Steam is a treasure trove of older titles and indie titles that can provides thousands of hours of fun on a system like this.
Love the scrap build and the arranged Megaman themes!!!
13:40 this is so true. currently some of my favorite games are project zomboid, lethal company v50, battlebit, content warning and other games that barely utilize my 2060. if a game is good then its good it doesnt matter what it looks like
Man, I miss the 8800gt
Mine still works! Cleaned and repasted it last year and it lives. One of the best Nvidia cards of all time, in my opinion.
with that scratched side panel, if you get one of those polishing kits you can attach to a powerdrill, you can buff out all those scratches
Regarding the high end gear vs a PC tailored to the needs of the gamer:
I build two PCs in early 2019. One was an all new parts $720ish PC with a Ryzen 7 2700, RX 580 8GB, 16GB RAM, etc (obviously not a super computer, but it was a good 1080p gaming PC back then.) The other had some used parts, and cost about $180. It had a Ryzen 1600, 8GB (which was to be upgraded), and as a placeholder I slapped in a GTX 670 that I had gotten for almost nothing.
Guess which PC actually fit our needs? Surprisingly, I was living happily on a GTX 670, even thought we were in the RTX2000 series era.
TBH the 2700X system is still good at 1080p. Should run 40+ fps on almost anything.
More of this is needed. I built a £200 for someone so they could play Forza Horizon 4 which it did pretty well. However they then decided it should play Apex Legends but the 4 core CPU simply could not handle it. So I upgraded him to a RYZEN 5 system but then his wife said it was too much money. He ended up with nothing.
People need to trim their expectations to their budget. They can upgrade later.
Great to see another “scrapyard” build. Mine is still in the works. i7 2nd gen, single 4gb stick, boring old case and psu, gtx 730 aliexpress which I cant get to work right or an ati 1gb from 2008.
Thanks for the inspiration to get the project completed. All free parts.
Gotta love those "dead" dono boards.
Great video.
Is this a finally a PC that costs less than my lunch!?
What do you eat for lunch? I mean it doesn't get much cheaper than baked beans :p
@@techyescity Grapefruit and Green Tea. Baked beans is for dinner.
It's nice to see this hardware being used...AND it basically being free/ $0...
However, due to driver support and game compatibility, I think bumping up to at least a GTX 960/970/1050ti/1060/1650 or RX470/480/570/580 would cost VERY little and elevate this system to playing nearly any game as long as it's minimal settings.
While I agree about building a system to play specific games, It would be nice to have JUST enough power to explore MORE of what gaming has to offer. GTX 1060 / RX580 was for the longest time around the average powered gaming PC on Steam so there are TONS of games that will have that spec of hardware in mind and by now will probably be on sale.
Shout out to the Mega Man music!
3:20 nice Amiga track.
I really like this approach.
YES! I love these videos.
I personally don't care much about the graphics in games, as the games that I have enjoyed the most have had pretty simple graphics.
"this one simple trick" can make the hybrid drive load games faster. We have a seagate 750GB Hybrid drive in my son's PC as his games drive, and the "trick" to get the load times faster is this - launch the game and wait for a few seconds while it is loading very slow. task manager to kill the game and then reload it and it is MUCH faster. It has to do with the small SSD in the hybrid drive storing the most recently accessed files which actually made this a good drive to have windows installed on way way back when SSDs were first coming out and they were significantly expensive.
I LOVED the Mega Man tunes. That franchise holds several god tier video game soundtracks.
that typo in description is the best " it doesn't need a youbeaut latest"
I am glad the gtx 570 gpu I sent u has came in use for this vid Bryan but do the think the Corsair h105 aio would work better than that an cooler
Thanks brother, yeah the GPU got put to use! great GPU for Dune Imperium!
@@techyescity I wonder if will run Fortnite or cs2 should try with it
If not for games, many PC enthusiasts could use such a "scavenged" PC to experiment and learn. It can be your backup storage, a NAS, a Proxmox VM host, whatever.
Heck, even a "youtube, twitch and light gaming while the main PC is down" PC is *invaluable*. Because it gives you the time to not rush work on your main PC. Wanna clean that up, change something, and a small part is missing? No need to bodge stuff, no need to throw it together halfassedly. Your shitty PC will do until that parcel arrives or the stores open again on monday.
Ooh, New game, Dune Imperium sounds interesting. I remember reading Dune in high school was in our reading and watching a lot of tv and movies. Runs on a potato, nice.
Thanks!
O!!
Almost as one, that i've assembled.
With the same type of the motherboard,BUT with the 256 GB NVME ,2X500 GB, GeForce 750TI,and the cpu is E3-1230v2.
And a 16 gb of ddr3
The RX 570 once again shows just what good value it has been. Long live the Fighters!
My R9 290 has just gone 2nd hand about 18 months use, originally had a new R9 280 which lasted 5 years.
Now using my 1st card which had little use HD 7770, runs gtav fine don't think it gets anywhere near as hot as the 2 previous cards.
Waiting patiently for the PC parts Hunt Vid.......Huuuuuury Uuuup wid it!!! ;)
That PSU + GTX 570 = 🔥 💥 🔥 💥
Looks like a fun game too!
back in the day i used to dream about getting an 8800 in my pc lol, those cards were beastly
I wish Steam would automagically show statistic on what percentage of games will run adequately on your hardware and each game in detail based on real world testing from players.
The physical board game costs almost similar to the actual value of PC
Dune imperium here I come
June Imperium
Running that PSU - you're a far braver man than me
that old stuff goes ok for me i have lots stuff like that 4th series are still good
Not too sure but maybe the single stick of ram is actually maxing out the board for ram capacity, hahaha! Give ddr3 2gx2, or 4gx2 a whirl.
Nice one
It’s been awhile since I saw the old GeForce 8800 as recommended spec. GTX 570 is much faster. Not bad for a free GPU. I got a 580 for 7 bucks last year which for the price is pretty good.
Good video ! So much value for $0
Tbh I quite like that Corsair case 💪🥳👍
Hey you should do a video on newer graphics cards on x58, like ARC etc...
Gaming nowadays is not nearly as compelling for me as it was a decade ago. Too many people who have no interest in games making decisions that end up in games. Microtransactions are another pain as well.
Good work. Now ship this to me.
This man is a chef, made a tasty potato recipe
Bryan, have you tried Control?
Just played hours with scavenger PC i5-2500, gtx770
1080p 50fps
1080p rendering 768p 70fps (looks good!)
Very nice and long single play story
Whilst power hungry, the gtx 570 was rather powerful in its day. Still would be good for a Roblox / Minecraft pc.
Nice 👍
try it with 1030 for lower power draw ? ^^ where are all the old T processors with lower tdp?
Did anyone catch the music being played during the assembly? I remember my son playing that game many years ago. Although the game name escapes me now. Metroid?
Megaman 3, a guy called Neon X remixed it and it he did an amazing job I think.
I am a noob in gaming to old for it. i play some games. but on this moment it appears that gameplay of the games are more difficult than years ago lika 10 years.
I much prefer solid game play over ultra detailed graphics.
OBS would have worked just fine Brian.
LOL, *I thought the GPU was overkill, I thought it was an Radeon RX 570 !* 🤣
Never knew Nvidia made an 570 also ! 😜
i scavenged a ryzen 2600x and a 980ti from the attic... time to travel without moving high on spice...

Dune imperium is so much fun
I think you can run batocera on those specs.

GPU so old AMD released a card with the same name that is now legacy in itself.
2024 and LGA 1155 hasn't died.
Can you try installing and testing a NVME ssd in that board? I believe its those Chinese ones.
That's an impressive GPU...
Games were great back then because there was minimal DRM junk. You could install the game and play it. The games today, require a login to a game launcher and require internet access. Don't dare forget your password or you have to reset that. If the producers of the game drop the server, and you put money into DLCs and other skins, and the game is delisted, it is all over. It is a shame.
Is this game actually good? I recently fell in love with the dune universe
Yeah it's great if you like strategy.

*So ..... Do you think, this game will perform good, on a Ryzen 2200G ?* Because I still have an cheap A320 board, 2x 4Gb 2400Mhz ram (8Gb) , an crappy 320 Watt PSU, and that Ryzen APU !
why do i feel like bryan plays magic the gathering too now
makes you feel old when someone says 'whats an 8800?...' then someone else says 'i dont know but i think i saw one on antiques roadshow' lolz my geforce 2 was blown away by my geforce 3 then my radeon 9800 all in wonder blew thoae out of the water. the geforrce 7900gs was the most bitching card released for agp slots. when i got the 8800gtx with a gig of memory it was the 4090 or titan of its day/ 🤣
Try to play on monitor 1366x768 resolution- you will be 100 fps or more
Wouldn't it be better, to place TWO 4Gb sticks in it, instead of ONE 8Gb stick ?!
It would be if both slots on the motherboard worked. But if both worked he would have gone with the 16gb.
Dune fan for 40 plus years here..... Anyone who thought the latest Dune movie was good needs their head (and eyes) testing. Paul killed the baron and in the book it was Alia who killed him, Paul was supposed to lose his son by Chani when the Harkonnens raided the bases in the South, and Alia allowed herself to be captured, but that never happened in the movie either. If you're gonna make a movie based on one of the greatest books ever written then keep it true to the books, don't just make it up as you go along. There are also a ton of plot holes, the film is very very loosely based on the book and if you've never read the books you should go do it now and then watch the movies again.
Good PC build BTW, especially for the price :-)
Yeah I never read the book,s played the original RTS game on I think it was megadrive back in the day? Really exciting universe, I mean the movies were enjoyable for me. Thought the cinematics were good and the main character was played quite well. Will have to delve into the books when I get a chance.
new games this year could be better I wanna see if the new stalker is worth buying later I saw Dune Part 2 I dunno if it was good or not its just mostly dudes acting like other dudes and a few girls but they're a little weird
For the games, I know FFXIV has a new expansion dawntrail in June, benchmark was released (I want to play 16 on Steam) and new WoW expansion likely towards Q3/Q4 this year unless they miss release target. Dune Part 2 was okay, think they did a good job with Jessica and some aspects (not sure I was feeling the on and off forced chemistry between the leads), though the older TV series version might have been better overall from what I remember. Dune Part 2 the story was clear at least, villain(s) were developed/introduced more, and the special effects were nice. I think the Old SyFy TV series and spinoffs might have been better to watch, much longer in length though. I think the new Dune movies were better than the original certainly.
