I bought my C4 in 2012 with just 52,000 miles. It has Corsa exhaust, courtesy of the previous owner (plus new red leather seats, thanks,) and it sounded just fine. Last year I decided, after several gentle engine mods plus new head gaskets, that I wanted a better sound. While poking around the exhaust I found that only one of the two exhaust ports on each side was functional. One of the pipes was closed off and passed no exhaust. However, the baffle which obstructed the pipe was only held in place by four or five tabs along its edge. So being me, I knocked the baffle out with a hammer and screwdriver. It came out easily, and now sounds much fuller, but not too loud. I also lost the burble in the exhaust between first and second. Though I liked that, I can’t fix it now. It's true, I've been using DIY eliminators for a while after the Flowmaster mufflers fell off. The drone was way less than with the mufflers and overall it wasn't significantly louder. However, now that I have installed a Corsa exhaust, when it's cold there is still some drone at 1800 rpm, but once warmed up it's quieter at idle and low rpm compared to any other exhaust, but it roars like hell at WOT. It's glorious!
