The vivid character of Elske te Linder explains her choice of a vivid tempo and even when she detects traits of melancholy, she continues with her choosing a faster tempo than the choice of the average performer. One can argue with this decision, but not with her brilliant professional performance. Brava! Thanks NBS for uploading.

A great description, I think it's spot on. This is without question my favourite organ piece ever composed.

      That's quite a sexist comment. I'm offended.

I like that we can hear the tracker action when interviewing and recording from the keyboard. This must be inaudible on the performance recording done in the church.

"Just touch the right key at the right time and the instrument will play itself." Well Master, you forgot to say that we have to spend a lifetime to do it...

Wonderful choice of tempo for the prelude. This piece makes much more sense like that. At least to me.

Outstanding! Loved the artist impression of the music. Folks don't usually comprehend the effort it takes to play tracker organs - esp. when several manuals are coupled. Tiring!

I am sorry for my inadequate English. Not a single word about the dots arrive at bar 18. Staccato signs? I believe that Anthony Newman is closer to the truth. Those dots tells us not to play with inegalité. So why don't we find those spots from the very beginning? Because from the beginning we shall play with inegalité. No? Ok, but why not? I am not very impressed of Newmans performance, but unlike everybody else he make an attempt to understand the spots.

geir øyvind eskeland the dots at 18 aren’t so important but dot at 27 3rd 8th note beat are much more relevant, maybe to start the inequality again? Remembering this was sometimes used as a form of shorthand to avoid having to write out all the dots. The texture supports this and makes a legitimate case for inegalité. However this version is very convincing played “straight”, what a great musician! I’ve never seen someone write down the different pulse they use from year to year, interesting idea.

Jake Holmes, it is the middle of the night, but this is so interesting so I had to leave my bed and read and write. I don't want to be rude, but right here I disagree with you.....a little bit.. The first 8th in bar 17 is the end of a proper cadence. Bach continue with something new, a subject unknown to us so far. Therefore we need the information from the composer to not continue with inegalité.(bar 18) Or is it something I have overlooked? I believe you are right about 27 3rd 8th. Quote: "However this version is very convincing played "straight", what a great musician!" Here I support you 100%. She play the Preludium very well "straight!" But .....when I read "Netherlands Bach Society" I expect a kind of HIP-philosophical.

I like to add: It was not the dot 27 that made me curious for many years ago, but all the dots from bar 18: "Why all the dots? What's the point?" And then I started to whistle from the beginning in the style inegalité, and the music sounds so much better. Listen to those parallell thirds from bar 56 - wow, they sounds so much better not straight! So when I listen to Newman for the first time many years later, I enjoy it so much!

Agree entirely about those thirds. It’s almost a no-brainer.
