    True story:
It was our first family vacation, and we went to Egypt
Our guide there literally looted us (not even kidding)
He basically took advantage of our inexperience with travelling
We were charged hundreds and hundreds (literally Hundreds!!!!) Of dollars for the day trip to the Great Pyramid
The entry ticket wasn't that expensive at that time but we were charged a tonne of money per person. To make this worse, we only went inside for barely 5 minutes and came out because of the suffocation and darkness
Furthermore, we were also charged Alot for a 'secret treasure room' type s**t; it was basically an old room that Once upon a time had treasure in it that was stolen
Lastly, we were also charged Alot of money aswell for the camel rides
This tour guide emptied our pockets
But luckily, it was basically a life lesson. We ltr on, after travelling more and more, found out about this so yeah, no guides for us were definitely smarter now

As an American living in Cairo, my parents and I use taxis as our main formenu of transportation. They don't usually scam us but we have found that when you wear nicer clothing they are far more likely to scam you. They usually charge reasonable prices (except coming from the airport...) maybe it's apparent that we aren't just tourists. Most taxis have a meterrible so the best thing you can do is make sure that they turn it on and if they don't just felt out

Also, the one where a small boy comes up to you offering cheap soapstone scarabs and saying his father will beat him if he doesn't sell them.

My Egypt travel advice: don’t go to Egypt. You already saw it on NatGeo.

@@godshandftwfrthe country is notorious for scamming. I was more suspicious when I saw a blonde girl dressed non conservatively saying she had the best time and had no trouble whatsoever.

You already saw it on western media, so don’t go cause white people think it’s bad despite incredible scenery and culture. What a derp comment.

I’m Egyptian and I can assure you it’s not just tourists even us normal Egyptians from middle and rich classes are always scammed by locals because basically that’s what they do for a living, not defending them here but our government is literally a gang mob who’re basically invading the country under the name of “Military Basis”
I know tourists come for the pyramids and all the ancient places to visit but unfortunately all these are in Egypt’s local places so your bound to be scammed.
But if it helps, after a long hard tiring day try visiting our upper regions like the fifth Settlement which is a place full of shopping malls high class cafeterias and restaurants and has no local people, and if you want a vacation try visiting our five star resorts in places like Hurghada and sharm el sheikh you can search it.
If anyone needs any tip regarding anything in Egypt write me here and I will happily reply to anything and be as much help as possible

Egypt used to be a great place to go, but it’s so overrun by almost violently, aggressive, panhandlers, and street vendors and street hustlers that you can’t enjoy your trip anymore. And they do not take no for an answer and it starts sometimes from the moment you leave your hotel to the moment, you go back to it at night. We used to go every couple of years and we haven’t been in the last five because it just got so terrible.
