Today I'm working on a 16'' (40cm) round canvas. I am doing another of my 'Aura Swipes'

Pillow/Base:
British Paints Interior Low Sheen house paint in White, nothing added.
Colours:
Matisse Southern Ocean Blue
Lumiere Halo Blue Gold
Jo Sonja Aqua
Jo Sonja Iridescent Turquoise
Golden Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold
Golden Iridescent Gold Fine
Decoart Metallics in 24K Gold
My pigments and tube paints are mixed with untinted gloss house paint (water based) and Jo Sonja gloss varnish.

Atelier Rich Gold
Amsterdam Titanium White
They were both mixed with Aussie Floetrol.
I never measure ratios, I mix until it leaves a slight trace when drizzled from around an inch above the surface.

My lazy susan is glass and 20'' which was purchased from Coles supermarket, they can also be sourced from variety/dollar stores and on Amazon. The heavier the spinner, the easier it will spin, I'd also suggest you get the largest one you can so you can easily use it for larger substrates too.
My metal spatulas are artist pallet knives, they can be purchased from fluid-art.co/ or independent art stores.

I love how you practice your scoops before attempting them. The one on the far left is breathtaking!! My palette knife gets suctioned to the substrate. Is there a secret to doing these properly?? Perplexed. This is sooo beautiful Niki.

I bought my lazy susan from a supermarket, it's glass and is 20" (50cm). I now have a 24" wood round on top of it.

Q: Are your pillows always house paints or can you use anything else? Apologies if this is a silly question!!

Niki could you please tell me what you use for your pillow paint I live in Australia and a few I have tried are so thick .
Hi Daphne, ask my paints are listed in the video description box. I use British Paints low sheen straight from the can (stirred well first). You do need a thick pillow though to support your colours. I find Taubmans and Dulux too thin 🙂
What causes the black cell activator to feather as its drying? Does anyone know??
