That term is so overused, but in this case it's legit. Sad too. American Thighs is considered one of the influential albums of the 90's, but these ladies just don't get the coverage all the others did.
The most amazing one I listened to was WENZ 107.9 THE END out of Cleveland. I went off to tech school and came back to my town a few months later and they changed the format. TRAGIC.
Veruca Salt doing this slower and sinewy makes me realize how pervy the original song really is: " I always get it up from the touch of the younger kind?" sheesh, the 70's.....
This number is a public sexual assault. I put it in the same class as the Beatles "why don't we do it the road". Except its not a question, its the act
Wow, my day is made... I first heard this absolutely mind blowing cover on this fantastic Sydney Rock radio station Triple J in something like 1992 or maybe 1994. And I so desperately wanted to hear it again... I was going through some bands made of shooting stars who ultimately crashed, a short lived band called Gangwar made up by Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls, Heartbreakers) and Wayne Kramer from the MC5. They played this track and I thought, I'll look up Veruca Salts's again... Yeah !!! I can now rock in peace, mine, not my neighbours !!!
By far this has been one of my fav "rare tracks" from VS for many many years! Wish they had played it at the concerts I was at. Oh well, maybe this Summer. :D

My parents went trigger happy in the early days of Napster and burning CDs and they had a mix CD that had this cover on there and, for a good chunk of my childhood, I thought Veruca Salt was the original author of this song. Needless to say, I can't help but love this version and kinda prefer it over the original.
Sounds sexy to me :P I have a vast list of hundreds of good cover versions. And this is somewhere in the top 30s according to me, which means a lot. It's heavier, grittier, more sexy.
Two girls who rock out...whats wrong with that? These girls do it too! I have always felt that covers were done to pay homage to the original band or the song. Its a good version, Veruca Salt's version, and that's enough.
According to an article re-printed in a book called "Milk It!", they recorded this song to be included on a compilation of contemporary bands recording hits of the 70's. After they landed a record deal they reneged, and their management threatened to sue the label putting out the compilation, forcing them to remove this song. The people putting out the compilation were within their rights to include the song, but feared that defending themselves in a lawsuit may bankrupt them, so they complied.
apples & oranges. It all comes down to personal taste. I find this interpretation interesting, but my personal taste runs more to the upbeat original version. It has more energy. This one is definitely a sexy version though.
It's like they took this cisnormative anthem and made it a song about going to the Federal Way Fred Meyer, in the pouring rain, at 11 PM, in a dented used van, to get cigarettes. This is like the most Grunge cover of anything, ever.

One of the most underrated bands ever. VS are legends.

My dream is to start a 90's alternative rock radio station. And I would play this song every once in a while because Veruca Salt are the 90's!
if u ever start let us know
It is a mighty fine dream you got

@@creativeguy1138 sadly, most alt.rock stations in the USA were culled during the run-up to Y2K...
Great cover. I think my favorite part is the calm "woo."

That whole album is entirely an ode to hebiphilia. For instance, "Good Girls Don't (but I do)"

Spoiler: Sharona is now a real estate agent.
@@nicholassmith7984 According to that she was his girlfriend at the time he wrote the song.
damn they nailed it. If I pictured in my head what Veruca salt would sound like covering my sharona, this would be it.

"Absolutely mind blowing"? Are you sure? More like "just about competent"
Ever heard of the concept of "different taste"? No?
Agreed mind blowing!!! Good taste in music ....and my fav band. Some lack actual good taste in music around here apparently...
Sounds like something from a college radio station... it's cursed but in like a blessed way
Absolutely filthy! Genius cover! Cheer!
My first time hearing it in2020. Love it. Long time Veruca fan. How did I miss it
This is so perfect.
Love this cover. So gritty~
this song is so good, I’m sad I can’t listen to it on Apple Music
By far this has been one of my fav "rare tracks" from VS for many many years! Wish they had played it at the concerts I was at. Oh well, maybe this Summer. :D
I would die to hear this live
great version. it should be released on a rarities album.
Good Nina And Louise rock and roll sound !
So cool! Love it!
This track goes so hard🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻
Awesome! It's so 90s I need a cigarette!
Not on Spotify 🙁
Genial versión, infinitamente más pesada y con ambiente oscuro respecto al original de The Knack. Grande versión de las Veruca.....
What a remake should be/ never make it sound like the original/ they made it their own !!!###
this is cool. I likey. so drab
Tight My Shawarma, even after 12 years after this was uploaded. And 30 years after it was recorded.
Great cover, couldn’t find it on Spotify though

It works because they played it their way...
The best covers are totally new takes, not copies. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt is a famous prime example.
My my my my my Sharona....whoo .

Fullmooooooooooon🍒🤸
luv this band.

Veruca Salt and The Knack, kind of like mixing hydrazine and N2O4.

Felony Way, as in in the perpetually fetid armpit of South King County?

The original by the Knack was a part of my childhood. Nevertheless, this is my preferred version.
